What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (7/9/10): The first version. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Baseball Stars 2 is a fun arcade-style baseball game, released for the Neo Geo system. It is a simple game to get into, especially if you know how baseball is played. You can play head-to-head against another player for a single game, or you can play the 15-game pennant race against the computer. There are only 12 teams (and interestingly enough two difficulty settings dividing them), each with their own advantages. The graphics are very much colorful, and you can see SNK really put an effort into this title. The animations that occur after getting thrown out, for instance, make the game even more light-hearted and playful. I would definitely recommend this game, especially if you are a baseball fan looking for a short and fun game! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ============== Gameplay Modes ============== In this game, there are only two modes of gameplay. They are: Pennant Race: Play a 15-game pennant race against the other teams in your league. If you are top-ranked after 15 games, you will go on to the final championship game against the top team of the other league to decide the final results. Game: Play a single game against a human player. After you select a game mode, you will be asked to pick from automatic (easy) and manual (hard) controls. Automatic controls basically means that the computer will move your players to the ball, etc. Each mode has its own group of six teams, so they are in theory two separate leagues, only with the manual mode being harder. You can then select your teams, and then the game begins. ============ In-Game Tips ============ While playing, you will see an image of the current pitcher's face. This is a tell-tale sign of how much strength he has. If the pitcher is looking out of breath and tired, and his pitches are slower/harder to control, it means you should probably switch pitchers to keep things fresh. If you are pitching and you end up hitting the batter, the batter will run up and punch the pitcher! This will result in an injury that will affect your pitches, so it would be best to switch out the pitcher at that point. If you are playing the field after the ball is hit, you will be able to control your players' movements with the joystick. If the ball was popped up and you are standing at the location where it will fall, that player will open his arms wide to signify this. Granted this does not always happen, so you need to manually move your players to ensure the ball is caught promptly. If you are at bat and have runners on base, there is something you need to be careful about. If the ball is hit and the runners advance to base, and the ball is CAUGHT, the runners must tag the starting base again or they can be thrown/tagged out at that base (if you know baseball, this makes sense). However, if you send your runners to the next base and they have already arrived at the base, you can NOT send them back, causing some forced outs to occur, so watch out! Also, if your team is at bat, and you send in a pinch hitter to replace the pitcher's at bat (#9 position), you will need to switch your pitcher at the start of the next inning. ============= Power Hitting ============= One unique feature to this game is the Power meter when you are at bat. If you activate it, the current batter will become stronger and have a greater chance of hitting the ball far if contact is made. To do this, call a time out and select the "Power" option. Initially, you will only have five Power hits to use. If you are playing the Pennant Race and you win the game, you will receive 10 (the maximum) Powers for use in the following games. If you lose, you gain nothing and are stuck with the ones you had already. ========= Post-Game ========= In the Pennant Race, after the game is won, some new events will occur. First off, the most valuable player (MVP) will be determined based on their performance in the game, and they will be awarded a $100000 cash prize. This has no effect on the game, sadly. After that, you will see the current standings of the six teams in the league, as well as who your next opponent will be. Finally, there wil be a screen with the team's owner (presumably). He will award you with either a special pinch hitter or a special pitcher. You will be asked to select a batter/pitcher currently on your team to swap out, and then get to pick one of 3-4 superior players to fill in for that game only. During the games themselves, you may randomly be awarded with a special hitter as well. The special pitchers are better at hitting and running, and pitch much faster. Likewise, the special batters are stronger and faster. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Team Data -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NOTE: In this game, there are no designated hitters. Therefore, the pitcher always bats in the #9 position and will have a .150 batting average. The first 8 batters listed are the starters; the others are the pinch hitters. Once you switch a batter in/out, that's it! ================= New York Monsters ================= Team Average: .333 Team E.R.A.: 2.00 Specialty: Hitting Batters ------- Name L/R Average HR ---- --- ------- -- Zombie L .290 10 Mummy L .280 10 Damien L .301 24 Freddy R .390 43 Alien L .352 24 Norman R .272 10 Cyclop L .207 24 Jason R .250 5 Jekyl L .342 18 Creepy R .280 18 Lenny R .250 24 Pumpkin R .213 38 Pitchers -------- Name L/R E.R.A. ---- --- ------ Hacker L 5.13 Medusa L 4.20 Boris R 4.41 Hannibal L 4.61 ============ Tokyo Ninjas ============ Team Average: .234 Team E.R.A.: 2.00 Specialty: Running Batters ------- Name L/R Average HR ---- --- ------- -- Sasuke L .205 5 Kirikaze L .239 7 Jube R .253 10 Kamui R .312 38 Maru R .250 10 Raizo L .240 10 Kisaragi L .230 18 Kumosuke L .280 43 Ukkari R .210 18 Hachibe L .205 43 Jecy L .305 18 Taro R .261 31 Pitchers -------- Name L/R E.R.A. ---- --- ------ Hayabusa R 3.54 Katana L 3.12 Ikazuchi R 3.54 Akane R 4.41 ============= Napoli Angels ============= Team Average: .301 Team E.R.A.: 2.00 Specialty: Balance Batters ------- Name L/R Average HR ---- --- ------- -- Luigi L .202 10 Ugo L .252 18 Rom R .300 24 Sergio R .394 43 Alberto R .300 31 La L .253 18 Tercorsi L .205 7 Steve L .250 18 Nunzio R .275 38 Nigel R .254 31 Vigo L .280 43 Gustavo R .225 43 Pitchers -------- Name L/R E.R.A. ---- --- ------ Prospero R 3.54 Gianni L 4.20 Pietra R 4.61 Adolfo R 4.00 ============ Taipei Hawks ============ Team Average: .283 Team E.R.A.: 2.00 Specialty: Pitching Batters ------- Name L/R Average HR ---- --- ------- -- Kerry L .250 2 Bill L .271 5 Tony R .281 5 Chaz R .382 31 Red R .255 7 Xia L .250 5 Ray L .253 5 Shane R .150 38 Taylor L .150 10 Mack R .150 38 Pike L .399 2 Banks L .350 2 Pitchers -------- Name L/R E.R.A. ---- --- ------ Joey L 1.25 Davis L 1.70 Johnson L 3.12 Miller L 2.82 ============ Seoul Ivorys ============ Team Average: .230 Team E.R.A.: 2.00 Specialty: Chance Batters ------- Name L/R Average HR ---- --- ------- -- Harry L .405 2 Alex L .209 7 Lefty R .172 10 Mike R .150 43 John R .192 2 Konan L .405 2 Clark L .203 7 Howard L .405 2 Tracy L .350 2 Pancho L .405 2 Axel R .325 18 J.J.
