Although it is made for multiple systems, this guide is based on the one made for the Turbo Grapx 16. Although it is a very very fun and graphically appealing game, it is also very hard. Updates: ************************************************************************* July 28, 2003 ------------- Version 1.00 This Version is the only version available as of now. It has everything completed. The only thing I can think of adding to this FAQ is a nice ASCII title, that might happen in the final version. ************************************************************************* -*=====================================================================*- Section II: Story -*=====================================================================*- The Story is nothing much. It involves some guy's girlfriend who goes into a haunted mansion and he has to save he by fighting through the undead hordes and killing the final gardian. ...or it's something like that...I dunno I lost the manual. -*=====================================================================*- Section III: Walkthrough -*=====================================================================*- Stage-1 ------- The first level introduces you to the game very well and will ease you into it. When you start the level, you will continue to the right killing any zombies on the way. To keep it basic, keep punching them. It is the easiest way to dispatch of them. When you go by a two by four on the ground, pick it up because it will be a valuable asset later in the level. You will find two by fours to be one of the most available and great weapons. When you get to the point that you have to jump over the strange brown wall on the floor, you will see these enemies on the wall that are brown and shoot acid on the floor in front of you. If you step on the acid, you will lose a point of health which is bad. You can jump over the small patch of acid, but it is ussually better just to wait for it to dissapear because you wouldn't want to waste any amount of health stepping in a bit of acid. After that acid demon guy you will have to fight another two zombies and wait as more acid is spewed on the floor. After that. you will come to a point where there are spikes coming from the floor and bats attempting to bump into you. If you hit either, you will lose a bit of health. Time your jumps and movements as to avoid the spikes. Sadely, the bats that fly in from time to time make this task a lot more difficult then it could be. The ones that are at your eye level you can punch or hit with the two by four, but every once in a while a bat will appear at your feet. This is a little annoying because it requires you to duck down and finish the threat off by kicking it. You will know that you are close to the finish when a zombie is seen in the spike field along with another low-flying bat. After that only one more zombie and a pair of strange demons will threaten you. Kill the zombie easily and then jump kick or hit the two demons with the two by four. In doing so their bodies will fall off and die, yet their head will try to get a last hit on you. You can either avoid the head, or smash it. Same with the other one. After you finish those two guys off, proceed up the ladder for a boss fight. See the Boss Section for a low-down of how to kill these slug creatures. Stage-2 ------- Head right at the beginning of this stage as ussual. You will come across some zombies, but nothing big. Kill the green colored zombie, that requires two hits, and then avoid the acid-spitting corpses on the wall. Be sure no to miss the two by four on the floor because it is very useful. Later you will find a wrench on the ground too. To get it, switch to wrench with the two by four and then use the wrench and switch back. After that, you need to continue, and hit the corpses falling from the ceiling and the zombies on the floor, while avoiding holes. When you get to the end, just fall down the hole and go into the flooded basement. Upon falling into the basement, immediatly get the two by four on the wall and continue down the sewer. You will have to take down a few sludge zombies, but not to worry they are the exact same thing as normal zombies except they attack you and have a good range. After you kill about 4-5 of the sludge zombies, you should jump over the incoming floating spike in order to avoid losing health. Three of these spikes will appear in front of you then you have to jump behind one to your rear. Then after that in your front again. After this you will find yourself between two sludge monsters that you are bound to want to kill. Jump over a few more spikes and kill two more monsters and the boss room will be up the ladder. See the Boss Section for a strategy against the haunted room. Stage-3 ------- This is a cool level. It is outside on the mansion grounds and you get the ultimate weapon the shotgun, but anyways, when you first start out you head right and kill the few zombies and zombiefied dogs on your way. Soon you will come across a shotgun on the ground and start shooting everything that comes within your range because you can. You have 8 shots so use them wisely. After a bit of shooting and fighting, you should walk across the bridge that has glowing lights on the ground. Don't walk on the lights because you are caught on one, a large hand will pull you down into the pits or something that you will have to fight a lot of red slugs. That is never fun...so watch it. After you get yourself across, you will find a rock that you can throw across a pit to hit something. It is a disposable weapon. Be aware that the first zombie you come across will appear to fall into a hole in the ground, but he will get himself up when he looks like he will fall, so kill him by the shotgun. Soon you will come by corpses on strings that stay in place. They spit acid. My only advice is to kill them via a shotgun blast before they shoot the acid at you because the acid get very annoying keep following the path and you come by another shotgun. Right after you do that you will find yourself facing the boss with the shotgun. See the boss section for details on toppling this boss. Stage-4 ------- Stage four is a bit more challanging then all of the other stages you hve faced so far because you will encounter far more skilled enemies then ever before. Right when you start the level beware of the green zombies that will attack you from the right side. You can grab the spears on the wall for a nice beefy one hit kill. Remeber that the zombies will not fall into the holes on th eground so really you have to kill them. In a bit you will find jumping zombies that are very annoying. You must jump attack these enemies before they get to you because you will not be able to stand in place and punch them out or they will almost certainly hit you. After you jump over the hole. Keep going right and you will be assaulted by 4 zombies. After this you must time your jumps to get over the blades by timing your jumps. Go through the door to your right. Be sure to go slow to avoid being hit by the bats in the level. If you fall into the hole you will find yourself in a slime room where, similar to the first boss, slimes will jump around and try to take you out. Kill them by jump kicking them right when their head appears before they jump. That is the easiest way to do it. In this room you will find a ton of mirrors. This is nothing too suspicious. Three mirrors in the room will burst and you will be left to kill the enemy that broke the mirror...your reflection. After you beat the reflections through better skill at beating them down, continue through to the right and you will find yourself in a room with the boss. Keep going right and kill all of the floating head that get in contact with you. Pick up the golden cleaver in the room if you wish to beat the boss, and continue. See the Boss Section for tactics in beheading the boss. Stage-5 ------- At the start of this stage, pick up the two by four and smash all of the chairs with it. Keep going through the library area and eventually, after smashing many chairs, you will go into another room. In this next room you will have to jump across a bunch of platforms that are tilted. These tiltled platforms are difficult because if you stay still on them, you will slowly fall. This is okay if you just stay in motion non of the hands in between the platforms should be able to touch you. In between the platform jumping, beat the crap out of those annoying head demons and continue. You will fight two head demons the second time. At the end of this, you have the optoin of either going down or up. If you go up you will have to fight a strange spectre that shoots flying head at you. Down you will need to get through yet another sewer that is made complete with sludge zombies and floating spikes. Now I would choose to go up because it is easier then the sludge in my opinion. Just dodge all the crap that the spectres and the flying heads throw at you. It is easy. If you fall from the top floor then you must go through the sewer level. If you go down one story form the top floor at the end via the ladder, then you have to get through a slimed up area with red slugs jumping at you. This is annoying. If you go up from the top floor, then you go into a mirror room Where there are mirrors there are reflections. Now you know what you must fight in here. After the mirror room is a red slug room. If you beat the sewer area you have to fight a really annoying enemy that if tough. I suggest tyou just avoid her and go to the top. If you choose to fight her just jump kick her and avoid her zombie-like pals even though that is easier said then done. Whatever path you choose keep heading to the right. No matter what you will eventually get to your girlfriend you will be the boss. See the boss section for your boogie man troubles. Stage-6 ------- When you start of this short level you're inside something. Eeeeewwwww. The only enemy in the level are the eggs that appear and float around trying to hit you. Attack and dodge every one to get to the end. What you do os you jump attack everything in the way and try not to get under anyt eggs because they are hard to attack from the bottom up. Keep going and you will eventually get to the boss. Stage-7 ------- This final stage is all about dodging, and it is somewhat dissapointing after all the stuff you faced in level five. Jump over flaming logs, and move around the flaming warriors and you will get to the boss. It is very simple. For the final boss strategy go to the boss section. -*=====================================================================*- Section VI: Weapons -*=====================================================================*- Two-by-Four ----------- The Two-by-Four is considered by many to be the best weapon in the game. It seems to always be there just when you need it and has awesome power yet it doesn't leave you open to attacks. The extended range of the blow is also helpful when trying to kill monsters. Wrench ------ The wrench is a one-time use weapon that you will throw, hopefully hitting an enemy along the way, and disregard. Since you may only use it once just pick it up, use it on the next enemy, and get your weapon that you had before you had the wrench if you had one at all. That's really al to say about the wrench. Shotgun ------- Easily the best weapon in the game. It comes loaded with eight shots and is very deadly because it can kill almost anything with one shot. This weapon makes you unstoppable. Perhaps that's why it has the rarity of only appearing on level three. Use the eight shots wisely. Rock ---- Exact same as wrench. It is one time use only and it just looks like a rock. Spears ------ Spears are found in level four on the wall and can kill most things in one hit. They attack slowly and are one-time-use weapons. So, they are great to just use, but if you find a two-by-four forget the spear. Golden Cleaver -------------- The only Golden Cleaver is an amazinf weapon. Although it can only be obtained in level four on the boss section, it is very powerful and youcan use it as many times as you want to. Pick it up and go crazy. -*=====================================================================*- Section V: Enemies -*=====================================================================*- I don't have any official names for the enemies. They are named what I called them becase that's either what they looked like, what they do, how they attack, what it is that they are assumed to be. The list goes on. If you have an official name that you would like to give me. Go ahead and e-mail me. I will give you credit. Zombies ------- Zombies are the simple enemies that are very common in most levels. They take one basic hit with any weapon to fall. Simple enough and are in large numbers almost all the time. Bats --- The bats flying around are your typical flying enemy that will pester you to no end. They are green and can come at you high, medium, and low. Also, they should not be ignored for the most part, because there are ussally a lot of them, so you should dispatch of them immediatly. Head Demons ----------- These demons are smarter then the average zombie. Upon their death, ther head will fly off towards you. If you can, destory the head, but you can avoid it if possible. Spikes ------ Spkies appear from the ground and cannot be killed. So avoid them and continue. Red Slugs --------- Red Slugs come in very large packs that have to be dealt with in most situaltions. My advice is to duck-kick them in order to save yourself some trouble. Acid Corpses ------------ These are the troublesome corpses in chains on the walls that shoot out acid on the floor in front of you, and then leave you alon for good. The problem is when they shoot the acid it takes up a lot of your space. It can be jmped over, but if your not a Splatter House veteran, you should probably just wait until it goes away, about five seconds later. Green Zombies ------------- Zombies of the green variety are the exact same as normal zombies, but they take two punches/kicks. With the two by four, they still die in one shot though. Hanged Corpses -------------- This enemy rises and falls every once in a while, so it is very easy to avoid, but why would you want to? Smack em with whatever you have once to bring them down and they will bother you no more. Sludge Zombie ------------- These only appear in sewer regions in the Splatter House mansion and are almost the exact same as normal zombies, only they attempt to do you in with a punch attack that actually has some range on it, so watch if they get too close. Floating Spikes --------------- Floating Spikes are always seen foating (hence the name) on top of water. They are there solely for you to aviod them by jumping over them. It's easy. Zombified Dogs -------------- Dogs take two punches and kicks. Although they only have the threshold for one bullet from the shotgun, it is wise to save the ammunition. Plus it is easier to take themn out with two kicks anyways. Do so. Destroyable Acid Corspes ------------------------ These corpses are te same as acid corpses, but they are actual enemies that can be killed with one hit. Light Hands ----------- These are the moving glowing lights seen cmmonly on bridges in Splatterhouse. They are indestructable, and can only be avoided. If you are caught by them you are transported to an area lower of the level you were on before. Jumping Zombies --------------- These zombies are the same as normal zombies, except for the annoying fact that they jump around and are generaly very annoying. Well, it's hard to hit them just as they are coming down upon you, so I suggest you try and take them out by attacking them quickly. Giant Slugs ----------- Nothing much to these enemies. Just get low and kick them when they slide towards you. They take two normal hits. Reflection ---------- This is probably the hardest normal enemy you will encounter. He has some actual skill in fighting and he take around six or seven hits to fall. You should probably jump right when he comes out of the mirror and engage in aerial attacks. You should probably hit him a few times that way. Finish him off by continuing your volley of jumping attacks. Rotating Spikes --------------- Really annoying rotating spikes on the ground. It is generally harder to avoid these then normal spikes. Chairs ------ These are easy enemies that take one hit and explode. Their jumping around can get on your nerves, but it is nothing major. Jumping Hands ------------- These hands are definately annoying because they are precariously between the spaces between gaps in the floor and jump as you are jumping between them. Well, just time you jumps and hope. Haunted Picture --------------- This has a picture of a strange white face on it and it comes out of picture and attacks you at eye level. Punch it to easily dispatch it. Spectre ------- A floating girl who will shoot skulls at you to annoy you greatly. The only thing you can do is dodge her. Eggs ---- Folating eggs appear and then float to attack you or land on the ground where they become mutated looking little guys. Then they jump at you arfter a few seconds and latch themselves on until you can shake them off. They appear in large numbers in level six and are a real pain. The best way to deal with them is to kill them while they are in egg form. If this is not possible, one hit will do. Flaming Logs ------------ Simply jump over them when they come towards you. They requires good timing. Flaming Warriors ---------------- This enemy will left and past you and will attemp to take you down. It is easy to dodge these and I suggest you do so, even though a mix of flaming logs and men is a bit hard to dodge. -*=====================================================================*- Section VI: Bosses -*=====================================================================*- I don't have any official names for the bosses. They are named what I called them becase that's either what they looked like, what they do, how they attack, what it is that they are assumed to be. The list goes on. If you have an official name that you would like to give me. Go ahead and e-mail me. I will give you credit. Boss #1: The Slug Creatures --------------------------- The slug creatures at the end of stage one are of no problem to destroy. Stand in the center of the room and duck. When ever a slug comes out of it's ooze there all you have to do is kick rapidly on both sides. In fact just keep kicking and never stop alternating sides and you should do fine. Beware of the last slug that comes out unexpectedly out of the dead body on the left side of the room. Boss #2: Haunted Room --------------------- The Haunted Room is a series on haunted objects that attack you. Every one of these objects has a specfic strategy that it takes to destroy, and this should be used to your advantage. THE FALLING BOTTLES These are the initial falling things that appear when the room is haunted. The only thing you can do is aviod them. Wait until the next thing is alive. THE CHAIR The chair is the first thing that will attack you, and is the easiest too. Continuous punching will easily destory the chair in no time. The only problem you may have is that the chair will not be aligned with your punches. You should jump punch it whenever it seems to go higher or jump itself. The chair takes 5 punches or kicks to die. THE KNIFE The knife is very easy to destroy. Time it do when it attacks you, you punch it, and it becomes an easy task of hitting it three times when it goes to stab you. THE DOUBLE KNIVES Killing two knives at the same time becomes a lot harder than killing only one. You will get used to it with practice. Your whole goal is to get both of the knives on one side of the screen trying to kill you and then dispatch of them when they are on one side. To do this, you must hit the one that comes to stab you first and then jump the second. This will put them both on one side. Now you just need to hit them like you did with one knife, only you need to hit two. The knives will not stab you at the exact same spot every time, it becomes slightly higher or lower depending on where you hit the knives. So aim your punches/kicks accordingly. THE PICTURE The picture only takes five hits and only slightly harder to destroy then the chair is. It is just faster, so time your hits faster as well. THE CHANDELIER It's always a pain when you practiccally beat the boss and then you die. Well, maybe thats never happened, but in this game it will if you get hit by the falling chandelier after you kill everything else. So right after you kill the picture, go to te left or right side. Wait a few seconds and it wil fall. You'll beat the boss. Boss #3: The Chainsaw Guy ------------------------- This boss is hard, but since you are armed with a shotgun against him it should make it easier. At first shoot him with the shotgun and wait a second before shooting him again because if you do, he might be in mid-jump and your shot will miss. We DO NOT want to miss this guy. Keep shooting him, aware that me may jump until all eight shotgun shells are used up. Now it's harder. You should have all is nto most of your lives left. I suggest doing quick jump attacks at the chainsaw guy and if you score a hit jump back. If he hits you, however, you will be invenerable for a few seconds. In those few seconds your going to want to take the opportunity to wail on the guy. He has greater range then you have on your attacks, so without jump attacking him, it's pretty much hopeless. If you can't break him, keep trying it's rather hard and takes pratice. You'll get it soon enough. Boss #4: Rotating Heads ----------------------- The whole goal of finishing this boss off is to hit the large cross in the middle of the heads. With the golden cleaver in hands, you have a large advantage in power, but still expect at least a few hits from this boss as he can be challenging. Keep jump attacking him and taking out a head evrey time you jump. This will give you a good view to smack the cross in the middle. After a little bit, the head will reform. Try to kill the cross before they do to avoid some frustration. I find a good strategy is to stay on the right side of the screen and duck. When the group of heads flys over there get up and slice. Keep doing that. The group will never hit you because they have a fixed pattern. That should take care of that boss. Boss #5: Boogie Man ------------------- This boss seems very hard at first, but once you know what to do, it will become easy. You must jump attack it and then quickly jump back to avoid the razor sharp spikes it has. Repeat this until the boogie man transforms back into your girlfriend. Repeat this two more times and this boss will be gone forever. It is very easy once you get how to win. Boss #6: Egg Maker ------------------ This boss makes the egg enemies and you have to kill him. The only thing you really need to do is go right up next to him and contantly smack him When he spwans egg enemies, go out of your way to kill them because they are the most annoying. Then go straight back to him. After much of this beating he will die. Boss #7: -------- There are no tricks when defeating this boss. What you do is avoid the falling rocks he makes when his head sirfaces above the ground. Then hit him in his face while avoiding the hands that will constantly swap at you. Don't worry though. If you have good dodging skills and reflexes this boss will not be so bad afterall. Keep trying and you will ace him. That is the only thing I can tell you about him. -*-===================================================================-*- Section VII: Credits -*====================================================================-*- Thank you to the folowing: NEC - Who made Turbo Grafx 16 and this game CJayC - For hosting this guide on GameFAQs That's really it.
