Sometimes, it will stiff arm, and other times it will be a speed burst. Kind of like the one-button feature in Madden '99. The manual states that the "X" button Super Tackles on Defense. This may be a glitch in the game, or just my copy of it. Please let me know if this happens when you play. Kicking: - Press "A" to stop the arrow and aim the kick. - Press "A" to stop the power meter and determine how hard you'll kick the ball. The ball will be snapped, and your kicker will begin his approach at this time. - Press "A" to determine which part of the ball you'll kick. If you kick the lower part of the ball, the kick will go high, but not very far. If you kick the upper part of the ball, it will go far, but not very high. If you do not press "A", this meter will randomly stop (does not apply to punts). - Your kicker will automatically kick the ball. - Like offense, "B" will call out "HUT" (does not apply to kickoffs) Teams: ------ There are 97 teams from Division I, Division I-AA, and Division II in Super Play Action Football. Super Play Action Football does not have the NCAA license symbol on it, so the real school names are not used. On the team selection screen, these teams are split into 6 screens. I've had a little trouble finding teams' real names, since SPAF was made before the NCAA's conference realignment. If I made a mistake, please contact me. Here are the list of teams on each screen, and the team's real name. ------------------- | | | | | 1 | 2 | 3 | | | | | ------------------- | | | | | 4 | 5 | 6 | | | | | ------------------- Screen 1 Team Name Real Name Team Name Real Name Colorado Illinois Missouri Iowa Oklahoma Minnesota St of Kansas Kansas St. Pursue Purdue Kansas St of Ohio Ohio St. Nebraska Indiana St of Iowa Iowa St. Michigan St of Okla. YOU WILL HAVE TO PLAY THAT GAME OVER AGAIN!! After the game is done, you'll get a different rank. Don't be TOO greedy; you could go down. And don't expect to go from 80 to 1 in one game either. It won't happen. Things that will help you go up in the ranks: * Winning. (of course) * Using a school with a good football reputation. * Playing (and beating) high ranked teams. * Good luck. Things that will send you down the ranks: * Losing. (DUH!) * Using a school without a good football reputation. * Playing easy teams. * The polls screw you over and/or hate you. * Bad luck. Bowl Games: ----------- Bowl games, like teams, use fake, but similar names. I've tried my best to list each bowl's real name. If you know the real bowl name, contact me. Vacation Bowl Holiday Bowl The first bowl you get invited to is the most prestigious (best). The three best bowls are the Violet Bowl, Banana Bowl, and the Salt Bowl. The Banana Bowl is usually the National Championship game. The Violet Bowl can be the National Championship if the contestants (Big 10 and Pac 10 Champs) are Numbers 1 and 2. If you get invited to the Violet Bowl, and neither you nor your opponent are Number 1 in the polls, REJECT THE INVITATION!! You should also get an invitation to the Banana Bowl. Take that one. If you do not, reject all the other invitations, and you'll get a second chance to get into the Violet Bowl. If you accept a bowl bid, it is not set in stone. If you do not like your bowl choice, just hit the reset button. You can choose a different bowl. Playbooks: ---------- At the College level, there are 6 offensive playbooks and 5 defensive playbooks. Below are all 97 teams and the combination of playbooks each one has, all 6 offensive playbooks, and the 5 defensive playbooks. To find your team’s playbook, check the list (sorted alphabetically), then scroll down and find the respective playbooks (off. #/def. #). For more information on each play, scroll down even farther to each section of plays (defense, run, pass, and option). There isn't much to run plays; the running back gets the ball, and everyone else blocks for him. Play Brief Description ----------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Bootleg Left after the Receiver on the right goes in motion, the QB keeps the ball and rolls left Change Up the Fullback gets the handoff and runs to the right side between the Tackle and the Tight End Counter the Halfback (on the left) takes the pitch and goes right as several players block for him Dive Fullback (middle Running Back) goes straight the middle after the handoff Double Reverse The QB handoffs to a Receiver, who then gives the ball to the HB End Around everyone blocks left after the QB hands off to the Receiver (left) goes right FG Fake Run the offense lines up to kick a field goal, but the Halfback (far right player) gets the handoff from the holder and runs to the outside on the left side Freeze the Halfback runs just outside of the Tight End on the right side after the handoff Full House Left Fullback (in the middle) follows the other 2 RB's to the left side after he receives the handoff Full House Right Fullback (in the middle) follows the other 2 RB's to the right side after he gets the lateral Line Buck Halfback takes the handoff and run it up the middle between the center and the Guard on the right Off Tackle a handoff is given to the Halfback (right) as he takes it through the line between the TE and Tackle on the left side Power Right HB gets the handoff and squeezes in-between the Guard and the Tackle on the right side Power Slant QB hands off to HB, who scrapes outside of the right Tackle Punt Fake Run after lining up in punt formation, the Fullback takes the snap and runs to the left side QB Down Ball the QB takes a knee after the snap Quick Toss a lateral to the HB (left RB), who follows the FB and Receiver outside to the right Single Wing Sweep Halfback goes right after the lateral, just outside the Tight End on that side Sweep Left HB (right RB) gets the lateral and follows in-between the other two RB's Sweep Right the HB takes the pitch and goes right while the Fullback provides a lead block for him Wishbone Sweep the Halfback on the left side goes way outside to the left after the handoff Pass Plays: This is probably the biggest section. An Out pattern goes to the QB's right). L stands for left. A pattern with an L has the receiver going to his left, i.e. the receiver hooks left in a 2L pattern. R stands for right. A patter with an R has the receiver going to his right, i.e. the receiver slants right in a 5R pattern. Patterns can be combined with a hyphen. For example, the receiver first runs a flag pattern, then a fly pattern in a 3-1. This also works for "L" and "R" patterns. For each play, the name, QB's position and movement, and each of the receivers' (from left to right) patterns are listed. Pass plays can have anywhere from 1 to 5 receivers. Unlike a run, where only one person is the ball carrier, two or more players can carry the ball in option plays. An option play can also be a combination of a run and a pass. I have listed all the option plays, your best possible option, and what that option is effective against. They are divided into 6 screens on the team selection screen, with each page having one division, like so... ------------------- | 1 | 2 | 3 | | NFC | NFC | NFC | |East |Cent.| West| ------------------- | 4 | 5 | 6 | | AFC | AFC | AFC | |East |Cent.| West| ------------------- NFC East: NFC Central: NFC West: ---------------- ---------------- ---------------- Dallas Cowboys Chicago Bears Atlanta Falcons New York Giants Detroit Lions Los Angeles Rams Philadelphia Eagles Green Bay Packers New Orleans Saints Phoenix Cardinals Minnesota Vikings San Francisco 49ers Washington Redskins Tampa Bay Buccaneers AFC East: AFC Central: AFC West: ---------------- ---------------- ---------------- Buffalo Bills Cleveland Browns Denver Broncos Indianapolis Colts Cincinnati Bengals Kansas City Chiefs Miami Dolphins Houston Oilers Los Angeles Raiders New England Patriots Pittsburgh Steelers San Diego Chargers New York Jets Seattle Seahawks As I gather more info on each team, I will create small sections for all 28 teams, listing their rosters, schedules, ratings, etc. Rosters: -------- Each team has 31 players on its team: 2 Quarterbacks, 4 Running Backs, 4 Wide Receivers, 2 Tight Ends, 5 Offensive Linemen, a Punter, a Kicker, 4 Defensive Linemen, 3 Linebackers, and 5 Defensive Backs. Since SPAF doesn’t have a NFLPA License, I don’t have names to go with the numbers. Some are very obvious, like #20 on the Detroit Lions is Barry Sanders. Some aren’t. Until I have all the rosters, I’ll just list the numbers for now. The numbers with the positions are each player’s location on the depth chart. #1 is first string, #2 second string, etc. Running backs are restricted to the backfield. Wide Receivers and Tight Ends can be switched around any way you want. The general DB is your fifth defensive back. He can play both cornerback and safety. Also, the #2 WR is also your Kickoff Returner. So you may want to switch around your receivers so you may want to put your fastest receiver at that position.
