This game was developed by Aprinet and published by Soft Vision. (As of now both companies are defunct, and this game seems to be the only game Aprinet ever made.) Eliminate Down is commonly labeled as a Japanese game, but the game runs on all country-specific MD/Genesis systems (In other words, JUE). Surprisingly enough it only has English text and was never translated into Japanese. The game mechanics are a bit generic, but they have lots of little details that change gameplay drastically and make it unique to the other space-shooters on the Genesis/Megadrive. Now on to the FAQ itself... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.1 ~MENU AND OPTIONS~ Booting the game starts you at a opening scene with a blueprint of your ship and it shows you it's weapon systems and neat little animations. Press start to skip this if you wish. From the title you can select "START" to begin the game, or select "CONFIG" to see options. We'll start out by explaining the options menu since a "START" button is self-explanatory: --------------------------------------------------- Here's a list of variables from the options screen: RANK: Push left/right to scroll through a list of difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard. SHIP: Push left/right to alter the amount of free ships you get when you start the game. (3-5 ships) PAD (A,B,C): Assign a command for each button using the direction pad. You can choose from "WEAPON SELECT" and "FIRE". RAPID: Push left/right to turn rapid-fire on/off. MUSIC: A BGM test. Push left/right to select a BGM and push A, B, or C to play it. S-E-: Same as "MUSIC" except it plays sound effects rather than BGMs. MINI GAME: Push A, B, or C to play the minigame. See the 2.2 - Minigame for more details. EXIT: Push A, B, or C to exit the options screen and go back to the main menu. ___________________________________________________ 2.2 Minigame You can play a minigame from the options screen. The minigame screen shows you the high score, and your previous score if you've played it before. You can select "PLAY" or "EXIT". Playing the minigame: The premise is simple but scoring is hard. Here's how you play: There's a grid in the background. Inside each grid tile is a picture of your ship. You are in control of a cursor of sorts and you must move it over activated grid tiles and push the button to destroy it temporarily and score 1 point. When a tile is activated the ship inside brightens up and rotates. You only have a limited time before it becomes disactivated again. You will need very good hand-eye-coordination to beat the high-score. ___________________________________________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.3 In-game Controls The in-game controls are relatively simple. You can pause the game with the START button, and push left/right to speed up/slow down your ship. A and C will change your weapon direction. B will fire your weapon. (If you don't like these controls you can change the functions of A,B, and C from the options screen.) You have three different weapon directions: forward, vertical, and backward, in that order. Forward shoots like this: O O O O (SHIP) O O O O Vertical shoots like this: . . . . . . (SHIP) . . . . . . And backward shoots like this: . . o o o (SHIP) . . Regardless of which directional weapon you are using, you will always fire a stream of bullets to the right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.4 POWERUPS (P)-type powerups are collected similarly to Gradius. You must shoot a row of 5 specific ships that are lined up. The last ship in the row will release the powerup when it's destroyed. You can collect the 1up and (B) powerups from a single rotating ship. The ship looks like Atomic Robo Kid if you want a more descriptive reference of what it looks like. Here's a list of different powerups: (B) - Gives you a shield. It deteriorates when in direct contact with an enemy, a bullet, or a wall. (P) - Upgrades your Vertical/Forward/Backward gun. You need to collect five of these to make one upgrade. You can upgrade a total of 2 times. (E) - Ugrades your regular gun that always shoots straight forward. Can be upgraded three times. 1up - Self explanatory. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.5 SCREEN EMULATION This is an diagram of what the in-games screen looks like. There are numbered parts in this diagram and they will be described in order below the diagram. __________________________________________________________ | + | | | | #1 + | | + | | <|---> | | o<> || |> | | <|---> | | #2 | | __ _ | | + /| |_| | | | \|_| |_| | | + | | + | | | | + | |_________________________________________________________| | | | #4 #6 | | #3 / Lv. Blue segments represent no powerup and red segments represent powerups you have. When you collect all 5 you will level up and start again with 5 blue segments. #7. Level number. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.6 HINTS & TIPS ~Surviving in this game is a high priority because of the very few amounts of 1ups you can recieve (I've gotten an average of about 3) and the difficulty level of the game. So rather than focusing on powerups and pretty backgrounds pay the most attention to bullets and enemies coming at you. ~When approaching an enemy that takes multiple hits to kill, get as close as you feel comfortable. You can save a lot of time and easily break clusters of heavily-armored enemies this way; since your guns reload and fire faster when the distance the bullets travel is shorter. ~Study the patterns and movements a boss makes before you rush in and try to destroy it. Most bosses will unprovokedly make a sudden movement or use an attack you are unfamiliar with. ~Use the directional guns to your advantage. When going backwards, use reverse shots, when traveling up or down drops use vertical shots, and use forward system when going forward. ~Even though you're heavily protected, try your hardest not to get hit even WITH a shield on. Shields are very rare and you'll need to conserve them for later levels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ________ ________ __ | || | || | | |__ __|| _ | __|| | | | || | || | |_ _ | | | || | ||_ __ | _] | ||__ __| | | || | __ || / []\\ | |__ | \\ / | | || | || || | __|| | || | ___ || | [] | |__|| |_||_|| \__// |_______|| |_| |_|| \___|_| H A P P Y S H O O T I N G ! ! ! ______________________________________________________________________________ ELIMINATE DOWN MINIBOSS/BOSS FAQ FOR GAMEFAQS BY: PIKIRBJO (PIKIRBJO@YAHOO.COM)
