FIRE PROWRESTLING: COMBINATION TAG Complete Guide for the PC-Engine Version 1.4 / July 3, 2001 by PuroGeek (jacquismo@hotmail.com) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- =================== =Table of Contents= =================== 1) Introduction 2) What's New? 3) Getting Started 4) Characters 5) Controls 6) Move List 7) The End? 8) Credits & Feedback ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============== =INTRODUCTION= ============== The year was 1989. The PC-Engine (TurboGrafx-16 in the US) had spent close to two years on the market. Human Entertainment, a small Japanese game developer was looking for a hit game. What better way to try for it than with a wrestling video game? Whether they'll admit it or not, everybody loves pro-wrestling. But this wasn't any generic wrestling game. No, it was a wrestling game with big (re-)names, but little licensing fees. It was like playing a couple of different games at once! It was the beginning of a new era of puroresu games. It was... FIRE PROWRESTLING. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============= =WHAT'S NEW?= ============= v1.0 - Finished move lists and most of everything else. v1.1 - Filled in the true identities of the Evil Pirates. Thanks, Sam! Other minor changes occurred. v1.2 - Added ending and code. v1.3 - Added wrestler affiliations. Other minor changes. v1.4 - Revealed the effects of the secret code. See "The End?" for details. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================= =GETTING STARTED= ================= Fire ProWrestling: Combination Tag has three separate modes of play: Single Match (1P vs. CPU, 1P vs. 2P) This is a singles match between two wrestlers. While fighting against the computer, you must pin the opponent or make them submit to earn enough points to go to the next round, and eventually try to defeat all comers. In the two-player mode, the match is the best of three and whoever gets two wins will have the chance to gloat over his rival. Tag Match (1P vs. CPU, 1P vs. 2P, 1P&2P vs. CPU, 1P&2P vs. 3P, 1P&2P vs. 3P&4P) This is a match between two teams of wrestlers. Unfortunately, the wrestlers are assigned to certain teams, so there's only one partner for each fighter. The different teams are listed in the Characters section below. Gameplay is similar to the singles matches, only you must avoid having your pin broken up by the other member of the opposing team. 5 vs. 5 Elimination Match (1P vs. COM, 1P vs. 2P) Here one can pick five wrestlers of their choosing to fight in one-fall, singles elimination matches. Players take turns choosing their characters, so be sure to pick your favorite first! You can then change the order that you want your guys to fight in. The first team to get five pinfalls or submissions wins. After choosing how you want to play, you will be taken to the character select screen. There are four screens of four characters. Just press right or left on the far sides of the screen, and you'll be taken to the next set of wrestlers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============ =CHARACTERS= ============ Combination Tag has a large (for 1989, anyway) selection of wrestlers to choose from. Everyone should be able to find a favorite. All characters are listed by the order in which they are shown in the intro. However, his victory is short-lived; his last opponent kicks him in the stomach and runs off with the trophy! The credits roll while your wrestler is out cold. He comes to his senses by the end and chases after the villain who took his prize. Victory in Tag Match mode garners the same display, only with both members of your team in the ring, who get taken out by a single guy. Though somewhat humorous, it seems like completing the task of defeating 15 other wrestlers (or 7 teams) deserves more. Well, Human didn't totally leave its buyers disappointed. At the end of the credits, a code will be given, which I will list here: At the title screen, hold down Button I, then press Right, Left, Left, Left, Left, Left, Down, Down, Up. The screen should now have a bluish tint. So what does this do? Well, first, you have to beat Single or Tag mode again. *groan* After defeating the entire roster of wrestlers that you beat before, you'll face a couple of new opponents! Your first challenge is against R.J. Phase (Lou Thesz) and his deadly backdrop in a Lumberjack Death Match! If you manage to take him out, you'll meet Carlos Krauser (Karl Gotch) in another Lumberjack Death Match and attempt to avoid his German suplex! If in Tag Mode, you'll face Phase and Krauser, who team as the "Legend Heroes," in a Lumberjack Death Match for your final opponents. Now it's time to sit back and watch the new ending. This time, when faced with your angry opponent, your character will kick HIM in the stomach! Your wrestler celebrates while his nemesis flees in terror. Fun to watch, but nothing special. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any code to play as the Legend Heroes, as far as I can tell. Darn. If anyone stumbles upon one, let me know! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ==================== =CREDITS & FEEDBACK= ==================== A big thanks goes out to: Samwizeuk - Revealing the identities of the "Pirates" Human Entertainment - Supplying a great series of games NEC - Creation of the underestimated PC-Engine console Questions?
