Tienes la oportunidad de elegir entre 10 personajes diferentes en Guilty Gear, cada uno con su propio conjunto de movimientos y ataques especiales. Los movimientos se llevan a cabo en el estilo típico juego de lucha (combinaciones de botones) y las asas de juego muy bien. Todos los personajes son más o menos equilibrado y justo, excepto algunos movimientos son un poco demasiado excesivo. Unos personajes pueden ejecutar ataques que realmente se quitan demasiado daño y esto es real el problema con el juego.
