For some odd reason, the button mashing for the running events does not work as it should on emulators, causing the on-screen avatar to only build up to about one quarter of his maximum speed. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Modes -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ [MODE] One Player ---------- Lets you play through all the events on your own, and continues until you fail to qualify for an event. Two Player ---------- Lets two players play events, one after the other. Each player plays until they fail to qualify at an event. Play Some Events ---------------- This allows you to choose the order of events to be done in One Player and Two Player, up to 15 events, and you can repeat the same event more than once. Your new order only lasts until you turn the game off. Practise Events --------------- Lets you choose one event specifically to play and practice at. Two Player Special ------------------ Like the Two Player mode, but you each play through all events, regardless of if you fail to qualify for an event. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Events -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ [EVNT] Most events in this game involve some form of running and jumping or throwing. For running, press A + B repeatedly to build up speed. When jumping and throwing, press and hold down a D-Pad button, and it will open up a gauge with an angle meter. Once the angle hits to about 45 degrees, let go. You will want 45 degrees because this is the most 'efficient' angle to gain the longest distance possible. Once again, note that playing with an emulator makes the game virtually unplayable. ---------------- 100 QBits Sprint ---------------- Qualifying Time: 26:00s Record Time: 20:00s Your basic 'running' race, 100 QBits Sprint is straightforward running. Press the A and B button in tandem to make your on-screen avatar run more quickly. ---------- Laser Leap ---------- Qualifying Time: 28:00s Record Time: 21:00s This is the equivalent of the 110 meter hurdles. Press the A and B button in tandem to make your on-screen avatar run more quickly. Any of the D- Pad buttons will be sufficient to make your avatar jump - the precise time you should jump is when your slug-creature is aligned with the last digit on the distance signs. Be careful, as if you hit a laser (hurdle) you will lose all of your running speed, and shall have to build up acceleration again. ---------- Big Bounce ---------- Qualifying Distance: 15:00Q Record Distance: 20:00Q The 'long jump' equivalent of Alien Olympics, where you get three jumps for the longest distance. In the beginning of each jump, you get to run for 20Q to build up distance. Press the A and B button in tandem to make your on-screen avatar run more quickly. At the end of the 20Q, there will be a cut-off line where you must press any of the D-Pad buttons to make your avatar jump. As soon as you jump, there will be a gauge starting at 0 degrees (straight east) that quickly goes up to 90 degrees. Press A or B right at 45 degrees for the optimal angle. ------------- Laser Skeet I ------------- Qualifying Points: 5000P Record Points: 8000P Laser Skeet I is a primitive form of hunting games. Your screen is vertically split into two halves, with ghosts, bats and UFOs coming out of the sides of the screen (mostly the right end), going to the middle of the screen, going into the other half and then going out the opposite end. You have a cursor on each side of the screen, the left one being controlled by the B button and the right one being controlled by the A button. When a target is approximately horizontally aligned with a cursor, fire with that cursor's laser to hit the target. If you make a miss shot with a laser, that one will not work for one second, so try not to become too frazzled when you get flooded with targets later on. More importantly, keep an eye on how much each target is worth - the ghosts are worth 100 points, the bat-shaped creatures are 200 points, and the UFOs are 500 points. ------- Splurge ------- Qualifying Time: 45:00s Record Time: 32:00s Splurge is a 200m swimming race - 100m from end to end of a pool, then 100m going back. Press the A and B button in tandem while in the water to gain acceleration and then keep a constant speed. Press any D-Pad button to make your character go underneath the water. Keep a careful spot on where your position is in the water - if you surface or hit the deep depth of the pool, either of these will destroy your speed, forcing you to take several precious seconds to build up speed again. ----------- Lunge Splat ----------- Qualifying Distance: 38:00Q Record Distance: 45:00Q Alien Olympic's 'Triple Jump', Lunge Splat starts exactly the same as Big Bounce. In the beginning of each jump, you get to run for 20Q to build up distance. Press the A and B button in tandem to make your on-screen avatar run more quickly. At the end of the 20Q, there will be a cut-off line where you must press any of the D-Pad buttons to make your avatar jump. As soon as you jump, there will be a gauge starting at 0 degrees (straight east) that quickly goes up to 90 degrees. Press A or B right at 45 degrees for the optimal angle. Where Lunge Splat is different from Big Bounce is that you perform two additional jumps. After the first jump, DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTONS. Instead, as soon as you land the first time, you will get the angle gauge again, so go for 45 degrees once more, and again do not press the buttons. Try for 45 degrees on the angle with your last jump. ---------- Toxophilly ---------- Qualifying Points: 2000P Record Points: 3800P Toxophilly is an archery game. You are put on a top-down view, with your character on the left side. On the right side, another alien will push an archery target from the bottom up. This is where it gets a little screwy - although you are on a top-down view, you are still hitting a '3-D' target, as shown by the archery board on the lower left corner of the screen. To hit closer to the center of the board, you need to press A or B to string up your arrow, then hold A or B for a very slight amount of time to increase the angle of your shot before releasing. Points go 200-400-600-800-1000 the closer to the center you get, and you get 5 shots in total. --------- Flob Flop --------- Qualifying Distance: 26:00Q Record Distance: 30:00Q The shotput equivalent of Alien Olympics, at the beginning of each of the three throws you get, you will be in a blue square. Press A and B in tandem to build up speed, but do NOT go outside of the blue square. Once you feel you have sufficient speed, press and hold down on a D-Pad button to open up an angle gauge. Once you get to about 45 degrees, let go of the D-Pad button to throw. ----------- Sabre Sling ----------- Qualifying Distance: 55:00Q Record Distance: 70:00Q Sabre Sling is the javelin equivalent of Alien Olympics. Like Flob Flop, you get an area to build up speed in first by pressing A and B, but you get 20Q instead of a short box at the beginning. Once you feel you have sufficient speed, press and hold down on a D-Pad button to open up an angle gauge. Once you get to about 45 degrees, let go of the D-Pad button to throw. -------- Survival -------- Qualifying Time: 45:00s Record Time: 3:00m Survival takes place in a top-down maze, with a tiny UFO avatar. The maze itself moves around on the screen, changing directions every so often, and so you must move your UFO so it does not get crushed against the edge of a screen by a maze wall. There are also robots patrolling around - these are the square-shaped objects. Avoid the robots, and grab the following powerups whenever you see them. (I) - Makes you temporarily invincible for about 5 seconds (S) - Slows down the maze Clock - Adds 30 seconds onto your survival time Shield (black stripe) - Makes you invincible against robots for a short time Triangle - Stops the maze ---------- Alien Hurl ---------- Qualifying Distance: 30:00Q Record Distance: 48:00Q Alien Hurl is just another variation of Flob Flop, with one small difference: your robot avatar will move at the difference, but then stop. During this time, press A and B in tandem to build up speed. Once you feel you have sufficient speed, press and hold down on a D-Pad button to open up an angle gauge. Once you get to about 45 degrees, let go of the D-Pad button to throw. -------------- Laser Skeet II -------------- Qualifying Points: 6500P Record Points: 15000P Laser Skeet II is more like Whack-A-Mole than anything else. The game takes place on a flat 2D plane with several holes in the field. There will be three types of heads that will pop out of the hole - large heads, worth 50 points, small heads, worth 100 points, and the small black heads, worth 200 points. Move your cursor around using the D-Pad and fire at the heads with the A or B button. Sometimes, you will see a large alien crossing the screen - get these guys as well, as they are worth 1000 points each. ----------- Jetpack Tag ----------- Qualifying Time: 3:00m Record Time: 2:00m Jetpack Tag is one of only a couple of original games in Alien Olympics, though it is still very short. You are put in a spaceship, and you fly around a small amount of space, looking for 12 pods. Only one pod will appear on screen at a time, and its direction will be indicated to you by the arrow on the lower bar. At the same time, you must pay attention to your fuel and temperature. Your fuel slowly runs out as you fly around, and there are two enemy spaceships that will constantly tail you, draining your fuel out. To refuel, you must go to any of the stations with an F on it. If your temperature hits maximum, it will slow the ship down - stop the ship completely to make the temperature slowly decrease. ----------- Lizard Leap ----------- Qualifying Distance: 5:00Q Record Distance: 7:50Q Lizard Leap is somewhat similar to Pole Vaulting, with a bit of a twist. At the beginning, you get 20Q to run and build up speed. Before the marker cut- off, you must press any of the D-Pad buttons and hold it down, then release it once you get a good angle. Where it varies from pole vaulting is that you are not trying to get above a certain height, but rather you are trying to jump into the alien creature's mouth. The lowest distance you can get into it is 5Q off the ground, and the highest is 7.50Q. --------- Wall Jump --------- Qualifying Distance: 10:00Q Record Distance: 17:00Q Wall Jumping is fairly simple - at the beginning, you get 20Q to run and build up speed by pressing A and B in tandem. Just before the end mark, press and hold a D-Pad button to open up the angle gauge, then let go at 45 degrees to sail into the air.
