------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------[ VIDEOCART 14: SONAR SEARCH ]----------------------- ---------------------------------[by Ice Queen Zero]--------------------------- ------------------------------------[Channel F]-------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o---------------------o INTRODUCTION o---------------------o You would have to be living under a rock if you don't recognize this game... Well, I mean the game this is based off of. Does the board game, Battleship, ring a bell? Instead of pegs, you will use your sonar to search random spots in the field. If you are playing this using the MESS emulator and you don't know the actual controls of the system, I will tell you the buttons to press on the emulator. As you can see, I've contributed a lot of screenshots to the system itself with the MESS. I'm playing this on the actual console itself. o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Videocart 14: Sonar Search and its characters are trademarks of Fairchild and all copyrights belong to them. You are looking to sink the opponent's five ships before yours get sunk. o---------------------o CONTROLS o---------------------o Console and Controller 1 - Play alone 2 - 2 player game Plunge Down = Search Joystick = Move cursor into that direction MESS EMULATOR 1 - Play alone 2 - 2 player game Button 1 (Plunge Down) = Search Arrows = Move cursor into that direction o---------------------o GAMEPLAY o---------------------o 1-player game There are five ships to locate but you a given a random number of shots to win the game. The five ships are: Destroy, Submarine, Cruiser, Battlewagon, and the Aircraft Carrier (aka Battleship). Each ship takes a certain amount of hits to destroy. Destroyer - 2 hits Submarine - 3 hits Cruiser - 3 hits Battlewagon - 4 hits Aircrat Carrier - 5 hits The game screen is blue which I assume is either water or "nighttime darkness." Take your sonar and fire at random spots on the screen. When you fire a shot, you will see a block occur, if you manage to hit all parts of the ship then it will change into the ship itself and be considered sunken. Manage to sink all five ships and you win the game. However, failure to sink them all before all of your shots are fired, the unsunken ships will blink indicating where they were and the game is over. When a shot is missed you will hear a series of pings, the shorter the series, the warmer you are to a target. The longer the series, the colder. Use that to indicate where you need to fire. ---- 2-player game The concept is still the same except each player will get eight shots a turn on the first try and try to sink the other player's ships first. When one ship is sank, it will match the other player's color. Each subsequent turn starts the player of with random shots of no more than eight and no less than four. When all ships are sunk, the winner's ships will blink and the game ends. o---------------------o CREDITS o---------------------o Fairchild for making the game.
