The King of Fighters, ufficialmente abbreviato KOF, è una serie di giochi di combattimento da SNK Playmore, ex SNK. La serie è stata originariamente sviluppata per l'hardware di arcade Neo-Geo MVS di SNK, che serviva come la piattaforma principale per la serie fino al 2004, quando SNK ritirò le MVS in favore della tavola Arcade Atomiswave e sposterà la serie al X2 Taito Type con il rilascio di The king of Fighters XII. Porti dei giochi arcade e originale The King of Fighters giochi sono stati rilasciati per il Neo Geo CD, Neo Geo Pocket, Game Boy e Game Boy Advance, N-Gage, Sega Saturn e Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation e PlayStation 2, PC, e Xbox. Uno dei giochi più recenti della serie sono KOF: Maximum Impact serie.
