It has never been released anywhere else, and it has never been remade. Will it be remade? Well, Shiren the Wanderer (Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Fuurai no Shiren) got remade on the Nintendo DS, so anything is possible. Since the game was never released anywhere else, it has never been officially translated into English. There exists a fanmade English patch for the ROM of the game. The patch consists of very poor English and the creators made many errors when changing the text, but it gives people a decent idea of what is going on in the game. The English patch can be found here: http://www.magic-destiny.com/ This document is meant to help you play through the game even without a translation patch. All of the dialog is shown to give you an idea of what is being said. If you've played this type of game, then you don't need an introduction to how the game works. The game is turn-based, done in an RPG-style of movement. Everything is done by "squares" that are used to hold a sprite. Sprites are used for things you can interact with. Each square either has a sprite occupying it, or nothing in it currently. When you take a step in the game, your sprite moves to a different square. It's very important to understand how the systems of squares works, because decisions you make in the game are based off of this. Every time you do something, all enemies on the floor will take a step (unless they are sleeping). Every time you do something, it is considered a "turn". If you've ever played a turn-based RPG (Dragon Quest/Warrior games for example), then you'll know how it works. Whenever you do something, the enemy then gets to do something. You and your enemies are the only ones that get turns. You will always get the first turn, and your enemies will always get the next turn. Some things in the game modify how turns work temporarily, and there are some enemies that don't follow this system. Each dungeon has a certain number of floors you must explore. Your goal is to get to the next floor, but you will want to fight enemies and get items along the way. If you rush deep into the dungeon, you will be easily killed by enemies farther into the dungeon. Items are acquired by stepping on them. Once stepped on, they will automatically be placed in your inventory. If your inventory is full, you simply won't pick up the items. Traps are done in a similar way: once you step on them, they are activated. Saving in the game is done automatically. When you shut the game off, it will automatically save your progress, no matter where you were. The second you turn off the game, the game will automatically save the game from the exact place you were in. This means that you can save in the middle of a dungeon. It's better to hit "End" in the menu, just to be safe. Begin Game: Starts a new game. You can have up to three save files. Copy Game: Copies an existing game file. Erase Game: Erases and existing game file. Rename Village: Allows you to rename a village contained in a game file. High Scores: Allows you to see the top ten high scores. High scores are achieved by either dying in a dungeon or leaving one. Replay: Allows you to see what you've previously done on the floor you're currently on. This only works in dungeons. Sound: Allows you to adjust the sound setting between Stereo and Mono. While in the dungeon, you will see several things on the top of the screen. Several statistics will also be displayed. This will allow you to see what you previously did on the current floor you're on. When replaying, you will not see any menus the player cycled through; you will only see what actions they took. There are a number of reasons why you might use this: -You might want to see what enemies were chasing you. -You might have dropped something and wanteto see where you left it. -You might want to recall at how good/bad of a job you did on that floor. One of the main reasons this was included was to probably show other people how you did on the floor. =============================================================================== High Scores [*b4] =============================================================================== To bring some competitiveness into this single-player game, the High Scores feature was added. This keeps a list of the top ten scores made with the cartridge. Scores are calculated with this formula: Player's gold + (value of player's items added together) = (Score) G Items brought into the dungeon will not count towards your score. The score will display in this format: 1-10: (Gold) G | (Village name) village, (how far into the dungeon, and the dungeon name), (Floor number) floor, Defeated by (enemy that killed you) *OR* Retrieved (quest item) =============================================================================== Formulas [*b5] =============================================================================== [This section isn't complete yet, as I am still experimenting with formulas.] Chance to miss: When someone is attacking, there is a chance they will miss their target. When a miss occurs, the target takes no damage and a "miss" sound is played. Nothing in the game contributes to this factor except luck. When someone is hit for damage under one, they will take zero damage; a miss will not occur because no damage was done (the game will say that zero damage was done). The average chance of missing is about 10%, meaning on average you'll miss one out of ten hits. There once was a man. His name was Taloon. He worked for Sesse at the Weapon Shop... However, Taloon had a dream. He wanted to start his own business, a large store. He wanted to have the world's greatest store. This was Taloon's dream. So he embarked on a journey. Prince Bonmoor helped Taloon by giving him Gold and other goods. Thanks to the prince, Taloon was able to own a shop in Endor. Taloon called Nene and Poporo to the store. Even the king was very pleased with the shop. However, Taloon was restless. He heard a rumor... He heard of the Mysterious Dungeon. An amazing cavern, filled with fabulous treasures. But nobody has ever returned... Drawn by the cavern's wealth...
