(My other guide is for "The Sims") If you see and errors please contact me (see Contact section later on) and I will fix them. If you know anything about Quake III that is not in already then please E-mail it to me and I will put it in. Cheers. I hope you find this guide helpful. Number 3 however is now deathmatch based gameplay you don't have to go through levels you fight computer controlled characters in an arena. 007- My Review -------------- Graphics- 7/10- The graphics are not the best in the world and in some place they are a bit crap but saying that they are not the worst graphics that you will ever see there just not the best though. Gameplay- 9/10- The gameplay is very good, at first you might not like it but stick with it and it soon becomes fun. The levels are challenging if you have it on one of the harder levels and even if you finish the game bring friends home get a multitap and have never ending multiplayer fun. One bad point is that the game takes forever to load and it is noisy as well (or it could just be my PS2). Sounds- 6/10- The FX are just what you would expect the constant firing guns but when the music kicks in it makes you feel like something is going to happen. Lifespan- 8/10- The game will last you along time with the campaign missions to complete and then the fun in the "Arena" mode but it will get boring eventually just doing the same thing over and over again. Originality- 7/10- There are some new things here but Unreal Tournament did it all first. Overall- 8/10- Is fun and has a lot to offer but it won't keep you going forever. But it is still a good game! Rent or Buy?- Buy You won't be able to see all that the game has to offer by renting it. 008- Controls -------------- 008.1- Game controls - - - - - - - - - - - Shoot/respawn X Next weapon O Use item Square Jump Triangle Look up/down Right analog stick (to look up= down to look down= up) Centre View Press right analog stick Move D-pad/left right analog stick View scores Select Crouch L2 Zoom R2 Strafe left L1 Strafe right R1 Menu controls - - - - - - - Select/ go to next screen X Delete O Return to previous screen Triangle Edit/default/view Square Cycle through choices left/right on the D-pad Highlight menu items Up/down on D-pad 009- Cheats ------------ Level skip While playing a game, hold L1 + R1 + R2 + Select and press X, Circle, Square, Triangle, X, Circle, Square, Triangle. Some are good, others are not so good. Here I will list all 12 of them and what I think about them. Enjoy. 1. Gauntlet- 0/10 This is the worst weapon that you can get; it is the only weapon that doesn’t need ammo but still it is crap. You have to get right next to your opponents to use it and even then they have to be still which doesn’t happen very often. This is one of the two weapons that you always start off with. (The other is the machine gun.) If you do manage to kill someone with it though you get the award "Gauntlet" (an imaginative name). 2. Machine gun- 5/10 This is the other gun that you start off with and this one is much better it is fast and has alright power but you only start off with 50 ammo for it and it won't take long for you to use all that up. The weapons accuracy is not brilliant either due to the fact that it shakes all over the place when being used. Only use this until you find a better one. 3. Chaingun- 8/10 This is my third favourite weapon and the only reason that it is not number one is because the rate that it chews through you ammo. When you do have ammo though this is a kick ass gun it will chop an opponent into nothing but blood! Just aim and fire....... 4. Shotgun- 6/10 At close range the shotgun beats almost everything but when at distance it is no use to anybody. It has a slow loading time but at close quarters it is so powerful that this won't matter because you will usually kill in one shot at very close range. 5. Nailgun- 9/10 This is the most powerful close combat weapon, it beats the shotgun easily. It is very powerful and does not use ammo up that quickly but it is not the easiest gun to find. This is my second fave gun. have a go with it and you will soon see why! 6. Plasma gun- 5/10 This is the most over-rated weapon in the arena it uses up your precious ammo Far to fast for the damage it does also you have to be dead accurate when firing it or it won't do any damage at all. Saying that however sometimes it can be a useful addition to your armoury. 7. Grenade launcher- 3/10 Unless you are a perfect shot steer clear off this because if you miss your target then it has the tendency to fly back and kill or at least do an excessive amount of damage to you. This is a long range weapon that can't fire very far so it can get very dangerous. It does have one use though, this is to bounce one round a corner to check if anyone is there. 8. Proximity mine launcher- 7/10 These can be fun, throw one down and wait..... all of a sudden BANG! some fool has just walked into it and died. Just remember that other people can do the same thing. 9. Rocket launcher- 9/10 These are fast powerful and accurate, what more do you want from a weapon? use these for long range firing only or the walls will soon have a nice new colour. When these are around make sure you watch all around you or you just might get one to the back of the head...Ouch! 10. Lightning gun- 4/10 This scores a 10 for looks but only a 4 for everything' else, It is hard to use and when you do get it on target all they do is move and it is as hard as hell to get it back on target. Also it chews through ammo so fast that you need millions of ammo to kill anyone with it. Unless you have to use it keep clear. 11. Railgun- 10/10 The best gun out there if this is around use this. At first it takes a while to get used to using it but when you do you can use it at long or short range and it is nearly always an instant kill. Hard to aim with at first but so quick that it will hit the target if you aim right. 12. BFG-10K- 5/10 Not as good as the Quake 2 version it is just a hyped up plasma gun. I don't like it that much but if you do see it take it and use it, it is still very good just not what you would expect from supposedly the best gun in the game. (I don't know what it stand for in this but in Quake 2 it was the Big ****ing gun but sometimes the big freaking' gun.) 011- Armour ---------- Armour: This is the normal size of armour it is a yellow vest that ads 50 to your current total. These are the most common armour pick ups and can be found all over the place. Heavy armour: This will provide 100 armour extra armour points for your character. They are red but are not as common as normal armour. Armour shards: These will improve your armour by 5 these are usually found in groups next to walls. These can take you above your characters current maximum. 012- Health ----------- Gold: This increases health by 50 points. Yellow: This increases health by 25 points. Green: This increases health by 5 points. These will take your health above your current maximum. 013- Power-ups -------------- Battle suit: These cancel out any damage from water, slime and lava. They also get rid of splash damage from weapons. (rebounds etc.) Double damage: Your weapon is twice as powerful for a sort time. Quad damage: Makes your weapon 4 times more powerful. Haste: This increases your speed for a short time. (useful for quick attacks.) Also improves firing rate. Double haste: Everything is twice as fast as "haste." Running and fire rate. Invisibility: Makes you invisible for a short time but when you fire you can see the weapon flash. Megahealth: This increases health by 100 points. Regeneration: If you find this you health will increase until you hit maximum but starts again when you get damaged. 014- Carried items ------------------ Medkit: Restores full health to user when triggered. Personal teleporter: Transports you to a random point in the arena. Invulnerability: Makes you immune to everything. Kamikaze: Kills everything even you in the arena. These are the hardest things in the game to find. 015- Game types ---------------- 1. Deathmatch The first person to reach a set number of frags (kills) in the time limit. 2. Kills VS Time You have to kill a set number of opponents in the time limit which is usually shorter then in deathmatch. 3. Possession The first person to hold the flag for the set time is the winner. There is only one flag and everyone tries to kill the person that has the flag. 4. One Flag Capture the Flag Get the white flag to the red base to score you need to get up to a set number. 5. Elimination You have a set number of lives when you kill your opponent for the last time (when all there lives have gone) they will be replaced by a better one. 6. Skirmish Same as elimination but there is a group of opponents in at a time and once they have been killed no one else comes in. You have to kill all of then to win. 016- Awards ----------- 1. Frags This is awarded every time you reach 100 frags. 2. Impressive You get this award every time you kill two consecutive people with a railgun. 3. Gauntlet Awarded every time you kill someone with a Gauntlet. 4. Excellent Get two frags in two seconds to get this. 5. Accuracy Your accuracy has to be above 50% to get this. 6. Perfect You get this if you win without getting killed yourself. 017- Characters ---------------- 1. Sarge (human) Strengths: max health Weaknesses: speed Favourite Weapon: Rocket Launcher 2. Anarki (cybronic human) Strengths: max health, speed Weaknesses: Attack power Favourite Weapon: Shotgun 3. Doom (human) Strengths: max armour Weaknesses: speed Favourite Weapon: Railgun 4. Daemia (human) Strengths: max health Weaknesses: max armour Favourite Weapon: Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher 5. Klesk (alien chitinid) Main Strength: attack power Main Weakness: max health Favourite Weapon: Plasma Gun, Railgun 018- Walkthrough ---------------- +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |If any one has a different/better/easier way to complete any of the| |missions then please let me know. See the contact section | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ Tier 1 ------ Rank: Slave Level : 1 Name: Arena Gate Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 5 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 1 To win: Be the first to frag 5 times To win this I just got the rocket launcher from the canter and the armour from inside the big mouth and fire rockets whenever you see him. Also make sure that you keep your rocket and armour toped up. Level: 2 Name: Place of Many Deaths Game Type: Possession Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 3 Yo win:: Be the first to hold the white flag Once you get the white flag just run around the arena, try not to stop to shoot anyone unless you really have to. Level: 3 Name: House of Pain Game Type: Deathmatch (Time Vs Kill) Frag Limit: 10 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 10 opponents in 10 minutes. The way that I found best is to get the shogun and the armour (both where the big open area is) and shoot as soon as you see anybody. Keep your ammo topped up though. Level: 4 Name: Power Station 0218 Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 10 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 1 To win: Be the first to frag 10 times. This is a bit harder, the best way to beat this is to use the rocket launcher try and get the quad damage and follow him wherever he goes and shoot him. Level: 5 Name: Hero's Odyssey Game Type: Elimination (Skirmish) Frag Limit:0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 3 To win: Kill each opponent to get though to the next arena. Each opponent has 3 lives but you have 10 so just be careful but you don't have to be too careful. I would use the shotgun or the rocket launcher for this level. You have now just completed the first of the five tiers. This is the easiest now for the harder stuff. Tier: 2 -------- Rank: Freeman Level: 1 Name: Arena of Death Game Type: Deathmatch (Kills Vs Time) Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 10 minutes. I would get in the centre of the arena and wait for them and use the chain gun. Level: 2 Name: Hell's Gate Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 20 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 20 opponents in 10 minutes. The way that I completed this level was to use the railgun, wait for them to come to you and stay in the corner on the top level of the big open area. Level: 3 Name: Temple of Retribution Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 4 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 10 minutes. I found this well easy. Get the rocket launcher and stand at the top of the stairs and just shoot any one you see. Don't worry about ammo because where you stand if where the rocket launcher respauns. Level: 4 Name: Brimstone Abbey Game Type: Capture the Flag (One Flag) Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 3 To win: Capture the white flag and return it to your base five times. From your base drop down from you ledge and turn right. Look forward you should see water, go straight though this, keep going through the door and go left. (the only way you can go) Keep on forward (there is a mega health on your right) and turn left though the door. If you have gone the right way you will be in a big open room with a thing that blasts you in the air on your left, use this and the flag will be where you fly to. Go back to your base and drop it off. Do this five times. Level: 5 Name: The Forgotten Place Game Type: Elimination Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 6 To win: Clear all the opponents in the arena, each of then has 3 lives, You have ten. This is a level where you have to be careful not to get killed too much or you will lose. When playing try and keep towards the walls so not to get shoot to much. Tier: 3 ------- Rank: Warrior Level: 1 Name: Hero's Keep Game Type: Possession Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 4 To win: Be the first to hold the white flag for one and a-half minutes. What I did was to get the flag and a good close range weapon (plasma gun) and take the flag and hide behind one of the statues in one of the rooms. Just shoot anyone that comes near. Level: 2 Name: Fatal Instinct Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 10 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 10 opponents in 15 minutes. Get the rocket launcher from the middle and kill. The quad damage may help to. Level: 3 Name: Camping Grounds Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 4 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 15 minutes. The good old rocket launcher will do this. I have found no place that is good to stay in just walk around. Level: 4 Name: Demon Keep Game Type: Capture the Flag (One Flag) Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 3 To win: Capture the white flag and return it to your base five times. From the big centre room go through the door inside and turn left, go forward and just before the take off thing with an arrow on it turn left. Go forward get the yellow body armour and drop down, turn around go forward and follow the left turn go forward and turn left again. Go forward and avoid the moving crosses or it is death, keep going forward into a small room where if you turn around you will see a take off thing use it to go up. Go forward and drop off the edge, when you do this you should be in a big room. In this room go to the place that is orange and is lower then all the rest. Drop down here and follow the corridor round until you arrives in the big outside room with the lava. Go straight on till you get to the teleporter that takes you back to where you very first started Look ahead of you and jump on the take off thing onto the island in the middle go straight on onto the other take off thing then to the one in the air and score. Repeat this five times. Level: 5 Name: Vertical Vengeance Game Type: Elimination Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 5 To win: Clear all the opponents in the arena, each of then has 2 lives, You have ten. Tier 4 ------- Rank: Warlord Level: 1 Name: The Nameless Place Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 20 Opponents: 5 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 20 minutes. Get the plasma gun get in the blue health thing and stay there and kill anyone that comes near. Level: 2 Name: The Proving Grounds Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 25 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 25 opponents in 10 minutes. This is the first time you get to use the nail gun, use it. Hang around the big open area and wait. Level: 3 Name: The House of Decay Game Type: Deathmatch (Time Vs Kill) Frag Limit: 25 Time Limit: 10 Opponents: 3 To win: Be the first to frag 25 opponents in 10 minutes. Plasma gun and just stay where they respaun and shoot. Level: 4 Name: Lost World Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 20 Opponents: 4 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 20 minutes. Have not found a good way to beat this just do anything. Level: 5 Name: Arenas of Pain Game Type: Elimination Skirmish Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 4 To win: Kill each opponent to get though to the next arena. The first two battles are easy but the last one could prove to be hard. To beat it stay in a corner use r1 and l1 to strafe and just keep firing. The best weapons to use are fast ones. e.g. Chaingun, Machinegun, plasma gun etc. Tier 5 ------ Rank: Lord of Battle Level: 1 Name: The Longest Yard Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 15 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 3 To win: Be the first to frag 15 opponents in 15 minutes Use the chain gun for this and stay above the action. Level: 2 Name: Vortex Portal Game Type: Capture the Flag (One Flag) Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 5 To win: Capture the white flag and return it to your base ten times. From Drop off the platform go forward and turn left Go forward again and use the arrow that is pointing into the blue thing to get to blue base. When you are in blue base turn left then right and on the another thing that fires you into the air. When you land turn right 180 degrees so you are facing a island in the air use the thing to get up and nab the white flag. Drop down turn right and go up the ramp that points to the red thing in the sky. When you land turn right then left up the ramp turn around 180 degrees and jump onto the island which is your base and score. Do this ten times. Level: 3 Name: Space Chamber Game Type: Possession Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 4 To win: Be the first to hold the white flag for one two minutes. Get the flag get the haste and run around the top where you can keep going round and taking off with the rocket launcher in the air. Only shoot if you have to. Level: 4 Name: Evil Playground Game Type: Deathmatch Frag Limit: 10 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 1 To win: Be the first to frag 10 opponents in 15 minutes Welcome to the worst ****ing level on the game, it is crap. Anyway use the plasma gun and watch your back is all I can say for this! Level: 5 Name: Final Resting Place Game Type: Elimination Frag Limit: 0 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 1 To win: Clear all the opponents in the arena, each of then has 2 lives, You have ten. The Vadrigar ------------ This is HARD. Now get down to the centre and stock up on health, ammo and armour. Aim with R2 and shoot the red dot at the end of each blue plasma jet coming from the wall. When you have got him down hide in one of the corridors and use the BFG to shoot him when he comes near. If he doesn’t come near go out carefully and lure him closer. Once he is at the entrance to your hiding place strafe (L1+R1) out and in again to shoot him. If you are very lucky (like me) them just keep shooting him and he will die there. More likely is that you will get his health down to about 100 and he will go back up to the safety of his platform. Once he is up there I would use the railgun hide in one of the two chambers at the same level as his hide out and strafe and shoot. It is best to kill him quickly once he goes up there because he will regain his health to 400 again if you don't. Level: 6 Name: The Keeper Game Type: Deathmatch (Time Vs Kill) Frag Limit: 20 Time Limit: 15 Opponents: 2 To win: Be the first to frag 20 opponents in 15 minutes. This is a bonus level it will appear after all the credits have been shown. Get into the big room inside, use the shotgun or rocket launcher and shoot everybody. It isn't very hard for a last level in a game but there you go! After completing this level you get two bonus characters, they are: The Reaper and the Mistress 019 - FAQ Q. Should I buy Quake III A.
