As a one-ship operation, you have to free six countries from the terrorists' grasp to win the game: to do this, you must visit a port at each of the six countries and destroy all the guns on the port in a shooting mini-game to 'liberate' the country. However, you will not be able to liberate any countries right away. First, you must upgrade the shields on your ships, as well as the amount of torpedos you can carry into your mission. You can also purchase one-time use 'supershot' missiles which can send a wave of destruction out in its wake. To do so, you must play through four other mini-games. These mini-games will be on the map next to each port in the form of boats, with different icons to represent each mini-game. Each boat icon will have a number of stars from 1 star to 4 stars under it, indicating the difficulty of that specific mini-game: 1 being the easiest, 4 being the most difficult, with the harder games awarding more points if won. You should slowly build up your points and buy shields and extra torpedos whenever you have the points, as if you lose a mini-game, your points stockpile will be wiped out. When you go to finally take on a port, you should bring at least a couple of Supershot missiles, if not three or four. At the start of the game, the country you choose as your host will have its port liberated already. Follow the Go cursor to the next country. Press A to open up the Points shop, B to open up the map of the world, and Start to be able to save your game. Three cruisers will swim by left to right (or occasionally right to left) on the screen. Each of them shall be different distances away from your cruiser, and each of them will swim by at varying speeds. Obviously, you will have to learn the timing for when to shoot torpedoes out. You should eliminate the closest cruiser right off the bat, as this is the easiest one to destroy, and at the same time the biggest nuisance (as you can see torpedoes from the other two ships coming a long time before they actually hit the bottom of the screen). After, figure out the timing for the other two ships, and send three or more torpedos out at once - even if one or two miss, many more will hit home. Carrier Conflict ---------------- In this, you will start off with several fighter jets flying overhead your own ship, attempting to dump their payloads of bombs on you. Fire off torpedos at each of them in turn: they go down relatively easy (only requiring one torpedo each on one-star mode). After all of them are destroyed, however, you should go down deeper underwater. This is because a cruiser ship will shortly thereafter cross the water, and if you are close to the surface, you are less likely to be able to dodge a bomb dropped by the cruiser ship than if you stay deep. Shoot out several torpedos as it crosses by: unlike the planes, the cruiser takes several hits to destroy. Submarine Strategies -------------------- In Submarine Strategies, you are underwater in a static screen that does not move around. Four enemy submarines are also hanging around, and they will move up, down, left, right, all around the map. Fortunately, the enemy submarines really do not try to even target your ship (chalk this one up to lazy developers). As a result, you need not worry about taking damage much, so stalk one submarine at a time, and shoot torpedoes at it until it is destroyed to clear it off the screen, and then focus on the next foe. Another thing you can do is ram into ships directly. It only knocks off one of your shields every time you hit a foe, so you can try touching a sub to destroy it (it may take several ramming hits) instead of trying to shoot it with the sluggish shooting system. Battleship Tactics ------------------ In this mode, you are given an over-the-shoulder view against the port side of a battleship. There are several guns on the battleship: you must go from left to right and shoot at each gun until they explode, leaving behind an animation of the guns being on fire. At the same time, you will need to dodge torpedos when a guncannon fires it at you: be careful, as the torpedos can veer in a curve instead of going straight. Throughout the battle, you may also notice a small ship going left to right. You cannot destroy this ship and it cannot harm you: however, you should watch out as it will drop explosive fluids on the water surface, igniting mini- flames. Stay out of the way of fires on the water until the fire goes out before moving. Port Destruction ---------------- Port Destruction is rather similar to Battleship Tactics, in that you have an over-the-shoulder view and you must destroy multiple guns on the port. However, the guns are significantly stronger and reinforced in comparison to those in Battleship Tactics, then the torpedos are far more likely to veer and converge on your submarine. Most guns are likely to shoot in a pattern of left, center, and right of their location. As a result, you should try not to come in to any of the port battles until you have at least 11 Shields, 55-60 Torpedos, and at least two Supershots on hand. Even if you do not get shot, without that quantity of ammunition, you will likely run out before you can finish off the guns. Where possible, try to aim the Supershot between the center of two clustered guns to destroy both of them with a single shot. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Donations/Amazon -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ [DONT] I don't really care too much about donations, but if you are feeling generous, feel free to send one via PayPal to gammabetaalphafaqs AT gmail DOT com Alternatively, if you ever order any items from Amazon.com, go to the link below. I write FAQs for plenty of obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even better, a manual) is superior to not.
