Você começa a escolher entre 10 personagens diferentes em Guilty Gear, cada um com seu próprio conjunto de movimentos e ataques especiais. Os movimentos são realizados em estilo típico jogo de luta (combinações de botões) e as alças de jogo muito bem. Todos os personagens são muito bem equilibrado e justo, exceto alguns movimentos são um pouco demasiado excessiva. Alguns personagens podem executar ataques que realmente decolar maneira muito dano e isso é real o problema com o jogo.
