Introduction SC3INTRO / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / Soul Calibur III is a fighting game from Namco that takes you back to the 16th century. This game series started off as Soul Edge in the arcades. The story revolves around two swords, one that is good and one that is evil. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 1a. Version History SC3INVER / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / This is the version history. This is where I list everything I have updated on the guide (along with whatever I feel like). Version 2.1 (8/16/06): Finished up two more Tales of Souls paths. I will try to finish up as many as I can (or as many as I am interested in). I will be doing them in the order of the characters that I like to play as (which means to those Yun-seong fans, the all of two of you, you will have to wait for that path to go up). I also fixed up the mistake in Siegfried's Path to Night Terror. I've known about it for a while, I just forgot about fixing it. As for the Chronicles of the Sword section, I need to get my interest up in that. Every time I try to do it, it just seems so boring. I never did like Chronicles of the Sword very much. I think I will be working on this guide until Disgaea 2 comes out. Version 2.0 (8/03/06): I made a commitment to finish up the other characters movesets and succeeded. Now, what I will is work on fixing up the Chronicles of the Sword section and then maybe add one or two more Tales of Souls paths before I forget about this game for another five months because of new games coming out. I count four games I know I am buying and at least two games I'm going to write FAQs for. Version 1.6 (8/02/06): Five month break. I haven't touched the game since then. I decided to update this guide with my new formatting style that I have developed through the making of other guides (not really a new formatting style, just a cleaner looking chapter header and more spaces in between sections). I have also decided I wanted to finish up the other character move lists before I lay the game down again for another five months, so I completed three of them tonight. I'll work on the others either this weekend or next weekend. The game is in my PS2 so pretty much, I won't forget about it. It's tedious work though. I was starting to wonder why I don't remember anything about making the guide. I mean, I know I made it, but I don't remember the process of making it. Now I realized why. I don't want to remember all the tedious work that went into this guide. ~_~ Seriously though, I do want to get through the characters ToS paths...one of these years... I do find it funny that I stated that Samurai Warriors 2 was coming out shortly and it's still not out yet in the US. Version 1.5 (3/18/06): I took a short break from this guide to...well...make another guide. Plus, I had a lot going on in my life during those two months that I wasn’t working on this guide. However, I am back to working on the guide. I just want to try to finish this thing. I finished the formatting changes and then I will finish the move lists for the created characters on the next update. However, I’m not so sure I will get the ToS paths done. I do want to get the mistakes I made in the CotS section fixed, but I’m not sure what they are anymore. I will need to dig through my e-mails to find them again. Oh, and I fixed a mistake in Siegfried’s Path to Night Terror. See, I do eventually fix the mistakes I am told to correct. ~_~ Version 1.4 (1/08/06): I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. I took the time off, so in case you were wondering, I do plan on finishing off this guide. It may not be as complete as I would like, but I will get done the three things I am currently working on. In other news, Samurai Warriors 2 is coming out shortly! Yes I know I’m late, but I’ve been focusing on Soul Calibur III. Still, it should be out in April or May! Odds are, that will be my next full guide (I might make one for Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends, but it might not be a full guide or it might not get complete). If you know anything about my tastes in games (or if you would like to know, just look at my contributor profile), I am a huge KOEI fanboy. This is the only time I will call myself a fanboy of anything, as most of the time, the term fanboy has a negative connotation and is associated with "irrational raving lunatic". However, I will say this: I love both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series. I also love the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series and started that series when RoTK3 came out. So yes, KOEI has been in my life for a while. Although I have been disappointed with the way the Dynasty Warriors series has gone (and in a way, disappointed with the RoTK series also, but I liked 9 a whole lot), from the looks of Samurai Warriors 2, it looks like that this may top the original. In guide related news, I honestly think God hates me. I found a new path in Tales of Souls mode. It has no reason to be there. Yet, it is there to make my life miserable. So now I had to redo every single Tales of Souls path that I had already created (GRR!!!). On the bright side, I finally figured out how to unlock some of the events I have been missing (using that path that has no point). Okay, other stuff to update. Added some spacing in the move lists so that everything is not bunched up together. Halfway done with the move list edit. Made some minor fixes. Added some more flowcharts and hidden character move lists. Also formatted some more move lists. When these three get done, the version number will be 2.0 (I believe those three right there are important enough to bump up the version). Yes, I really do grr when something upsets me. Version 1.3 (12/17/05): The reason why I haven’t updated lately was because I just recently got Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. It is really a beautiful and fun game. I’m only about...a quarter of the way through the game and I recommend it so far. Okay, guide updates. Renumbered everything (grr...). Shop lists are done. The move list clean up project has started. I was originally going to change the format completely and add graphics to almost resembling the actual move list in the game like I did with the shop lists, but that put too few moves on the page at once. The move lists aren’t really that bad, just too crammed together. I just spaced everything out and then things actually looked pretty decent. In between the monotony of the clean up project, I am also creating flowcharts for Tales of Souls and adding move lists for hidden/created characters. I have no clue when all of this is done, but when this is, I will move on to the Chronicles of the Sword section. I have received a whole lot of e-mails about my CotS section. Yes, I will fix those errors. I will make that part of this guide more in depth. I do apologize for any mistakes in that section, as I did that entire section from memory. However, if I do get a lot more e-mails on that section, I may work on that before I finish the other three projects (seems like people only read my guide for the CotS section anyways). Maybe I should only focus on one section? I swear I’m not ADD. Version 1.2 (12/09/05): I allowed another site for this guide to be on. It’s probably the only other site I will allow. That site is www.soulcalibur3.us, which is a really good website on SC3. It has a lot of good info on Soul Calibur past and present. If you’ve been around the SC3 board on GameFAQs, you should know KirbySSB and the great job he does on his website and at providing people with all the information about the Soul Calibur franchise. Okay, now onto the updates. Fixed Lizardman’s path to Night Terror. Added some slight formatting (yes chewie, I know my guide is still ugly, but you’ll get over it though). Made some minor formatting changes to the Move List (very minor, not really noticeable). I do plan on doing a major overhaul to the formatting of that section soon. Added some more secret character stage locations. Added one half of the shop lists. I wanted to add all three before my next update, but I wasn’t sure when the next time I would be online to update my guide, these shop lists are taking a lot longer than I expected and they are more annoying than they should be. All in all though, I really like how the shop lists are starting to come out. They look 20 times better formatting wise than the rest of my guide. Hopefully the move lists will look just as good once I’m through with their formatting. Version 1.1 (12/06/05): Added Yoshimitsu’s profile, move list, and weapons (so I was an idiot and forgot them). Also made some minor formatting changes and fixed some wrong information. I updated some of the Soul Arena times. I managed to get 3 of them to gold now, only missing Gold on Wisp Shoot, Survival, Hard Workers, and Beloved, all on Hard. I know the goal for Wisp Shoot and Survival on Hard, I just can’t get them yet. ~_~ I was going to add some ASCII art, but I decided it was extremely tacky. Besides, I like my ASCII-less FAQs. Version 1.0 (12/03/05): Soul Calibur III guide is completed. Some minor stuff could still be added (and will be added in later updates), but as far as the main information goes, everything is here. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 1b. Coming Soon SC3INCOM / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / I should call this section "Things I Plan on Doing But You All Know I Won't". Even though this guide is complete, there is so much more that I could add extra, such as more information in the Chronicles of the Sword section and formatting of the move lists. Here is a list of everything I plan on doing soon. A + indicates that the job is currently in progress or will be done the next update. A – indicates that the job will be done in the future. + Tales of Souls flowcharts (8/24 done) + Created character move lists (17/17 done) - More in depth information for Chronicles of the Sword / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 2. Story of Soul Calibur III SC3STORY / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / In Soul Calibur III, everyone is looking for the same sword for different reasons. Some want to destroy the evil and some want to use the evil sword. After Siegfried broke free of the grasp of Soul Edge, he plunged the good sword, Soul Calibur, deep into the eye of Soul Edge. After this, both swords were lost again. Now, everyone is still looking for the sword. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 3. How to Play the Game SC3HOWTO / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / Soul Calibur III has very many game mechanics involved in the game. Hopefully, I will be able to review all the mechanics in the game. First, I will describe the terminology that will be used in this guide. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 3a. Move Notation SC3HTMOV / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / Moves in this guide will be noted will use the number system that has become popular on the forums. That system is as follows: 789 456 123 Each number represents a direction. For example, when you see the number 6, that indicates forward. When you see the number 1, that represents the diagonal direction down back. 5 is neutral The numbers are the same as on a keyboard keypad. Also, each type of attack has its own designation in the video game. They are as follows: A = Horizontal attack B = Vertical attack K = Kick attack G = Guard There are certain special input types. Here is an explanation on all the special inputs: + = Press buttons at the same time [ ] = Hold _ = Or (example: 88_22 means either 8 way run up or down) Lowercase letter followed by an uppercase letter = Slide Input ~ = Into (normally enters into a stance) J = Jump JD = Jump Delay (means jump then wait until you almost land before inputting) WC = While Crouching WR = While Rising W8 = While doing an 8 way run TA = Turning Around FA = Facing Away JI = Just Input (pressing the button at the correct time to perform the move) ... = Infinite move, keep pressing the button or combinations of buttons to keep the move going Also, a move may be listed more than once, but the second listing has a word in parentheses. This word in parentheses is the modifier for the move that makes it special. Here is a list of the common move modifiers: (Hold): This move can change if you hold the button instead of tapping it. Normally, holding a move will increase the damage or add a special effect to the move, like Guard Break or Unblockable. (Max): For some hold moves, when you hold the button for the maximum amount of time, the move becomes more powerful and normally has a special attack effect. (Counter): This move can change if you use it to counter an opponent’s attack. If you input this move right as your opponent is attacking, the move can become more powerful. (Cancel): This move can be cancelled. Canceling a move can be a good way to fake out your opponent. (Just): If you hit the button at exactly the right time, the move becomes more powerful and most of the time, additional attacks are performed. Each move can have a certain special abilities given to them. When they are noted, they will be abbreviated as follows: T = Throw U = Unblockable AT = Attack Throw SP = Special Movement GB = Guard Break GI = Guard Impact ST = Stance switch D = Can be Delayed Also, each move and combo will be described as where they hit. There are the abbreviations for those: H = High M = Mid L = Low SM = Special Mid SL = Special Low / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 3b. Game Mechanics SC3HTMEC / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / Here are some of the basic game mechanics. I am no expert in Soul Calibur III, so I really don’t have that many expert tips to give. However, here are some basics of the game that could help. Soul Calibur III follows a very simplistic rock-paper-scissors theme in dealing with attacks. Once you get the hang of this system, you will be able to better understand more of the strategies of Soul Calibur III. This system is as follows: Horizontal Slashes beat 8 Way Run Vertical Slashes beat Horizontal Slashes 8 Way Run beat Vertical Slashes The explanation is quite simple. Horizontal slashes are very wide in motion and can catch your opponent as they attempt to side step an attack. Vertical slashes are more powerful and normally faster than horizontal slashes, so they override them. The 8 Way Run system can side step most vertical slashes attempted. Granted, there are some exceptions to the rules as always, but this is the basic concept. Since the game implements the 8 Way Run system, there are certain things you have to do in order to crouch or jump. To jump, you must press 2G. Jumping forward would be 3G and jumping backwards would be 1G. To crouch, you must press 2G. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 4. Regular Characters and Move Lists SC3REGML / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / This section will go into each character in detail, as well as list their moves in the game. The characters are in alphabetical order. Their profiles are just summaries of their in game profiles. Since there are many other FAQs on GameFAQs that have their in game profiles, I will just summarize. Also, there’s a list of weapons and their effects. I will note the weapon that I prefer with a * before the name of the weapon. This is my personal preference and the weapon I use when I’m just playing the game casually. The move lists will be shown as follows: Example: Annihilation (Hold): [A] | H AT The first part before the colon is the name. The part after the colon is how to perform the move. The part after the line is where the attack hits and then any special attributes to the move. Remember, all the notations were discussed in section 3. / ----------------------/------------------------------------------------------ Soul Calibur III / FAQ/Move List / 4a. Astaroth SC3RGAST / ------------------/---------------------------------------------------------- / Profile: Astaroth was a golem created by an evil cult. The leader of that cult, grand priest Kunpaetku, realized that the golem could not be controlled. Astaroth returned to the cult and killed everyone in the cult, except for the grand priest. The grand priest would escape, but would also let Astaroth know that he was modeled after a human. Astaroth would investigate this claim and see that he was modeled after a “white giant”. Astaroth went search for this “white giant”, in order to offer his soul to Soul Edge.
