OGame is a classic browser-based space-themed strategy game, which was released in 2002 and became the template for many browser games of that era.

The Game is sharded over Universes (Servers), where the player slips into the role of an emperor, who has to balance resource exploitation, science, and fleet in order to create an empire and compete within multiple high scores in the game.

The game is played in a real-time fashion, where fleet, build and research order all take certain amounts of time-based on the research and building levels of the colonies they are performed in. Combat is triggered by one fleet attacking and another one defending an object and is simulated down to ship level, with the player being provided extensive reports on those events.

The game over the years has gained various meta-games and some emergent gameplay such as players who play as pure "miners" (resource creators) or "fleeters" (PVP combat oriented players).
