May he rest in peace, and may wherever his soul goes be the best place in existance... * Added the move lists of the extra characters in the Playstation 2 version (Goenitz, Orochi Iori, and Geese.) * Made more changes in general. vers. 1.2.6 - Done on 8/1/2003 * Fixed an error regarding Shingo's SDM Running Pheonix Phosphorous command. vers. 1.2.5a - Done on 7/31/2003 * Updated the Disclaimer to add another hosting site, a German cheats/FAQ site known as Cheats.de. Aside from that, nothing's changed. vers. 1.2.5 - Done on 7/30/2003 * Fixed more errors, including one in Leona's section in relation to her Gliding Buster which I failed to correct until now. I can't believe I neglected to do that... vers. 1.2.4 - Done on 7/1/2003 * Completed King and Shingo's sections now that the Dreamcast version is released, and added the ways to get them, Kusanagi, and Rugal in that version. * A few more errors have been fixed, too. vers. 1.2.3 - Done on 6/3/2003 * Corrected a few more things, and finally added in Maxima's Type M-2: Maxima Beam DM, which I *somehow* managed to leave out of this mini-FAQ for seven versions in a row. Agh. Thanks to Arzang Baygan for the heads-up! * Added in King and Shingo's sections as placeholders until the Dreamcast version of the game is released and all the information is released for them. vers. 1.2.2 - Done on 5/24/2003 * Basically, more corrections! I also added one bit for Clark that should've been in there before. vers. 1.2.1 - Done on 5/21/2003 * Just made a few tiny corrections. vers. 1.2 - Done on 12/28/2002 * Eliminated the number notation for good. Sad to say, no one in the universe likes the number notation. Oh well, at least the FAQ will be worth reading to most people now. * More errors fixed. vers. 1.1 - Done on 12/27/2002 * After witnessing three people in a row on the GameFAQs Fighting Game message board complain about the number notation, I was about to change it to the conventional notation when my friend suggested that I compromise by doing it both ways. The commands are now in both notations. * I also forgot to list Kensou's meat bun DM! Egad! Oh well, it's in now. * A few more errors fixed. * Made a small amount of renamings. vers. 1.0.2 - Done on 12/27/2002 * Fixed a few more things. vers. 1.0.1 - Done on 12/27/2002 * Modified my e-mail address above to thwart spammers who harvest e-mail addresses. * I forgot to put in Ryuji Yamazaki's new DM. Ack! It's in his section now. * Some typos fixed. * Modified the Special Thanks section. vers. 1.0 - Done on 12/20/2002 * First version! == 0.0 TABLE OF CONTENTS == -2.0 Disclaimer -1.0 Version History 0.0 Table of Contents ** YOU ARE HERE ** 1.0 Before We Start... 2.0 Move List Legend and Terminology 2.0.0 Throws 2.0.1 Command Moves 2.0.2 Special Moves 2.3 Desperation Moves 2.4 Super Desperation Moves 2.5 MAX2 Desperation Moves 3.0 The Move Lists 3.0.0 Japan Team 3.0.0.0 Kyo Kusanagi 3.0.0.1 Benimaru Nikaido 3.0.0.2 Goro Daimon 3.0.1 Fatal Fury Team 3.0.1.0 Terry Bogard 3.0.1.1 Andy Bogard 3.0.1.2 Joe Higashi 3.0.2 Art of Fighting Team 3.0.2.0 Ryo Sakazaki 3.0.2.1 Robert Garcia 3.0.2.2 Takuma Sakazaki 3.0.3 Ikari Team 3.0.3.0 Leona 3.0.3.1 Ralf Jones 3.0.3.2 Clark Steele 3.0.4 Psycho Soldier Team 3.0.4.0 Athena Asamiya 3.0.4.1 Sie Kensou 3.0.4.2 Chin Gentsai 3.0.5 Ladies Team 3.0.5.0 Yuri Sakazaki 3.0.5.1 Mai Shiranui 3.0.5.2 May Lee 3.0.6 Korea Team 3.0.6.0 Kim Kaphwan 3.0.6.1 Chang Koehan 3.0.6.2 Choi Bounge 3.0.7 KOF'96 Team (a.k.a. My name's Eric Baker, a.k.a. The Green Herring, or A Large Trout on the GameFAQs Message Boards. I was surfing the MadMan's Cafe bulletin board on December 19th, 2002, when I came across a post in a topic related to the latest King of Fighters game in the series as of this writing, The King of Fighters 2002, which mentioned that there were no complete move lists for that game in the English language ANYWHERE on the Internet. Were it not for that post, I would not have been inspired to start a topic in the Orochinagi.com message board's KOF2K2 forum which would have complete move lists for everybody in the game. I finished writing down complete move lists up to the move lists for the Ladies Team before I had to get to sleep. The next day, on December 20th, 2002, I was writing down the move lists for the Korea Team and I showed my friend Matthew "Emmy" Massey the thread. I then mentioned to him that I would give permission to any budding FAQ writers to use my move lists after I was done with all of them, although I wasn't sure I should give permission to Gunsmith, the head honcho of Orochinagi.com, when I remembered how the detailed section for Ramon in HIS KOF2K2 FAQ had nothing but a message reading, "SCREW RAMON! mYAYAYHAHAHA." No offense, but... um, when you do a general FAQ, aren't you supposed to cover every character in the game? Anyway... after I mentioned that, Emmy suggested that I should write an FAQ myself and show Gunsmith what for. I decided that I would write this Mini-FAQ and put the remaining move lists, along with the already-completed move lists, in it. And so, I wrote the legal disclaimer for it (which I think I'll use in later FAQ or FAQ-like creations of mine,) then did the table of contents. Now I'm writing this little introductory section, and it's still the 20th of December as of this writing. I hope you find this Mini-FAQ useful in any way. If you wish to use any of the information in here, ask for permission first. Either that, or at least credit me for it. Simple as that. Also, be aware that this is my first FAQ EVER, and thus there may be some errors in it. With that, on with the show! == 2.0 MOVE LIST LEGEND AND TERMINOLOGY == First off, here are the controls. -- Controls -- (T) u/b u u/f J = Joystick \|/ (B)(C)(D) d/b = Down-Back b---J---f (A) d = Down /|\ d/f = Down-Forward d/b d d/f f = Forward u/f = Up-Forward u = Up u/b = Up-Back b = Back T = Start / Taunt A = A Button / Weak Punch B = B Button / Weak Kick C = C Button / Strong Punch D = D Button / Strong Kick Now comes the notation I'll be using in the FAQ. -- Notation -- A = Press the A button / Weak Punch button. B = Press the B button / Weak Kick button. C = Press the C Button / Strong Punch button. D = Press the D Button / Strong Kick button. AC = If two or more buttons are listed next to each other in a command, that means to press those buttons simultaneously. This, for example, translates to "Press A / Weak Punch and C / Strong Punch simultaneously. _ = Charge previous direction. + = Press the previous direction and then the preceding buttons simultaneously. . = This separates button presses for button-combo moves. j = If this is seen at the beginning of a command, it means the attack must be done in mid-air. (j) = If this is seen at the beginning of a command, it means the attack can be done in mid-air. qcf = Quarter circle forward (d, d/f, f.) qcb = Quarter circle back (d, d/b, b.) dp = Dragon Punch motion (f, d, d/f.) rdp = Reverse Dragon Punch motion (b, d, d/b.) hcf = Half circle forward (b, d/b, d, d/f, f.) hcb = Half circle back (f, d/f, d, d/b, b.) Examples include... qcf, hcb+AorC - Press down, down-forward, forward, down-forward, down, down-back, and back, then the A / Weak Punch button or the C / Strong Punch button. b_f+D - Charge back, then press forward and the D / Strong Kick button. A, A, f, B, C - Press Weak Punch, then Weak Punch again, then forward, then Weak Kick, and finally Strong Punch. jqcb+CD - Press down, down-back, and back, then the C / Strong Punch and D / Strong Kick buttons simultaneously in mid-air. hcf+B - Press back, down-back, down, down-forward, and forward, then the B / Weak Kick button. And now comes the explanations of the individual sections of the move lists. -- 2.0.1 Throws -- By pressing back or forward and then either C / Strong Punch or D / Strong Kick simultaneously when close, your character can throw the opponent. Usually, all C throws throw forward, and all D throws throw backward. You can escape from throws by pressing back or forward and then either C / Strong Punch or D / Strong Kick simultaneously when being thrown. Some characters can perform a mid-air Power Toss by pressing any direction except up, up-back, or up-forward and then either C / Strong Punch or D / Strong Kick simultaneously when in mid-air and close to a mid-air enemy. Unlike ground throws, they cannot be escaped from. -- 2.0.2 Command Moves -- Command moves are on the level of normal attacks, but they require an extra directional input to perform them. Some of them can be cancelled into other moves, and others cannot. Some of them cannot be blocked either high or low, and some can be blocked at either height. All characters have command moves except for Ralf Jones of the Ikari Team -- who has not had any since the beginning of the series -- and Mature of the KOF'96 Team. -- 2.0.3 Special Moves -- These are basically the characters' trademark fighting abilities, the moves that set them apart from other fighters in the world. They require harder (but not so hard) motions to perform than your normal attacks, such as a quarter circle forward or a half circle back. They also do damage even if blocked. If they are blocked, they do a pixel of damage. -- 2.0.4 Desperation Moves -- These are also known as "Super Special Moves" in Japan, and are called DMs for short. They are stronger versions of Special Moves, which are done using two buttons, have harder motions than Special Moves, and use up one stock in your Power Gauge. In MAX Mode (activated by pressing B / Weak Kick and C / Strong Punch simultaneously, which uses up one stock,) they will take no stocks to perform, but they will end MAX Mode if you do them. -- 2.0.5 Super Desperation Moves -- These are also known as "MAX Super Special Moves" in Japan, and are called SDMs for short. They are most often like DMs, except they're stronger in some way and you must be in MAX Mode (activated by pressing B / Weak Kick and C / Strong Punch simultaneously, which uses up one stock) to perform them. When performed in that mode, they will use up one stock in your Power Gauge and MAX Mode will be ended. -- 2.0.6 MAX2 Desperation Moves -- A brand-new addition to the King of Fighters series, these are called "Hidden Super Desperation Moves" by the majority of the KOF community (HSDMs for short,) but the official name for them is "MAX2 Super Desperation Moves." They are performed just like SDMs, except they often have more complex motions than SDMs and they can be only done with 1/6th of your life left. Not a lot of them, however, are actually practical... == 3.0 CHARACTER MOVE LISTS == Now, the moment you've been waiting for... the move lists for everyone! Before we go on, though, I'd like to mention that just to be different, when a move name is usually in Japanese, I will write the name in English. Some of them are direct translations, some of them are slightly modified, and some of them are completely made up if the original name doesn't make any sort of sense when translated normally. A great example is Chin's special move performed by doing the Dragon Punch motion (forward, down, and down-forward) and then either the A / Weak Punch button or C / Strong Punch button simultaneously after doing his Drinking Cup Leaning move, which is performed by doing a quarter circle forward and then either the A / Weak Punch button or C / Strong Punch button simultaneously. The four kanji for the move's original name translate to this: "willow phosphorus sagebrush pig weed." Obviously, that makes no sense at all, so I renamed it "Drunken Wheel" for this Mini-FAQ. Also, all the commands listed here, as with any move list commands, are done when facing the right. If you are facing the left, reverse accordingly (e.g. when facing the left, change "qcf+A or C" to "qcb+A or C.)"
