This one covers the GameBoy game Pipe Dream, which, in its many years, has not had a single FAQ completed for it. This game has always been one of my favorites because, despite its simplicity, it requires a deep level of strategy. Before I go any further, however, I must graciously and wholesomely thank Darkstar Ripclaw, another GameFAQs user, for having bought me this game. Without him, I would not have this game, and probably not written an FAQ for it. Well, actually, that pretty much ends another crappy introduction. Here is an FAQ for you. Enjoy. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Two: Version History **DREAM_2** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Final - First and likely only version of this FAQ completed. 11:26 PM 4/10/2012 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Three: Legalities **DREAM_3** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= This FAQ may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use. They will widen/narrow the screen, respectively. Otherwise, N/A. ---------------- Playing the Game ---------------- Most often, you'll start playing on a mostly-empty field. There is always a starting pipe, marked with an "S", from which the flooz will flow. Your goal is to place piping to move the flooz enough distance to head to the next level. There is a distance counter at the top of the screen; each pipe, except for crossover pipes, will count as one unit of distance. Crossover pipes account for two. You must meet this distance to go to the next level. Otherwise, it is a game over. Additionally, there may sometimes be an end piece, marked with an "E", into which the flooz must flow at the end. You must get it there AND meet the minimum distance to win. At the start, I'll simply say you should start planning ahead. Place piping to lead the flooz wherever it needs to go before it starts to flow. Continue after it does, even if you meet the distance requirement (you want a bunch of points don't you?). If you meet the minimum distance to the pipeline's end, you'll go to the next stage once the flooz gets there. Also note that, when placing piping, you can replace piping that hasn't any flooz in it. However, this will count against you for 50 points, though it does save room. Do this at your own discretion and risk. Some pipes may not be "blasted" in this manner. Once you're done, press Select to speed up the flooz. You'll also get double points this way ... but you won't get any control over anything. There are 36 stages to this game, by the way. As you go further in, the distance needed will increase; the flooz will flow faster; and special pipes will appear. ---------- Pipe Types ---------- -- There are starting pipes and end pipes, marked with "S" and "E", respectively, that are only open at one end. Flooz comes from the start pipe and, when there is one, must go into the end pipe. -- There are seven basic pipes through which flooz flows. They are unmarked and otherwise not special. There are the up/down, right/left, the elbow curves, and the crossover (crosspiece). The crosspiece is special in that flooz can go through twice; once one way and you can make a loop for another. Note that flooz will go straight through it whenever it reaches it; it won't turn. -- The four one-way pipes are shaped like arrows. The flooz can only go through them in the direction they are pointing. -- Reservoirs are shaped like circles. Flooz comes in here and takes longer than usual to fill it up. You can get 200 points for just using it; in a loop, it doubles the bonus. -- Bonus pipes are pipes with greenish rectangles next to them. They can simply give an extra 400 points and quadruple loop bonuses. -- Tunnels allow you to go from one side of the screen to the other. You'll get 800 points for using them, and including them in a loop (it IS possible) will multiply the bonus by EIGHT. ------- Scoring ------- Using Select to speed the flooz will double all points obtained in this time period. All scores after meeting the minimum distance required are doubled as well. Leaving a piece unused or blasting a piece subtracts 50 points. Using a pipe has a certain base value: -- Basic Pipe : +50 points -- One-Way Pipe: +100 points -- Reservoir : +200 points -- Bonus Pipe : +400 points -- Tunnel : +800 points -- End Pipe : +1,600 points Whenever you use a crossover (crosspiece) pipe and make a loop, there are certain multipliers that are applied for pipes in the loop, dependent on what pipes are put into the loop: -- Basic Pipe : x1 -- One-Way Pipe: x1 -- Reservoir : x2 -- Bonus Pipe : x4 -- Tunnel : x8 Putting a loop within a loop makes a "x4" multiplier as well. All multipliers are added together. For example, using a Bonus Pipe and Reservoir in a compound loop (loop within a loop) has a multiplier of "x10" rather than "x32". If you manage to fill in every tile on the field with a pipe and use them all for one continual pipelipe, you'll get 100,000 points!! ---------------- Two-Player Modes ---------------- To play two-player mode, you'll need two GameBoy handhelds (whether GBA SP's or GameBoy Player accessories apply is unknown), two Pipe Dream game paks, and one GameBoy Link Cable. Connect the two and opt to play two-player mode from the the title screen. Two-Player A is a competitive mode just like single-player, except that making a loop will force your opponent's flooz ahead by four pieces. The winner of one round is determined by score; the overall winner is the one who wins three in a row first. If your game is ended due to flooz, you must wait on your opponent. Two-Player B is just like single-player, but is a co-operative effort between two players who take turns in placing pieces. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Five: One-Player Mode Passwords **DREAM_5** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= You know, I've never really been more thankful for the "Notes" section at the end of instruction booklets.
