Hardly one of the most played Final Fantasy games, FFL3 was actually the first RPG I ever played and for that, it will always hold a place in my heart. Simple to play, but hard to beat, FFL3 offers pure, unadulterated fun and is a welcome break to the angst and misery of its more famous siblings. Cronos: A wise man living in the town of Elan, he helps the party look for units in the present. Granny: A powerful magician, Granny lives in the town of Elan and runs the magic shop there. Dr Belski: Living in Viper in the Future, Dr Belski is a pioneering medic, capable of curing any wound at all. He has to patch up Dion a fair few times. Dr Pulcer: Living in a bunker under the sea, Dr Pulcer is the brains behind the plan to get to PureLand and stop Xagor. Dr Quacer: Part of the Original party that came to PureLand, Dr Quacer has founded the town of Talonsburg, where he lives with Borgin. King Clamin: Originally hailing from Elan, Clamin has settled down in PureLand, ruling the cloud city of Cirrus. He holds the Pass Key needed to enter the Underworld. Buzi: One of the original Talon crew, the Sage Buzi carries lots of useful potions around. Shar: Another of the original Talon crew, the Mage Shar can create lost magic using powerful stones. Juba: A part of the original Talon crew, the Armourer Jubi can forge strong armour with stones. Masa: The last of the original Talon crew, the Blacksmith Masa can forge weapons of mass destruction. Jupiah: The last of the original Talon party, Jupiah met his demise before the main party reached PureLand. Xagor: The Water Entity that threatens the world is of Xagor's devising; it wishes to see only PureLand live on. Sol: The most powerful human in existance, only he can stop the Water Entity, but he's been taken and imprisoned by Xagor. / =============================== \ < [06] Controls > \ =============================== / D-pad: Move A: Confirm/Talk B: Cancel/Jump Start: Menu Select: Change character sprite / =============================== \ < [07] Tips > \ =============================== / 1) Jump EVERYWHERE. It reduces the amount of time you're on the floor, and thus means you get into less random encounters. 2) The quickest way to go down a floor is to simply jump into a hole. 3) Enemies are incredibly easy to classify into groups, depending upon what magic they're weak against. Plants and fire-creatures are weak against Ice, sea-creatures are weak against Fire, etc. However, there are a few cases that can be confusing. Simply experiment! 4) Upgrade your equipment CONSTANTLY. It's expensive to do so, and while not immediately apparent in your stats, your characters are virtually guaranteed to now be better fighters. 5) Each characters health affects their speed. The higher the HP, the faster the speed. Keep this in mind for boss battles; keep your health up so you can get your hits and further healing in first! 6) Whenever you get a supporting character, it's a good idea to level the main characters until they're the same level as the support. This is coz' the support character is set at a fixed level which should get them through the area that they're with you for, ergo, it's the level your characters should be at to survive. 7) When selecting battle options, press Start to be able to choose Parry or Guard; you may just need them. 8) Almost every enemy is weak to instant-kill moves such as Stone, Exit and Fatal, but bear in mind that killing an enemy with Exit will not get you any experience. / =============================== \ < [08] Walkthrough > \ =============================== / <--[08a] The Beginning------------------------------------------> We begin... in a fight! Myron will be your strongest character, so have him attack a Diviner on his own. Arthur and Curtis should attack one of the Sprites while Gloria casts Ice on the other. In the second round, just twat the remaining enemies; there should only be one Diviner left. Once the fight is over, it turns out you were only using a Battle Simulator! Just read the text and scroll through; all the actions here are controlled by the game for a while. When you regain control, you should be standing atop the Talon, your ticket home... if only it worked! It seems it needs these things called units, and Elder has already given you one! So, you now need to head to the North Tower to get the spell, Float, but first, I recommend returning to Dharm. Level up using the simulator until you're at least matching Myron's level, and stock Cure and Ice spells onto Curtis and Gloria, they'll be your main magicians. Once you've done that, leave Dharm and head directly north from it to the lake. Go around it to the right and then up to the north coast. Head west and around the mountains to the tower. Inside the tower, head straight up the stairs on the first screen. Next, head left and down around the bend to get Shell from the chest. Head back to the stairs and go right this time to find the stairs up. Head straight left, round the back of the stairs, and open the chest from behind it. Jump over it and take the stairs up. Open the chest to find Float! Exit the tower and cast Float immediately. You'll be sucked into an upside- down cone for some reason, but mweh. West of Dharm is Elan, a cave that goes under the ground to a hidden village! Inside, are two key places; Cronos' house at the very bottom, and Granny's magic shop, which is hidden. To find the magic shop, head into the inn and take the stairs down. Enter the spring and two squares down on the extreme left side is a secret pathway, leading to the waterfall. Simply walk up where the water is coming down and you're in the shop! In Cronos' house, talk to the guy in the baggy robe and he'll give you the unit that allows the Talon to travel to the past. After getting new equipment, weapons and spells, leave Elan and cast Float again. Fly to where the Talon is being kept and you'll discover a Waterhag is blocking the way! [%%%]BOSS: Waterhag [08a.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 480 Just throw everything you got at it. It's not strong against Ice, so make sure Gloria and Curtis cast those, while Arthur, Sharon and Myron attack. It shouldn't take more than two rounds to kill it off... [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Head inside, and when you get atop the Talon, Myron will leave you party to resume guarding Dharm from monsters. Enter, and then walk upwards to the console. The Past unit will automatically be installed, so select the warp option, and then Past! <--[08b] Back in Time ------------------------------------------> Head north-east of the Palace, and you'll find a strangely familiar-looking old man there. Talk to him and you'll discover he's a past version of Dharm's Elder! Cast Float and head south-west from the Palace to a the village of Lae. Head straight up from the entrance to find an item shop. Talk to the shopkeep, and it'll give you the Flushex unit. After grabbing Fire1 and Aero spells from the magic shop, leave and cast Float again. Go north to Elan and head straight for Cronos' house. He's a little kid now, but he tells you that Granny has gone off to save Lara in the cave, which you'll find south of the Palace, but you don't want to do that. Trust me, unless you've been levelling like mad, you WILL get slaughtered. Level up to about level 10 and then venture inside (though, having said that, I went and did my levelling on the first floor of the cave anyway =P). Inside, take the left path and follow it around to find a plume. Return to the entrance and take the right path this time. It'll take you to Granny; she'll say Lara was taken by Dogra and then shuffle back to Elan. Don't go down the stairs, but go to the left instead. The path will take you to a chest containing Iron nunchucks. Now, return to the stairs and down we go! Head right and then go all the way up to the top. Go left and take the stairs down. Follow the path to the right and down. Take the first turn to the left and take the stairs up. Follow the stairs and you'll find Lara... [%%%]BOSS: Lara [08b.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 430 She'll be strong against all of your magic, but don't let that put you off. Just have Curtis and Gloria cast Fire1 while Arthur and Sharon attack. This really shouldn't pose any difficulties at level 10 or higher. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Follow the path down and go around the statue pyramid, up the steps and it's boss time! [%%%]BOSS: Dogra [08b.2][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 3,060 Straight off, Arthur and Sharon concentrate on killing off the Witches while Lara casts Lit1 and Curtis and Gloria cast Aero on Dogra. Once the Witches are dead, use Arthur and Sharon as healers since the other three will do far more damage. This shouldn't take too long... [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Open the chest to find the Rover unit before heading back to Elan. Go to Cronos' house where you'll find Granny once more. She'll give you the spell Dive and tell you how to use it. Now, you do NOT want to go roaming around under the sea just yet. Any chests you find under the sea in the past will be opened in the present and the future, so it makes sense to wait until you get to the future before you start raiding the chests right? However, north of Elan is a small cove. Dive in here and you'll find an underwater city. Stock up on armour and weapons here before leaving. Head back to the Palace and plug in the Rover and Flushex units. Use the Past unit once more to be returned to the present... <--[08c] Return to the Present----------------------------------> Upon leaving the Palace, you're automatically taken to Dharm and a brief talk is held. Lara leaves your party here and you're told to go and see Cronos once more. He'll tell you that the Future unit is in the Tower, but suddenly a large building erupts from the ground in Lae's Bay. Cronos tells you that it's one of the four Water Entities. He'll give you a duplicate of the Tower Key so head over there. Go straight up to the second floor. To the left is a chest containing a B.Jack and the stairs are to the right. On the third floor, you can get an Air Stone and a TNT. On the fourth floor, try to take as few steps as possible since the enemies here are really nasty. Finally, on the fifth floor, head straight up to Ashura... [%%%]BOSS: Ashura [08c.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 3,600 Ashura is aligned with fire, so casting Fire1 is right out of the window. Instead, have Gloria and Curtis cast Aero on him while Arthur and Sharon beat up on the Warriors. Once they're dead, use them to heal, or attack when no healing is necessary. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Once Ashura is toast, open the chest to get the Chaos Key. After resting at an inn of your choice, head over to Lae's Bay and dive to get inside Chaos' Castle. You'll want to do some levelling up in here before trying to reach the boss. Go left and take the up escalator. Press to the right as you zip upwards and you'll enter a hidden room. Open the chest to get an elixir. Take the escalator down and return to the up escalator. On the second floor, make your way to the far left side. Open the chest to get a Cure 2 before jumping over it to get to the down escalator on the other side. Now, it appears that you need to go down a level to be able to progress but that ain't so. Instead, try to walk up the down escalator that's two squares above a hole. You'll get turned so just jump away. Don't go straight for the stairs, head to the far right to find another secret room, containing an Earth element. NOW you can go up the stairs =P On the third floor, get on the down escalator from the top and hold right to get off straight away. Use the turnaround trick again and jump over the hole to get some gold gloves. Jump over the chest and leave via the door. Head straight up and the Chaos Key will be used to unlock the big door. Head right and up the stairs to get some Psi Armour. I'd equip it on your slowest mage, who is probably Gloria. In the main room again, exit via the bottom-left and then head right to get a Soft. Follow the path around the outside and take the stairs up. Keep on following the path, but make sure to get the Fire Shield, and equip it on the mage which DIDN'T get the Psi Armour, most likely to be Curtis. Go down the stairs and make your way along the path until you finally reach Chaos. [%%%]BOSS: Chaos [08c.2][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 4,020 In my opinion, this is the toughest fight in the game. Between Quake, which does 150 damage to all characters, Crash which does 140 to one character, HeadBut which does 100 to one character and StonGaze which petrifies one character, Chaos makes you have to work real hard to defeat him. Start by using Arthur and Sharon as healers, while Curtis and Gloria bombard him with Aero; make sure that Arthur and Sharon are casting Cure EVERY round, including the first one. When one of your healers starts to run low on MP, switch roles so that Arthur and Sharon are attacking Chaos, while Curtis and Gloria are healing; Aero will do more damage than their weapons, but you need to have two healers to have a chance to survive this fight. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Once you've defeated him, grab the Future and Hover units for Talon and then make your way back out. Underwater, head north to a shipwreck, where you can find an Air Stone and TearGas before heading west to Muu. Stock up on Cure2 and Lit1 spells, as well as new equip (But don't get the Silver Shields, you'll get Gold in just a few minutes; the same goes for the Gold Swords, since Psi swords are five minutes away) for your party before heading further west to another shipwreck, where you'll find an Earth Stone and a Thunder Staff. Finally, head back to the Palace and board Talon, equipping the new units, before setting off for the Future. <--[08d] To the Future!-----------------------------------------> Once you've left the Palace, cast Float and head west to Elan. Talk to Cronos and then talk to Granny, who'll give you the Morph spell, before stocking up on the new wares, including the aforementioned Gold Shields. Head for Muu, which is still beneath the sea, north of Elan. When you enter, cast the Morph spell so you take the appearance of a Waterhag, and thus can converse with the locals. Get two Psi Swords for Arthur and Sharon, and get Quake and Ice2 spells for Curtis and Gloria. Get any other equip you need; you may want to take this time to earn a lot of GP since stuff's starting to get really expensive, and the fights in the future are far tougher as well, so you'll need the levels. South-east from Elan (or an easier way to find it is to go south from the Palace until you reach a tower, and then head due west) you'll find a graveyard, in the following formation: X X X X X X O X X X X X X X X X Use the tombstone in the O position to uncover a passageway leading to New Dharm. Go into the northern-most building and talk to Myron; he'll tell you to go and talk to Dion in Viper, giving you the password to get into the headquarters there: "ERAUQS" Head due north to Viper and get the Dragon Armour and Shields for everyone, excepting the person with the Psi Armour, before taking the right-hand tram and talking to the guard. Enter the building and talk to Dion, he'll give you the Rocket, and join the party, telling you to talk to Dr. Pulcer. Open the chests in the bottom-right corner for some goodies, including the awesome Berth unit, which is basically a free inn =D? Leave Viper and dive underwater, heading north to the Undersea Shelter. Talk to Dr. Pulcer and he'll give you the Radio, and inform you of the plan to get to FloatLand so you can defeat Maitreya and get the X-Plane unit needed to get to PureLand. Make sure to grab the Cure3 potion before leaving. Make sure to check out any sunken ships you haven't already to get extra goodies. Once you've done that, head back to the Palace, and take the northern-most position on the pier as you can before using the Rocket to get to FloatLand. <--[08e] Traversing FloatLand-----------------------------------> Enter the village and stock up on the Cure3 and Fire2 magic, as well as some new armour as well. When you're ready, head north to the Northern Ruins. Inside, note the cloud-covered segments of floor; these work as conveyor belts like in Chaos' Castle, but you can't tell which way these will take you without actually getting on them. Make your way to the right-hand side and walk through the wall there. Use the cloud-belts to be carried south to a warp, but before using it, step on the cloud-belt to the left to be taken to a chest containing an Earth Stone, and then step once more upon the left-hand cloud-belt. This should take you back to the room you started in, so work your way to the warp once more and use it this time. Jump over the cloud-belts to go up two squares, and then one to the left. You should be able to see a chest within the wall to your left; from the top-left corner of the square you're standing on, head straight left to find another hidden room, containing a Fire Bomb within the chest. Leave the small room and you should come out right next to the warp to the next floor. In the bottom-left corner is another wall you can walk through, go into the warp there and follow the path to find an X-Fire Staff, before returning to the warp and opening the chest there to receive a Water Stone. Leave via the other passageway and go to the warp to get to the fourth floor. Head down to get a Water Stone and then make your way west to the stairs to the next floor. Open the chest to get a SMG Gun before heading left to get the Remote. Go back to the warp, but instead of using it, go directly south to find another hidden room, leading to a staircase. On the final floor, head up and then left to get a Light Stone, and then take the stairs back to the first floor. Get the ATM Cannon and then take the door to find yourself in the center of the first chamber. Head straight upwards to leave, and then head back to the village to heal and stock up on anything you might need. Once you've done that, head back towards the Northern Ruins, but continue past it, following the path until you reach a large set of mountains. Go up the first ladder, and then take the path to the right. Follow it around to find an Ice Shield before returning to the first ladder. This time, take the left-hand ladder, and when you get the choice, take the ladder downwards. Follow the path around to get an Air Stone, and then return to the ladder you came down, going up the ladder you previously ignored. Follow the path around until you reach Maitreya's Tower. Head straigt upwards to the second floor, and then circle to the right to get a Cure3 potion, and then head up to the third floor. Note how it looks exactly the same as the second floor; floors two to eight are all identical, except for chest placement. It is as follows: Floor 2: Right (Cure 3 Potion) Floor 3: None Floor 4: Left (Psi Gun) Floor 5: None Floor 6: Right (Earth Stone) Floor 7: None Floor 8: Right (Exit) On floor nine, talk to the monster and you'll all fall down to the eighth floor, except for Dion. He'll uncover a secret door leading to Maitreya... Once you've gained control of the party again, head up to the ninth floor, but ignore the secret door, instead going up to the tenth floor, where you'll find a Cure3 potion and Battle Armour. Go back down to the ninth floor and now use the secret door in the top-right corner. Follow the path around until you reach Maitreya. [%%%]BOSS: Maitreya [08e.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 6,100 Start by having Arthur and Sharon attack Maitreya, while Curtis and Gloria both cast Quake to take out the Lamia's. Next round, have someone cast Spark on Maitreya to blind her, and then just beat up on her. She should be fairly easy if you're level 20+. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Grab the X-Plane unit and then use the Exit spell you got earlier to leave the tower quickly, and then use the Radio, followed by the Remote. Back on the mainland, Arthur quickly takes Dion to Viper where Dr. Quacer restores him, meaning you get Dion back in your party. Yay! Stock up on whatever you need and then leave Viper, boarding the Talon (stand underneath it and press A). Select Warp, and then X-Plane to get to Pureland! <--[08f] Welcome to the PureLand!-------------------------------> Upon arriving, Dion will leave the party to try and find the advance party. Take Talon to the town just east of you, Darius, and make sure to grab the Star Bomb and Heal spell, located in chests. Stock up on new armour, though keep the Dragon Shoes for Curtis and Gloria, since it gives more magic. Once you're done there, leave Darius and get back aboard Talon and head west to a small village. Enter the house to the left and talk to Eitar, he'll tell you that Faye was taken to the dungeon to the north, but everyone in the town has been turned to stone by the monster in there. He also suggests getting some catnip from the tree to put the guards to sleep. Leave the house and loop around the top towards the west and into the small field. Go over the broken fence and grab some Catnip before leaving the town and heading north. When you enter, use the Catnip, and then head left. Follow the path along and stick to the outside to get to a chest containing Wizard Armour. Head right until you reach a staircase that's two cells wide, and then head up it to find the boss. [%%%]BOSS: Fenrir [08f.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 8,100 He'll always start with a nasty unexpected attack, doing about 300-400 damage on one character. After that, have Curtis and Gloria bombard him with Fire2 spells, while Arthur and Sharon heal, attacking only when they can be spared. Be ready to cast heal to remove Confuse, since that can absolutely destroy your chances. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Open the chest to get the Prison Key, and then head down, right and up. Grab the Fur Armour and then head right and up, to find a door which you unlock using the Prison Key. Go down the stairs to the prison and push the cat out of the way to get to Faye, who'll join the party. Head back to the village now. You'll find that everyone has become unpetrified with Fenrir's defeat. Talk to Eitar, and he'll suggest you go to Mt. Hazid to find Buzi, one of the original Talon crew members. Go to the north-west house and open the chest to get a Dark Stone. Leave the village and get back onto Talon, heading to Darius once more. Take a ship from there out to Knaya. Now Knaya, as they'll happily inform you, is the center of trade in PureLand, and they're really not kidding. You have the requisite tower mall, but you also have four market segments to the south of that, each one specialising in one group of items, i.e. Armour, Items, Magic and Weapons. Make sure to check out all the goods before deciding what you'll buy. You may well need to go GP farming as well, since it's only getting more and more expensive. Once you're ready, leave Knaya and use the Remote to call Talon, and then head south 'til you reach a bridge. Cross it, and continue to the west until you reach Mt. Hasbid. <--[08g] Rounding up the Talon Crew-----------------------------> Head left and up the ladder, and then take the next ladder upwards you find to reach a Light Stone. Go back down the last ladder and head right across the water, and then go up the ladder. Ignore the next ladder up, instead using the bridge to go towards the left-hand side. Take both ladders up to find a Cool Accessory; equip it on the character with the least HP, and then go back down the last ladder and head east across the water. Ignore the ladder and continue east to get the Missile unit. Go back to the ladder you last ignored and go up it to find the boss and the Talon Crew member you came here looking for. [%%%]BOSS: Guha [08g.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 10,100 I hope you got CureA spells for everyone, coz' you're gonna need them here. Guha hits real hard, especially with FireX, which does 200-400 damage to the entire party. Have Curtis and Gloria spam Lit2 while Faye attacks, and Arthur and Sharon are on healing duties. Be ready to cast Heal if Guha poisons or confuses one of the party. I had Earrings and Brooches on my party (one of each per character) so they were safe against Poison, but Faye got hit with it every time, which was annoying to say the least. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Open the chest to get the Durend, and equip it on Arthur immediately. It's one of the four legendary swords, so it'll be far better than virtually everything else you can get. Cast Exit to leave Mt. Hasbid and get on the Talon and then head north to the Cape Frost Cave. Talk to Shar and he'll say he'll join you if you get him the Tablet, from the South-West Ruins. Note that Buzi is now on the Talon, east of the Berth; you can buy Magic potions from him, which restore a character's MP, which is very useful, especially when preparing for a boss fight. Also, make sure to set the Talon to use the Missile weapon, since it's far stronger than the Cannon. Once in the ruins, head straight up to find the next boss. [%%%]BOSS: Dahak [08g.2][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 16,300 God I hate this guy; he has a nasty habit of paralysing people. Have Arthur pummel Dahak with the Durend, Curtis and Gloria spamming Lit2, while Sharon casts CureA every turn and Faye attacks, unless Dahak singles out one person, in which case she should cast Cure3 on them. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Once Buzi comes to free Dahak of his imprisonment, head past where he was and grab the Tablet. Head back to the Cape Frost Cave and give it to Shar, but he needs some time to study it, so head back to the ruins. Inside, go down the stairs and follow the pathway to get back up. Head left and then up, until you reach a junction; go right first to get a Light Stone, and then double-back to the left. Open the chest on the raised platform to get a Fire Stone, and then head to the right to find stairs down. Take the path to the left and go down the stairs to the first of the waterfall rooms. The aim here is to push the four rocks so that they block the four waterfalls. Numbering the rocks 1 to 4, going from left to right, this is how you do it: 1) Down, left, left, down. 3) Down, down. 4) Left, up, up, right, right, right, right, down, down, down, down 2) Left, down, right, down. Once you've done that, go back the way you came to the ground floor. Head left until you reach a wall, and then go south and left to find the Smother skill, and then up to find Wizard Body Armour. From there, head south, east, south and then west to a set of stairs. Go along the right-hand path and take the stairs down to the second waterfall room. Going from left to right, starting at the top, number the rocks 1 to 4 like so: 1 2 3 4 4) Down, down, left, left, down. 1) Down, down, down, down, left, down. 2) Right, right, down, down, down, down, down. 3) Left, down, down, down, right, right, right, down. Leaving the waterfall room, head north then east to find a Drain sword, and then go west and then south, ignoring the stairs for the moment, to find a Warm Accessory, before returning to the stairs you should have spotted. Welcome to the final waterfall room, and this one is nasty, no doubt about it. 1 4 2 3 1) Down, down, left, down, down, down. 2) Down, down, left, down, down. 3) Left, left. 4) Left, down, right, down four 3) Up, right, right, down, right, down, down, down, left, left, down. Once you've done that, the party will leave the ruins, and the sea, or lake or whatever, will drain, leaving a desert behind. Get on the Talon and use the Berth before heading north. You'll get sucked into a sandstorm, where you'll find the next boss. [%%%]BOSS: Jorgandr [08g.3][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 4,000 "4,000 HP? That it? Oh, this'll be so easy!" That's what you're thinking, right? HAH! Jorgandr is a right tough sod; he hits very hard and has uber defence. Spam Lit2 and have Arthur attack every round, since he should easily outdamage everyone else. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Unfortunately, the crash has totally destroyed the Talon, except for the Units. Buzi heads to the Cape Frost Cave to join Shar, telling you to head north to Talonsburg, so do as he says. Upon entering Talonsburg, enter the big building and you'll find Dr. Quacer. Talk to him and he'll attack the units to the Talon2; go into the small room to the left to get the Hover and Shield units. Once aboard the Talon2, go back to the Cape Frost Cave to recruit Shar and get Buzi back. Inside, head straight north to the castle, and talk to Juba; he'll join you on the Talon2. Next, talk to King Clamin; he'll tell you he'll only give you the Pass Key to the underworld if you have the Excalibur. Head to the left and get the Laser unit to the right for a Calm Potion, before leaving Cirrus and checking with Juba what equip you can buy/make from him. Next, head south-east to a small cave, containing a Sun Sword, a Cure3 Potion and a Light Stone, and then head north of Cirrus to find another cave. It has the exact same layout, but the chests are in different positions; this cave contains a Dark Stone, a Light Stone and a Light Body Armour. There's one more cave for us to visit before heading to Zhakal; this one's located south-west of Darius, this time containing an Elixir, a Fire Stone, and a Poison Claw. Returning to Darius, head north to find Zhakal. Inside, head straight north to find where the Xcalibr is embedded; Faye will draw it out, so equip it on Sharon. Go into the eastern-most house, and talk to Masa; he's the last of the old Talon crew members, and is a blacksmith. Check the two chests in the south-west corner of the house to get an Elixir and a Light Stone. <--[08h] Going to Hell------------------------------------------> Now that you have the Xcalibr, head back to Cirrus and talk to King Clamin again. He'll now give you the Pass Key, so our next destination is Porle, which is west of Zhakal. Talk to the fish thingy guarding the portal, and he'll let you through. Next, Dion emerges and joins the party as Faye leaves to wait aboard the Talon. Head down into the portal and get ready for one nasty area. In the Underworld, there are six mushrooms you can enter, all to the west of where you entered. Numbering them 1 to 6, goin from right to left, here are the contents: 1) Heal Square. 2) Cure3 Potion. 3) Magic Potion. 4) Dark Stone. 5) Dark Stone, Emblem. 6) Heal Square. Make sure you at least get both Dark Stones and the Emblem, one of the ingredients of the Emperor sword. Once you've done that, head north of mushrooms 1 and 2, to find a cave. The dark floor is toxic, so make sure to jump over it as much as possible. Start by heading up and then right to find an entrance, that looks kinda like an open snake's mouth. Head up and then right to get a Light Stone, and then continue through the wall to find a Samurai Helmet. Head back left until you reach a path going south. Follow it and get into the portal; walk as far north as you can and then go right into the wall, which'll take you to another chest containing a Dark Stone. Grab the E-Ray unit south of that and then go back to the portal. From here, head right and then up to get a Cure3 Potion, before going back south and then east. Use the portal and follow the path around to find the Muramas sword, but don't equip it, since it's cursed. Trace your path back to the first room of the cave. Head south-east to find a tower; enter to get a Cure3 Potion, and then head south-east again to find a tower containing Oil. The final tower is in the bottom-right corner, containing an Elixir. North-west of that is the exit. Head west then north, to find the Underworld Town. Upon entering, cast Morph to take the appearance of a Dwelg. Grab the new spells from the shop, and get ten Nukes, they'll be really useful a bit later. Go into the northern-most building and talk to the Boss Dwelg there, he'll let you past the Guard Dwelg in the West Tower, which is your next destination. You're probably going to have to go GP farming again to raise the cash needed for all the spells, equip and Nukes, so do so. When you're ready, leave the town and head west to a pair of twin towers. Now, this place is confusing as hell. Each tower has four floors, but there's also a switch in the tower that reverses gravity, meaning the floor becomes the ceiling, and vice versa. Therefore, there are actually sixteen rooms in the two towers, not counting the linking passageways. Assuming the first tower you enter is Tower A, here's how to get through the place: 1a) Go straight up to the next floor. 2a) Go straight up to the next floor. 3a) Go straight up to the next floor. 4a) Open the chest to get the Vulkan Cannon and then go back down a floor. 3a) Go through the door, leading to the other tower. 3b) Take the stairway going up. 4b) Take the Dark Stone and then go back down a floor. 3b) Now take the stairway going down. 2b) Go straight down to the next floor. 1b) Take the Cure3 porion and then go up to the next floor. 2b) Go straight up to the next floor. 3b) Step on the switch, reversing gravity. 3bg) Take the stairs in the upper-left corner of the room. 2bg) Go through the door at the bottom of the room, leading to the other tower. 2ag) Take the stairs in the bottom-right corner of the room. 1ag) Take the Fire Stone and then go back up to the next floor. 2ag) Take the stairs in the upper-left corner of the room. 3ag) Go straight up to the next floor. 4ag) Take the Crystal and then cast exit. Finally out of there, head northwest until you find the Guard Dwelg. Morph and talk to it, and it'll unblock the ladder back to the Upperworld, coming out in the town of Donmac. <--[08i] Breaking the Barrier-----------------------------------> Go into the south-eastern house and talk to the man there; he'll give you the Katana, the final piece of the Emperor. Go back into the Underworld and make your way to Porle. Exit and board the Talon, and talk to Masa twice, to get the Muramas uncursed into the Masmune, and to make the Emperor. Equip them on Curtis and Gloria, and we're pretty much all set to kick everything's arse. Back in Donmac, rest at the inn, and then leave. Head to the south-east and you'll find the Eastern Ruins. Inside, head to the right to get a Scarf Accessory, and then double back to go left. Follow the path and grab the Light Stone before heading to the right. Talk to Borgin, and he'll let you through to the stairs. Head right and then down to get a Magic Potion, before going up. Follow the path around the outside of the room to some stairs leading down to the next floor. Head right via the upper path, and follow it around to find a Dark Stone, before doubling back and taking the lower path this time. Follow the path around, but don't go up the ladder, instead using the stairs to teh south to get back to the previous floor. Check south to find another Dark Stone, and then go back to the bottom floor. Take the ladder and follow the path around to the boss. [%%%]BOSS: Agron [08i.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 28,000 This is the first fight where Arthur and Sharon are actually more useful than Curtis and Gloria; make sure Arthur and Sharon have the stronger two legendary swords equipped; Masmune and Xcalibr, and have them attack every turn. Then, you can either have both Curtis and Gloria casting CureA every turn, or one of them attacking with a legendary sword while the other casts CureB every turn. This fight is meant to be difficult, but at level 30, I owned the hell out of him without even breaking a sweat. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Open the chest Agron leaves behind and then use exit to leave the ruins, before using the remote to call Talon. Attach the Soar unit and fly to the cave to the north-west of Mt. Goht, to find a Fire Stone, a Light Stone, and a Ribbon. Leave and fly south to the last of the identical caves; this one contains a Dark Stone, a Fire Stone and Metal. Get back on the Talon and talk to Juba; he'll make the Aegis Shield with the Metal and Oil you should now have. When you're ready, fly to Mt. Goht. <--[08j] The Final Battle---------------------------------------> Make your way through Mt. Goht until you reach the top of the mountain. Step on the Healing Square there and Talon will burst in, blowing the crap out of the mountain, revealing Xagor's Lair. Once inside, head to the right, and then down to a set of stairs to the next floor. Go around the u-bend to find a Light Stone and then jump down a hole to get back to the first floor. Head to the north end of the pool to get out, and then go left to a staircase. Take it and push the button to the right, and then continue on to the right, going downwards when you get the chance. Jump over the holes to get the two Ribbon Accessories, and then use the stairs in the north wall. Follow the path along to the right to get an Elixir potion, and then go back down a floor. Jump down into the top-right corner of the four-cell square hole in the center of the room, to land on the raised island in the pool. Take one step up onto the warp to get to the basement. Bearing in mind that the electricity here hurts you if you step on it, head as far north as you can go and then head left, following the path around. Ignore both staircases (the first one leads out of the castle, the second to an empty room) and continue along the outside until you reach a junction. Head south to find the last Ribbon Accessory, and then go back to the junction. Head to the right this time and you'll find the penultimate boss. Make sure that you have all of the legendary swords and ribbons equipped on your characters, though you can pretty much ignore Borgin =P [%%%]BOSS: Balor [08j.1][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 34,000 Have Arthur and Sharon attack, while Curtis and Gloria switch between casting Flare and CureB; probably best to have one stick to casting Flare, and the other casting CureB. Have Borgin mop up the HP difference with CureA or casting White. [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] Once Balor's defeated (which bloody well took long enough), it's time to stop Xagor from merging with Sol! Go up the stairs Balor was guarding and then walk through the wall in the little cul-de-sac just to the left of the stairs to get a Nuke Bomb. At this point, I suggest using Exit and getting your MP back before continuing on. Go back to the first room and head up the stairs to the next floor. Follow the path around for the next two floors, and you'll finally reach open air again. Make your way to the center to find... [%%%]BOSS: Sol [08j.2][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 39,000 Uh... yeah, Sol. The guy you've been trying to save for almost half of the game is who you now need to beat the crap out of. Since he doesn't attack back, don't waste your MP or Nuke Bombs. Just pummel him until he loses control and Xagor takes over... [%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] [%%%]BOSS: Xagor [08j.3][%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%] HP: 50,000 Xagor comes in several stages; its basic attack pattern doesn't change, but its appearance does change, ragged gashes appearing, not to mention the arrival of the Talon2 to aid you in battle. Basically though, Xagor is easy. Have Arthur and Sharon attack with their legendary swords, Curtis and Gloria casting Flare while Borgin heals everyone up. This will take a while, but it's really not too difficult. of the game I am particularly knowledgeable about, however, since Devin Morgan removed his FFL3 FAQ from GameFAQS, he has allowed me to adapt parts of it for this FAQ, including this section on transformations. In the universe of FFL3, there are six different Species: Humans, Mutants, Beasts, Monsters, Cyborgs and Robots. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, and any of the party members can transform into any of the six Species. » Humans increase their stats with both equipment and level. » Mutants are much the same, but are far better at magic, hence having more MP than Humans, but they are also weaker at physical attacks. » Beasts stats are raised by level and by eating the meat of stronger beasts to further transform. They are best equipped with Skills, as opposed to normal weapons. » Monsters stats are fixed, including HP and MP, and can only be increased by eating the meat of stronger monsters. They cannot use weapons, but they are adept at magic, and also have the innate skills of the type of monster they are. » Cyborgs stats are increased by equipment and the installation of other parts. Equipping Weapons and Shields will increase their Attack and HP, whilst adding Helmets and Body Armour will suppliment their Defence and HP. Gloves and Boots increase MP and HP. When a character turns into a Cyborg, they only keep about 30% of their HP and MP, 70% of the Attack, Agility and Magic, and 20% of their Defence. » Robots rely upon Parts bought in stores and the installation of parts from stronger robots. All of their base stats are lowered when turned into a Robot, and they cannot use Magic, except for Dive and Float. To change into the different Species, a character must either eat the Meat left by an enemy, or install the left over Parts, discovered after winning a random battle. The resulting race is determined by what Species the character currently is, and whether it is Meat or a Part that is causing the change. The diagram below shows the order of progression; eating Meat will move the character one Species to the left, and installing a Part will move the character one Species to the right. Monster <---> Beast <---> Human / Mutant <---> Cyborg <---> Robot However, within the four "enemy" Species (Monster, Beast, Cyborg and Robot), there are many sub-species. To find out which of the sub-species the character will turn into, three things needs to be taken into account: the Element of the character (their base Element if Human/Mutant, or the Element of the "enemy" Sub-Species they are), the Element of the enemy from which the part or Meat came from, and the level of the character.
