Intro ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To find out how I discovered this game, check the FAQ section. At the time, because it was only my fourth or fifth RPG, and playing Crystalis, Gargoyle's Quest II, and Zelda II when you are six or seven years old does not really count as an experience like finishing Zelda IV was, I thought the game was amazing. Today, people probably wrongfully scorn this game. I have never played Shadowgate, but if you want a game like that with some battles and other features to boot, try this game out. Those of you who have played it know it is good for a quick romp. I played it through quite a few times because I had few other RPGs at the time. So play this game and recognize it as on of the last old skool RPGs. It may be one of the best in that category, and the genre lives on today in the Dragon Quest/Warrior series. By the way, after all the emails about the stupid nonexistent Woodcutter code, I finally reported it as fake on www.gamefaqs.com and it was removed, and I expect no more emails about it and feel some satisfaction from eradicating that gigantic blight. 2. Character Spell Lists ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Starred Spells are ones I used often, besides the attack spells of Mute and healing spells.) FAQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It seems that all of the questions I receive rotate around either the Fire Dragon, the Woodcutter Code, or the Demos Brothers. Q: Where can I find Sword of Hope II? I bought this game at Toys'(Backwards R)'Us when I was a kid, I think I was 12 at the time. Back then I got it for $30 because RPGs were not the dime-a- dozen games they are today. I would suggest looking in E-Bay or FuncoLand. If you cannot find it there, just go ahead and emulate it. I am not one of those people who is going to say "I paid for it so should you!" It would be better to play the game period, preferably by buying it. Q: Where is the Tritrium? From the Fire Dragon, head down and right a space. The location should be a place where you can only go down or left. There should be a wall in the upper right part of the screen and lava elsewhere. Look at the wall and then Open it up. The Tritrium will be inside. Give it to the Blacksmith and he will make Swords of Light, the best weapon in the game. Q: How do I get into Zakdos's room? First you must hit all three switches in the Demos Brothers' rooms. Then make sure the warp to the right of study room is activated (or it may be the other). Now go into the study, head in a southwestern direction, and eventually you will come to a bridge which will be lowered if you pressed all three switches. Head up from there to Zakdos. Q: What do I do with the Fish? That is currently unknown, and since no one will take it and you cannot eat it as far as I know, I believe the Fish may be a false product of the Fishing Pole. Q: Where is the room above the prison cell in Zakdos's Castle? This is located somewhere on the third floor. Somewhere you can push a button, gas will swirl around you, and you will fall through a vent into the prison on the first floor. You can escape the prison by pulling out the bars with the "Open" command. Q: In Zakdos's Castle, there is a prison cell with a vent way up high. How do I reach the vent? There is currently no way to do this, you can only fall through the vent to the prison below. Q: How do I get the octopus trap? You can view the octopus trap by looking around the home of the Fisherman on the beach of Bon. Currently, I do not know of a way to obtain this item, and it was just a theory of mine that it could be used to avert the octopus in the pot in the Undersea Cave, perhaps instead gaining a treasure or something. Q: Where are the Fish Fossil and Lizard Tail? The Lizard Tail is located on the first floor of the Nekojara Volcano on the right portion of the cave. The Fish Fossil is located in the very southeastern part of the second floor of the Nekojara Volcano on the right side. Both can be obtained by using the "Open" command on the wall of the volcano that you are viewing. Q: Where is the Tree of Trent? The Tree of Trent can be located by either taking a ride on the Turtle from the lake and going left once or teleporting to Rod's Woods and going south once and then west once. Here, look at the trees and you will identify a Tree of Trent. Next, look at the Tree of Trent. Now, hit it three times to receive three Fruits of Trent. This is the only place in the game as far as I know where you can obtain Fruits of Trent. Q: Where is the third Blue Stone? In this specific instance, the Blue Stone missed here was the one located in the twining of tree. Look at the tree if you are on the middle branch and you may find it. Other include inside piles of debris in the Ruins and in a bird's nest on a western branch of the tree. Q: Where are the second and third Demos Brothers? The second Demos brother can be found on the third floor. He is either just to the right of the staircase from the first floor or in the western area of that floor. The third Demos brother can be found by warping to the fourth floor from the large treasure box on the northwestern part of the first floor. Simply go right from where you end up to face off against him. Q: How do I find the bridge in Zakdos's Castle if I have already pressed the first and third buttons? Well first, you need to press the second button before the bridge comes down for you to travel across. That information can be found under the question for the second Demos Brother. Next, go to the top floor and trip the switch on the eastern side. Go left and/or down until you reach the Study. Next, head left and/or down until you reach the bridge. Now have fun clashing with the final bosses! Q: Is the code of hitting the Woodcutter with the Knife and getting all magic true? Alright, this is one of my most common questions. First off, I had no idea what people were talking about until someone told me that it was Sword of Hope I, not II. And I have never played Sword of Hope I, so I cannot confirm nor deny it, and it definitely does not exist on Sword of Hope II, so stop trying it if you are. Q: Where are the Blue Stones on Nuku Island? The Blue Stones and the Red Stones (do not take the Red Stones) are placed in random locations I believe. This means that they are in the same basic spots, but which stone you will receive varies. Search all the branches of the Tree and every nook and cranny of the Ruins. One can be found in a bird's nest on the west part of the tree, one encased in the tree's twining, and another in a heap of rock in a Ruin. Q: Where is the second Demos Brother? The second Demos Brother would be located to the west of the entrance to the third floor from the first floor. Do not forget to push the button behind him after you defeat him. The first is on the second floor and the third is to the east of the warping treasure box on the fourth floor. Q: Where is the Dragon Scale? After defeating the Fire Dragon, Bogi will be consumed, but manages to throw you two items, the Shard of Fire and the Dragon Scale. Take it to the Blacksmith on Farb Island and sell it to him, then head over to the shop next door for the new Dragon Armor and Dragon Shield, which each have the best defense ratings for their respective types of equipment. Q: Why does the Fire Dragon knock me back 3 spaces? The details will be a little sketchy because it sure has been a while, but anyway you should search the area around there for stuff like the Sword of Earth and Tritrium, and I believe the space you want is near the Tritrium. There will be a wall in front of you and a hole. Go into the hole, it should look like ash is around you, and then Look around. Then Hit around a few times and it will say you felt something. Look around again and you will find the Veil which protects you from the Fire Dragon's blast and allows you to fight him. Q: Why does the Fire Dragon knock me back 3 spaces even though I have the Cooling Cloak? Well ok, first off the Cooling Cloak is one of those un-equippable items that does something. In this case, it allows you to reach the lowest level of the Nekojara Volcano. The item you need is the Veil, which can be found east of the entrance to that floor, or about south-east from where the Tritrium was. The biggest clue will be you will see a wall with a hole on the floor, which is somewhat resembling the first floor of the Volcano. Anyway, next enter the Hole after Looking, then Look around, Hit a few times, and then Look again after it said that you touched/felt something. The Fire Dragon can no longer push you back 3 spaces, since the Veil will deflect it. 4. Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - 1. Castle - Ancient Temple - Leave the castle. Head in a generally southeast direction to find the Ancient Temple. Look and Hit along the way to find stuff. Buy a Copper Sword. Flee from battles until you meet Mute. - Enter the Ancient Temple. Head straight in and at the four-way intersection go right. Push the button on the statue and continue this straightforward area. - Raise the arms of the Venus Statue and enter the secret room. From here backtrack out after Looking at everything. - Leave the Ancient Temple. Head left to the dead bodies. - 2. After Ancient Temple - Castle - Follow the trail of dead bodies to the waterfall. They are in a northern direction. - Meet Mute's Dad and find the secret path behind the Waterfalls. You may have to Look more than once. - Attempt to take the Shard Of Earth and have Mute join you. Fight battles now so Theo and Mute will be locked together in EXP the entire game. However, first do the next step before level building. - Return to King Hennesy. Head south and then in a northwestern direction. Now, when you fight groups of enemies you may receive a Coin afterwards. Get two of these and you should have enough gold to buy the best equipment for Theo and Mute and then trash the surrounding enemies for level building. - 3. Desert - Enter Underground Temple Desert - Enter the Desert. Head southwest from the Castle and through the newly-opened gate. Once there, you can wander around, but do not go into the Prairie just yet. Find the Sandworm eventually in the northwest area. Shops are in the northeastern area. Look underneath stones to find Gem Stones which are worth a good deal at the time. - Defeat the Sandworm and meet Nina. Much to do here. - Have Nina join you and obtain the Sanddrop. Head to the southwestern part of the desert where there is a mound of sand. - Use the Sanddrop in the southwestern part of the Desert to enter the Underground Temple Desert. Now that you are in, note this is another straightforward dungeon. - 4. Underground Temple Desert - Follow the trail and knock down secret passages on the way. Sometimes the wall simply rains down crud. Fight your way through. Any wall that looks "newer" inside of a knocked down wall will always rain down debris when you Hit it. - Fight the two guardian Labirolas. After you fight the second one, you know you are close. Around the area after the second one is a secret room with a better weapon for Theo, the Crystal Spear, which is very helpful. - Knock down a secret passage and follow it to fight Jaghi, then obtain the Shard Of Earth. Try to get the weapon in another secret passage before fighting Jaghi. - Free Nina's father from Stone to receive the Water Jewel, but Nina will leave you. Backtrack back out of the dungeon while freeing the other two guys made into statues. Take the equipment off of Nina before you release her father so you can sell it later. - 5. Plains - Lake - Follow the trail beyond the Desert to the Plains. You must go in a northerly direction to get there. - Follow the trail to the Lake. It is rather obvious. - Use the Water Jewel on the pier to breathe and travel underwater. You get the Water Jewel from Nina's Father after you free him. - Dive downward until you reach the bottom and find the Pliers. You can use the Pliers to Open the shells and find Gem Stones. - 6. Underneath Lake - Wander around, then find and save the Turtle. He should be in the eastern area stuck inside a wall. - Find the secret passage and then get washed away. It should in the southeastern part of this area. - Pick up the Rock and place it into the hole the Turtle was in. You will have to go back eastward from where you got washed away to. The rock will be where you got washed to. - Visit the Water Pixie King and receive the Water Bell. He is in the very northeast after going north from the area where you were washed out of earlier. Now backtrack out of this area. - 7. Rod's Woods - Get a ride with the Turtle to Rod's Woods and enter it. He can take you back if you want as well. Head into the northwestern part of this area right away and retreat from all battles. Once you reach the area with poisoned trees look for the Creeper. - Defeat the Creeper and have Bogi join you. Bogi will be just under your level if you did this right. Now Rod's Woods is easier with three of you. Now go into the separate eastern area from the sign that says "Rod's Woods." - Visit Rod's Village and the Woodcutter. You can buy stuff here and initiate the trading sequences by acquiring some Honey in the southeastern area after knocking down a beehive. Visit the Woodcutter in the northern area. In the far northwest of Rod's Woods there is actually a passage to much later in the game. Ignore it. The bear in that area will give you a Fishing Pole if you give him Honey. - Travel through the once blocked passage. This is where the Creeper was once. The Woodcutter should have chopped down the offending tree. - 8. Castle Winder - Enter Castle Winder. Difficult. I failed twice before succeeding. - Knock down blocked off passages and find the Oil. The passages have rocks piled up in front of them. The Oil should be downstairs and then to the left. Grab the treasure chests in that area downstairs before leaving. - Use Oil on the rusted door and talk to the Servant inside. He will let you see King Winder. This door is near the entrance. You can sleep in his bed to recover HP. - Talk to King Winder. Now you know your purpose. Head back to the staircase. - Defeat the Ghost/Killer Swords and find the Sword Of Wind. Travel in the most direct pathway. At the four-way intersection in the basement, go left. Grab the Sword of Wind from the armor. Fight your way back to King Winder. - Talk to King Winder and receive the Silver Key. You can open the door beyond the Sword of Wind now. The Ghost/Killer Swords will be gone now. - Defeat Hug and obtain the Shard Of Wind. Your quest is about halfway over. Continue beyond this room. - 9. Beach - Port Bon - Travel through the passage to the Beach. It would make more sense to go east from here to Port Bon. The Fisherman here gives you hints for Mushrooms. - Visit Port Bon. There are many shops here. Use the trick in the other section of this FAQ to get Canes of Destruction from the Casino. - Visit the Old Man on the beach. You will know your purpose. Head to the western area of the beach to find Cancer. He is in a cave and found after Looking at a small crab. - Defeat Cancer and give it to the Old Man for the boat. The boat is in the eastern part of Bon Harbor. At this point you can go to Farb Island and buy better armor and shields. Do not bother with the swords though, they have nasty side effects and you can get better ones in the next dungeon. - 10. Nekojara Island - Nekojara Volcano - Travel to Nekojara Island and enter the Volcano. Head in from either the right or left. Explore both areas to find more treasure and experience, but after the first level they connect to the same second level. - Enter the first level and explore it and the second level. There are some important items here. The Sword of Fire is on the first level-right side. - Find the Cooling Cloak and Dragon Horn. One on each side I believe. You need both of these, but there is other miscellaneous stuff you can get. The Cooling Cloak is first level-left side. The Dragon Horn is first level-right side. - Enter the lowest level and find the Tritrium and Veil. The Veil is essential, and the Tritrium will be very useful later. The location of both is in the FAQ section. - Fight the Fire Dragon and obtain the Shard Of Fire and Dragon Scale, but Bogi will leave. If you have all the essential items, the Fire Dragon will fight you. You travel in the lowest area with the Cooling Cloak, call him with the Dragon Horn, and withstand his blast with the Veil. Backtrack out after the event and attempt to go somewhere on the boat when you are ready. - 11. After Nekojara - Farb Island - Travel somewhere on the boat to meet Layl and have her join you. Layl is your last third person in your party. She will learn spells. - Travel to Farb Island. There are shops on the eastern part. - Sell the Tritrium and Dragon Scale to the Blacksmith. You can now buy awesome stuff in the shops, best in the game. I prefer the speed equipment to the dragon equipment though. - Visit Dr. Normal. He is in the northwestern part. Your last objective before Zakdos's Castle besides assembling the Worldstone is now clear. - 12. Underwater Cave/Skuner Island - Travel to the Underwater Cave/Skuner Island. This is an option unique to Layl's Submarine. - Explore, but do not touch the pot. This is basically another straightforward area with little if any treasure. - Fight the Kraken (the dark spot in the water in the northeast part). There is an exit out in this room as well. - Obtain the Shard Of Water and then receive the Worldstone as the Shards merge. This is in the room to the left of the Kraken. Finally, you got that out of the way. Now go to Nuku Island. - 13. Nuku Island - Tower of Mystery - Explore the stalk on Nuku Island. The enemies are not too difficult and give good exp compared to their ability to fight, but the stalk is expansive and contains much treasure. - Find the three Blue Stones. Leave the three Red Stones alone. For some locations of the stones, check the FAQ Section. - Enter the Tower Of Mystery. Be sure to open the door above you, which will actually be below you once you enter through the secret way. You can enter by filling up the fountain in the upper left Ruins and going through the tree stalk in the fountain in the right area. - Explore the Tower Of Mystery with the Elevator and the three Blue Stones. You can explore it limitedly with only one or two Blue Stones, but what is the point? In one area where you climb a vine, if you choose the middle one that makes you slip, head left and you will find a secret area where you can be healed and get one of two Canes of Thunder in the game. The right one will let you ascend, and do not bother with the left one. On the second floor, obtain the Family Crest by exploring and Hitting all the Hishojin statues. - Climb to the top and dissolve the barrier. Battling wickedly tough enemies along the way. The elevator on the fourth floor will not work until you place the Family Crest and obtain the Hishoshek. - Defeat Red Eye and obtain the Hishoshek. It is time to make the final haul. Get out of there. - 14. After Tower of Mystery - Before Zakdos's Castle - Travel to Farb Island. Very difficult to do. On par with entering Castle Winder. - Give the Hishosheki to Dr. Normal. Again, northwestern part. - Talk to him until he says his airship is done. This simulates the passage of time or something. - Travel to Zakdos's Castle on the airship. It is in the northern part of the island. - 15. Zakdos's Castle - Dark Dragon - Use the Bell Of Water on the entrance. Remember that thing? - Explore the first level. Some doors close permanently after you go through them, be aware of this. Also notice the warp chest and remember it for later. - Explore the second, third, and fourth levels. The second level is accessible only through the third floor. The third floor is the smallest but contains quite a few secrets. The fourth floor has two icons on the floor that switch the rooms around. The fourth floor also contains by now unnecessary treasure (Cane of Destruction). - Defeat the three Demos Brothers and press the switches behind them. The one on the second floor is easy enough to find in the western area. The one on the third floor may have to be found after doing some investigation and paying close attention to the surroundings. The one on the fourth floor is directly to the right of where you warp from the chest on the first floor. - Travel to the fourth floor and activate the switch on the right side of the area. The rooms are now correctly aligned for you to proceed. - Go left to the library, down, and cross the bridge activated by the Demos Brother switches. Here comes the final part. - Defeat the Beast Knight. Go for it. - Defeat the Shell Dragon. And again. - Defeat Zakdos, but Mute and Layl will leave. You thought you were finished. - Defeat Dark Dragon and win the game! Kudos. 5. Basic Tips ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Constantly Look and Hit stuff, especially trees. If you see Bonk, then you will not get anything. If you see Thump, then you probably have found something! After about five tries, the thing you are hitting or looking at will no longer give you an item regardless. Look and Hit stuff, because just doing one will not get both items. Do not take the Red Stones on Nuku Island, they will cause you to lose HP. The Tritrium is somewhere east of the Fire Dragon's lair in the Nekojara Volcano in a wall. Before a character leaves you, take all of their stuff off so you can sell it later. (Easier to do with Nina than Bogi). Use the Pliers on the shells in the Pixies' Cave to find Gem Stones. In the eastern part of Rod's Village, knock down the Bee Hive to receive some Honey. Go northwest to find a Bear. Give him the Honey to receive a Fishing Pole. You can use this to catch Fish at the nearby streams, but here the chain seems to end. In my opinion, the best armor and shield is the Speed Armor and Speed Shield. The ultimate spell in the game is Empower/Enfeeble or Fortify/Weaken. Cast it and you cannot lose! This works incredibly well against the final bosses. Atomize is nice but simply does not have that kind of firepower. In the Bon Casino, wait until the numbers flash by the 8, and then right afterward, the 6. Each of these numbers are in the second row from the top. Wait for the next time the flashing light starts to go through the cycle, and then hit the button quickly after the flashing light leaves the second row from the bottom. If you hit it at just the right time, you will receive a Cane of Destruction! If you hit it too early, you will receive a Cane of Lightning, and a Cane of Frost if you are too late. All three prizes yield much more than a pathetic 150 gold gained from selling one coin. Timing and learning the pattern is everything. No matter what though, this is the #1 way to make some quick and easy money. The Comfort equipment is a joke, do not buy/equip it! The Fruit of Trent can be found by hitting the Trent Tree after talking to it. It is located one section to the west of the entrance to Rod's Woods. To my knowledge that is the only way to gain a Fruit of Trent, so save it for right before your battle with Zakdos. You can gain a total of three Fruit of Trent at the Trent Tree. Some walls can be knocked down in the Underground Temple Desert to make secret passageways. Try sprinkling Jaghi's Ashes on all three of the statues too. Hit the stains on the wall in the Ancient Temple to fight a Ghost for an Herb or Wheat. The Miracle Sword and Sword of Good Luck increase the chance of a critical hit for you, but also the chances of a mortal blow for the enemies you face. You can give the mushrooms you pick in Rod's Woods to the fisherman at the beach for generic hints. The maximum level in the game is 32, once you reach that level, it says that you can gain the next level after receiving an infinite amount of experience points. One mystery is what to do with the Lizard Tail, Fish Fossil, Fish, and if there is a way to deter the octopus in the jar in the Underwater Cave with a octopus trap from the Old Man on the Beach. 6. Enemy: Frog Area: Riccar Woods (River Area) HP: 1-10 AP: 28 DP: 24 Agility: 10 Gold: 1 EXP: 2 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Less dangerous than the moth even, treat them like the dust you walk on. Enemy: Skeleton Area: Riccar Woods HP: 1-9 AP: 18 DP: 20 Agility: 8 Gold: 1 EXP: 1 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Only slightly stronger than the Blop, and that is why he still yields little reward for killing him. You have to love these early-game monsters. Enemy: Big Bat Area: Ancient Temple HP: 1-6 AP: 26 DP: 26 Agility: 24 Gold: 4 EXP: 3 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: The main problem here is at early levels he can get in the first hit and hit hard. Otherwise, another annoying pest. Enemy: Spider Area: Ancient Temple HP: 1-6 AP: 30 DP: 22 Agility: 14 Gold: 1 EXP: 3 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: I would probably rather fight a Big Bat, but these give less Gold. Just strike them dead first because they can Paralyze. Enemy: Ghost Area: Ancient Temple HP: 11-15 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 5 EXP: 3 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Just get Mute's Agility up high and start off with Fire. The Ghost will succumb and you can take your reward. Enemy: Basilisk Area: Desert HP: 7-9 AP: 34 DP: 30 Agility: 18 Gold: 4 EXP: 4 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: The weakest one in the Desert, just dispose of them with the usual methods. Enemy: Roc Area: Desert HP: 9-15 AP: 34 DP: 26 Agility: 28 Gold: 5 EXP: 5 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: A bit stronger than the Basilisk, you can still kill these in one hit using most methods (except for a physical Mute attack of course). Enemy: Sand Worm Area: Desert HP: 58-62 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 11 EXP: 26 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Mummy Area: Underground Temple Desert HP: 24 AP: 58 DP: 40 Agility: 18 Gold: 11 EXP: 7 Spells: Snooze Special Attack: No Comments: The first enemy that can throw you off, beware the Snooze spell. Take these guys out first or you will regret it later. Enemy: Salamander Area: Underground Temple Desert HP: 1-17 AP: 38 DP: 34 Agility: 14 Gold: 5 EXP: 5 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Not sure what these guys are doing here. You could virtually ignore them if not for their special attack. Enemy: Dorg Area: Underground Temple Desert HP: 19-20 AP: 40 DP: 38 Agility: 16 Gold: 8 EXP: 6 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: For some reason I remember these guys as weird-looking. I recall they were an annoying threat but I cannot remember why. Enemy: Labirola Area: Underground Temple Desert HP: 25-44 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 15 EXP: 10 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: A sort of mini-boss but weaker than the Sand Worm for the most part. Just smack it with an Ice Spell once you learn it or use Fire and physical attacks. Enemy: Jaghi Area: Underground Temple Desert HP: 68-89 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 28 EXP: 38 Spells: Granite Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Toge Blop Area: Prairie HP: 18-26 AP: 54 DP: 36 Agility: 18 Gold: 11 EXP: 8 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: It is a new and improved Blop! Beware! No seriously, just watch out for the special attack and you should be more than fine. Enemy: Lizardman Area: Lake HP: 32 AP: 66 DP: 52 Agility: 22 Gold: 18 EXP: 11 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Just a basic physical attacker that is probably weaker than you. Deal with them accordingly. Enemy: King Frog Area: Lake HP: 21-27 AP: 62 DP: 50 Agility: 20 Gold: 15 EXP: 9 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Apparently they wanted to upgrade another crapling. Less threatening than the Lizardman, just deal with them whenever. Enemy: Death Fish Area: Lake HP: 22-24 AP: 70 DP: 46 Agility: 32 Gold: 18 EXP: 12 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: If you can stop laughing at the hilarity of this thing's name, you should be wary of this one. It seems to have a bit more fortitude than the others and should be dealt with accordingly. Enemy: Slug Area: Lake HP: 36 AP: 72 DP: 54 Agility: 24 Gold: 23 EXP: 13 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: This is the one to watch out for. Their special attack (Stone) make them formidable opponents. Kill these first and kill them quick. Enemy: Kobold Area: Rod's Woods HP: 30 AP: 102 DP: 70 Agility: 38 Gold: 28 EXP: 16 Spells: Fire, Blaze Special Attack: Yes Comments: The difficulty of the monsters shoots upward at this point. Kobolds are predominantly offense monsters and therefore should be struck down first. They are an excellent target for a multi-target ice-oriented spell coming from Mute's direction. Enemy: Hibagon Area: Rod's Woods HP: 44 AP: 90 DP: 68 Agility: 28 Gold: 34 EXP: 22 Spells: Ice, Blizzard Special Attack: No Comments: Smack these ones down with physical attacks. These should be dealt with after Kobolds, but you can attack them physically while hitting Kobolds with magic. Enemy: Maneater Area: Rod's Woods HP: 30 AP: 90 DP: 60 Agility: 26 Gold: 28 EXP: 19 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: I usually struck these things down right away with an attack from Bogi. They have some wicked attack power but cannot take the heat so send them out of the kitchen. Enemy: Creeper Area: Rod's Woods HP: 5-241 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 52 EXP: 52 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Darkmage Area: Castle Winder and Bon HP: 39 AP: 92 DP: 78 Agility: 64 Gold: 46 EXP: 30 Spells: Fire, Blaze, Blast Special Attack: No Comments: Again the difficulty goes up a large notch. Thankfully these guys do not hit with Blast too often, so just treat them like the weak things they are and strike them down whenever. Enemy: Wraith Area: Castle Winder and Bon HP: 45 AP: 98 DP: 84 Agility: 30 Gold: 39 EXP: 26 Spells: StealHP, StealMP, Blizzard Special Attack: No Comments: A step up from the Darkmages, these guys pack the punch physically and magically and can take the hits as well. Deal with these last because they will take the longest to kill but Berzerkkers hit harder. Enemy: Berzerker Area: Castle Winder and Bon HP: 43 AP: 122 DP: 80 Agility: 50 Gold: 52 EXP: 35 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: That is some absolutely wonderful rewards for killing something so defenseless. These things can be killed quickly, and you should do so because their offensive aspects are considerably more dangerous than their defensive ones. Enemy: Killer (Ghost) Sword Area: Castle Winder HP: 60-61 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 60 EXP: 41 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Hug Area: Castle Winder HP: 187-199 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 67 EXP: 63 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Seaserpent Area: Beach HP: 26-30 AP: 134 DP: 102 Agility: 54 Gold: 60 EXP: 41 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: These guys can dish it out but cannot take it. Kill them first. It does seem absurd that these guys net the same benefits as a Ghost/Killer Sword but cannot compare realistically. Enemy: Nortirus Area: Beach HP: 42 AP: 112 DP: 110 Agility: 34 Gold: 52 EXP: 35 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: These are the ones that can take the damage. Since they do not deal that much hurt, save them for last. Enemy: Cancer Area: Beach HP: 96-108 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 76 EXP: 70 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Dark Knight Area: Bon, Farb Island, and Ruins HP: 64-71 AP: 126 DP: 108 Agility: 56 Gold: 67 EXP: 46 Spells: Bolt, Tempest Special Attack: No Comments: A sort of all-around baddie. He can dish it out, take it, and attack physically and magically. Just use a conservative approach to these guys and you should be fine. Enemy: Rockban Area: Nekojara Island HP: 54 AP: 144 DP: 142 Agility: 42 Gold: 84 EXP: 53 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Honestly, Rock-B-an? Obvious typo in my opinion on the part of the developers. Anyway, these things are like tanks with little firepower. It takes a while to kill them, but they will not be doing much while you take them down. Enemy: Beholder Area: Nekojara Island HP: 56-58 AP: 170 DP: 110 Agility: 44 Gold: 93 EXP: 68 Spells: Fire, Blaze, Bolt Special Attack: Yes Comments: I think these are the things that explode when they die. Extremely annoying they are. Other than that, they are not a big deal. Enemy: Skarab Area: Upper Level Nekojara Volcano HP: 63-71 AP: 120 DP: 118 Agility: 60 Gold: 76 EXP: 53 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Another random weakling thrown in there, even the Rockban is better than these things. Enemy: Skud Area: Upper Level Nekojara Volcano HP: 75-76 AP: 150 DP: 130 Agility: 44 Gold: 93 EXP: 68 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Ok, these things can hurt. Hopefully, you will only see them coming at you in groups of one. Anyway, kill these things first, because they are the ones who deal the most damage at the beginning of Nekojara. Enemy: Minotaur Area: Lower Level Nekojara Volcano HP: 76-80 AP: 158 DP: 136 Agility: 46 Gold: 102 EXP: 77 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: If they wanted to upgrade the difficulty, they did not really pull it off. These things are similar to Berzerrkers. They hit hard but only take decent amounts of damage. Enemy: Dinosaur Area: Lower Level Nekojara Volcano HP: 80-86 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 113 EXP: 86 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: These things are a bit more nasty. They hit harder and take more than Minotaurs. Other than a special attack, they are just nastier Minotaurs with a different graphic. Enemy: Fire Dragon Area: Lower Level Nekojara Volcano HP: 262-326 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 134 EXP: 145 Spells: Destroy Special Attack: Yes Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Behemoth Area: Farb Island and Nuku Ruins HP: 75-76 AP: 170 DP: 130 Agility: 44 Gold: 93 EXP: 68 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: These guys are supposed to be tougher than what? They take decent amounts of damage but cannot deal much. Enemy: Tornemage Area: Farb Island and Nuku Ruins HP: 1-36 AP: 126 DP: 124 Agility: 62 Gold: 84 EXP: 60 Spells: Blast, Destroy Special Attack: No Comments: They hit hard with powerful spells but, as you can see, normally die in one hit. Kill them first, kill them quick, and kill them easily. Enemy: Specter Area: Skuner Island and Nuku Tower Of Mystery HP: 72 AP: 162 DP: 136 Agility: 108 Gold: 145 EXP: 120 Spells: De-Spell, Blizzard Special Attack: No Comments: I just remember these guys as the random companions of the Liches and Big Crows. However, you will probably see them first on Skuner Island. Since they are by themselves, just use normal tactics. They are just a basically semi-strong enemy that pale in comparison to Liches. Enemy: Kraken Area: Skuner Island HP: 183-237 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 170 EXP: 197 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Bone Bird Area: Nuku Island HP: 80-85 AP: 164 DP: 142 Agility: 48 Gold: 113 EXP: 86 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: The second weakest thing on Nuku Island, just dispatch with the pests using your tried and true methods. Enemy: Fly Eel Area: Nuku Island HP: 62-71 AP: 164 DP: 120 Agility: 96 Gold: 113 EXP: 77 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Another random weakling compared to the others on the island. Again, make quick use of them with your usual methods. Enemy: Stalker Area: Nuku Island HP: 39-42 AP: 158 DP: 136 Agility: 92 Gold: 102 EXP: 77 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Hilarious. Just kill it. Enemy: Rhinokite Area: Nuku Island HP: 63-71 AP: 172 DP: 148 Agility: 100 Gold: 123 EXP: 97 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: These might pose a minor problem, so pay special attention to them in comparison to the other monsters on Nuku Island. These are really the only ones that were not designed to not outright kill someone coming to Nuku on accident. Enemy: Gias Area: Inside Tree Trunk HP: 1-52 AP: 164 DP: 142 Agility: 96 Gold: 113 EXP: 163 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: You might play through the game and miss these guys entirely. Check out that great experience. Too bad they usually come alone, but they die quickly and easily. Enemy: Big Crow Area: Nuku Tower of Mystery and Ruins HP: 45-46 AP: 202 DP: 176 Agility: 52 Gold: 134 EXP: 108 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Is the Big Crow truly so big that you can see nothing of it but its big claw? Whatever. Startling attack, decent defense, but nothing else. Enemy: Mimic Area: Nuku Tower of Mystery HP: 81-104 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 170 EXP: 161 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: The traditional treasure chest lurker. Gives great gold and exp though. Not too difficult to kill if you hit it with your best shots. Enemy: Lich Area: Nuku Tower of Mystery and Zakdos's Castle HP: 73-75 AP: 208 DP: 188 Agility: 56 Gold: 158 EXP: 133 Spells: Destroy, StealHP Special Attack: No Comments: Just be thankful it has no special attack and Destroy is half and half with StealHP. Otherwise, my namesake is one of the most if not the most powerful common monster in the game when you consider how powerful you are when you meet it. Hit it with everything you got but keep your defenses up. Enemy: Red Eye Area: Nuku Tower of Mystery HP: 261-331 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 183 EXP: 223 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Metal Knight Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 108-109 AP: 226 DP: 172 Agility: 60 Gold: 183 EXP: 177 Spells: Fortify, Destroy Special Attack: No Comments: Welcome to Zakdos's Castle, now die. The Metal Knight is a vastly improved Dark Knight and is going to be a royal pain for the duration of your journey in the floating castle. Another solid fighter. Enemy: Killer Animal Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 78 AP: 170 DP: 178 Agility: 116 Gold: 170 EXP: 147 Spells: Recover, StealMP Special Attack: No Comments: At least one of these guys is pathetic. Since he casts healing spells, smack this one up first. More an annoyance than a threat. Enemy: Metal Mimic Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 46-146 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 239 EXP: 249 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: Very dangerous, but hit this one hard and quick. Kill it in the first round before it attacks and a nice reward of gold, exp, and no damage is in store for you. Enemy: Bone Golem Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 107-122 AP: 230 DP: 146 Agility: 64 Gold: 196 EXP: 194 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: Only seen on the second and third floors of the castle. This is an above average fighter that tends to resist spells. Takes a while to kill him, but he should not be able to do much before he kicks it. Enemy: Durahan Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 115-120 AP: 212 DP: 154 Agility: 96 Gold: 210 EXP: 212 Spells: Weaken, Pillage Special Attack: None Comments: Second toughest common monster in this game. Just the ultimate solid fighter with no special characteristics. One note is that it is a royal pain to try and kill these guys in one attack, they always seem to require two for some odd reason. Enemy: Griffin Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 118-122 AP: 246 DP: 216 Agility: 98 Gold: 224 EXP: 232 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: What to say about this one. I usually find that putting them to sleep stalls them long enough for a kill unless there is just one in which case use Weaken. You can always try Atomize if you encounter a group of three of them. These things make Liches look tame, and that assuredly is not easy. Thankfully, the common monsters stop here. Enemy: Demos Brothers Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 159-191 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 239 EXP: 255 Spells: Destroy Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Beast Knight Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 161-288 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 239 EXP: 255 Spells: None Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Shell Dragon Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: 242-286 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 239 EXP: 255 Spells: None Special Attack: Yes Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Zakdos Area: Zakdos's Castle HP: ? AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 254 EXP: 250 Spells: Pillage, Atomize, Heal Special Attack: No Comments: See Boss Section. Enemy: Dark Dragon Area: Riccar Castle HP: 305-469 AP: ? DP: ? Agility: ? Gold: 255 EXP: 255 Spells: Destroy, Heal Special Attack: Yes Comments: See Boss Section. 9.
