The German company Hartung was founded in 1969 by Klaus Hartung. Initially, the company specialized in the production of electronic systems for industry, such as industrial process control systems.

In the 1980s, Hartung began to diversify by developing consumer electronics products, including FM radios, cassette players, and satellite television receivers. Later, the company also produced video game consoles, including the Game Master in 1990.

Unfortunately, the company experienced financial difficulties and was ultimately liquidated in 1993. Although the company had a premature end, the Game Master remains a collectible item appreciated by vintage video game enthusiasts and one of the few serious attempts by a competitor to Nintendo's Game Boy.
