These new controls will be listed within the main walkthrough. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.2 ABOUT THE GAME A popular search engine will easily lead you to a famous "pedia" should you want more information on anything related to Bubblegum Crash, the game or the anime it is based on. This guide is based on an English translation. The homepage for this translation is: http://projects.mattsmessyroom.com/bubblegumcrash/ Thanks to filler for permission to link. If the site is down or ceases to exist then a search for "Bubblegum Crash translation" will most likely lead you to the patch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.3 ABOUT THIS GUIDE This guide will be focused on getting the player through the game and because of this you may miss out on portions of dialogue that would normally fill in more of the story. You should at all times feel free to use TALK, LOOK or whatever on anything in each scene and see what happens before carrying on. I have attempted to find a balance between: Making the guide a list of actions required to get through each scene, as this would be hard to follow or to pick up part way through should you not wish to follow the whole thing parrot fashion OR exhaustively typing out ALL the dialogue as this would result in a bloated overly long guide making it difficult to just get the help you actually want. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.4 MAIN WALKTHROUGH In this guide words in caps like THIS reference the same option from the interface menu. You won't have another chance to save for a while! HEAR once more and he will tell you where 1 of the last 2 parts are kept. LOCATION: Cut scenes The scene will then change to Nene having a phone conversation with Priss. Nene will ask priss to go to Zone Co. with her and prevent the theft of the 3rd AI part. A brief cut scene will appear showing the theft of the 3rd AI part which is then interrupted by Leon and the A.D Police. Leon, in his AD Police armoured suit, will be challenged by the leader of the group to single combat. LOCATION: COMBAT Leon VS Land (UNWINNABLE FIGHT) Welcome to the first combat section of the game. This plays out like a simple menu driven turn based RPG. Your opponent on the top left and your current character on the top right. In the horizontal line in the centre of the screen there are 2 purple bars, each representing the health of the character they are under. On the bottom half where the dialogue normally is are your combat options. For this fight you only have 2 options, Close combat and Shooting. More importantly, this fight is unwinnable so pick whatever you like until you are defeated. After the fight Nene will get Priss to pursue one of the armoured suits using her motorcycle. LOCATION: MOTORCYCLE CHASE Controls: Left - Left Right - Right This is the one and only chase sequence in the game. For this sequence the top half of the screen is a first person view from Priss's motorcycle. The lower half is still the regular text box but is unused here. The aim here is to pursue the armoured suit down several sections of highway until you catch him. Whilst in pursuit you can position yourself on the left, right or centre of the road. The armoured suit will launch missiles at the same 3 spots in the road. A single hit will cause Priss to ditch and crash the bike resulting in a game over. You can however press button one to retry from the beginning of the chase. Dodge early because until you are complete in the next lane a missile can still hit you. The best way to dodge multiple missiles is to turn towards one as it is about to disappear. At the end of a section of highway the enemy will pull ahead and disappear. You then get arrows on the left and right of the screen prompting you to choose a direction. You can crash here if you take too long to make a choice. Choose by positioning the motorcycle in the left or right lane. Sometimes you will be presented with an empty section of highway. When this happens just drive to the end and pick left or right again. You will need to survive a number of sections of highway whilst pursuing the armoured suit to complete the chase. In my play throughs this has taken between 3-7 sections. LOCATION: Highway overview Controls: Directions - Highlight section of path Button 1 - Select current section, swap section Button 2 - Cancel Selection In this final minigame the screen is divided into a grid of squares. These squares contain un-traversable sections of water, rubble or pieces of road. The pieces of road all have yellow lines on representing paths that Priss and the armoured suit can walk on. The objective is to have Priss reach the suit. You achieve this by moving the position of the pieces of road. To select a piece of road highlight it so that it flashes yellow, hit button 1 then highlight an adjacent piece of road or water to swap their positions. Sections of rubble cannot be moved. Priss will automatically try and move towards the armoured suit. The armoured suit will try to run away and will occasionally turn a piece of road into rubble. If you move the road in such a way that the armoured suit reaches open water it will cause a game over. Going over the time limit of 180 seconds will also cause a game over. Getting a game over here will return you to the start of this minigame. LOCATION: Unknown Highway The game now returns to the regular interface with you playing as Priss. You are now confronted with the armoured suit you spent the last 2 mini games chasing. HEAR and the suits user will keep quiet. TALK to threaten him then select USE. Priss will crash her bike into the suit destroying it and killing the owner. The scene will show the crash and the suit exploding. Then Nene will arrive and take the leftover wreckage for the investigation acquiring "Part C" and "Part D" LOCATION: A.D Police Building Nene will suggest taking the parts to the factory for further investigation. The game will take you to the map screen. LOCATION: Map Industrial Area - Factory District LOCATION: Factory - Security checkpoint TALK to the guard and you will be taken to the factory interior LOCATION: Factory - Interior TALK to the foreman and he will call for the operator. TALK to the operator then use PUT to show her "Part D". She will inform you that it comes from a H-244 boomer that is now illegal to manufacture. TALK to her again then use GOTO. Nene will say that Takii might have more information and return to the map screen. LOCATION: Map Slum Street - Slum Street 2 LOCATION: Slum Street 2 Takii will already be here when you arrive. HEAR, TALK 3 times then HEAR again. Takii will tell you about the illegal factory in the slum district. He will ask that you don't bring in the police to shut down the place and you will get a Yes or No choice in your dialogue. Regardless of how you answer, Takii will make Nene promise to keep quiet and then take you there. LOCATION: Illegal Factory LOOK and go on in LOCATION: Illegal Factory - Interior TALK to the old man 4 times. He will say nothing. Select GOTO. LOCATION: Illegal Factory Use LOOK and Takii will come back. TALK and then HEAR. Takii will tell you that the factory owner will only talk to you if you start off by saying the model number of the boomer you are interested in. LOOK and go back inside. LOCATION: Illegal Factory - Interior You will be presented with 4 options for the password. Select H-244. The old man will now speak with you. HEAR then TALK and you will be given a "Data File" about the H-244 boomer. Nene will now go to the A.D Police building to investigate. LOCATION: A.D Police - Super Computer MOVE the switch, USE the "ADP Badge" on the screen then MOVE the bottom panel. WARNING: SAVE HERE! This is the last chance you get to save your game before attempting to reach the end. USE the "Data File". Nene will be contacted by Sylia who will ask you to meet with her, Linna and Priss at Sylia's store. LOCATION: Sylia's Store After a brief misunderstanding, Priss, Linna, Nene and Sylia will engage in a long conversation concerning the recent bank robberies. Between them, they all go over the information learned so far i.e. the illegal army behind the robberies lead by Colonel Land and that they are after the advanced AI developed by Zone Co. Sylia will say that the fourth and final part of the AI is at Stephan Lab. The Knight Sabers suit up and head out. LOCATION: Stephen Lab This is the final section of the game. From here until the ending sequence the game plays like a first person dungeon crawler, minus the RPG elements (no exp, no items). You have to navigate your way around the 2 floors of Stephen Lab until you can access the elevator that takes you to the final battle against Colonel Land. Controls are: Left - Turn left Right - Turn right Up - Step forward Just walk into a door to go through. As you move around the corridors of the Lab random battles against various armoured suits will occur, with the same setup as the Leon battle scene earlier. During these battles you can select 1 of the 4 Knight Sabers from the portraits in the dialogue box to fight against your current enemy. After selecting a character you then engage in a turn based fight until the enemy is defeated or 1 of the Knight Sabers is defeated. If one of your characters is killed then its game over. If you take too long to select an action, the enemy will get a free turn. In battle, Priss, Linna, Nene and Sylia each have 3 commands at their disposal. Priss, Linna and Sylia: Close Combat - Melee attack Shooting - Various ranged weapons, 1 per character Change - Send a different character into battle Nene: Sensor - Reduces opponents accuracy and increases your damage briefly Shooting Change In battle you can change characters freely without penalty. In fact it is recommended that you swap character every 2-3 attacks as consecutive attacks from the same character usually yield less damage each time and each Knight Saber has low health compared to your opponents. All 4 characters get fully healed after every fight. LABYRINTH DIRECTIONS To complete the labyrinth you must find the 4 security switches in the monitoring rooms, 1 on the first floor and 3 on floor 2. Each of the elevators on the first floor lead to a different closed off section of floor 2. Each of the sections on floor 2 have their own Monitoring room/security switch. WARNING: I have tried to make these directions as clear as possible, but I suggest you save yourself a lot of trouble and use the map images which should hopefully also be hosted with this guide. FLOOR 1 From the starting point turn right, then turn right again at the next two junctions and go all the way to the end and enter the room. This is the first monitoring room (1/4). The Knight Sabers will deactivate the switch and leave. Take the corridor back until you reach a turning point. Go forward, turn left when forced to and take the quick right turn. Go forward until you have to turn left again. Go forward and take the 2nd left and enter the door on the right. This should be a warehouse with the elevator switch which will allow you access to the 3 elevators to floor 2 After activating the elevators turn left, go to the end and turn left again. Now go forwards and take the 2nd left then the first right. You should see 2 doors opposite each other. The door on the right is an elevator. Use it and go to floor 2. FLOOR 2 Left 1st, then turn right down the side corridor and follow that around to monitoring room 2/4. Now return to the elevator and floor 1. FLOOR 1 Turn left then face right. Take the 5th left turn, follow the corridor until you can turn right. This corridor has 3 doors. Move forwards, there should be a door to the left and another on the right further down. This 2nd door is the next elevator. Head up to floor 2 again. FLOOR 2 Head left then turn left. Follow the corridor and the door on the left wall is monitoring room 3/4. Now go back to the first floor. FLOOR 1 Head right then take the left turn. Take the 2nd left turn and the first door on the right is the elevator. Use it and go to floor 2. FLOOR 2 Turn left and go forwards. Don't turn unless you have to. You will reach a corridor with 3 doors on the right wall. The second door contains monitoring room 4/4. The final boss room is now open. Return to the elevator and carry on past it. Follow the LONG corridor until you reach a crossroad. Turn right then right again. Turn left next (right is an immediate dead end if you want to check you are in the correct place) walk past the empty lab on the right wall and take the right turn. Go either way here as both lead to the final elevator and the last boss battle. BOSS FIGHT - Colonel Land No special tactics here. Just remember to swap characters often, vary your attacks and hope he goes down before you lose someone. If you die here you will have to redo all of Stephen Lab. GOOD LUCK. And that's the end of the game. Land speaks his last, Leon and Daley arrive to clean up, notice the Knight Sabers calling card and then the credits roll. The credits end with the unfulfilled promise, TO BE CONTINUED. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.5 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND THANKS AIC, Artmic and Youmex for making Bubblegum Crisis and Crash Naxat Soft for making the game Filler, Dave Shadoff and Tomaitheous for making the fan translation patch, without which this guide would have been impossible.
