INTRODUCTION - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neo Turf Masters is a neat little golf game for Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo CD, Arcade and more recently, Virtual Console on Nintendo Wii. Until the FAQ bounty was placed, I had never actually heard of the game but it shapes up pretty decent when it comes to oldschool golf games. I've played my share of them, but I'm a bigger fan of the Hot Shots series. Actually...it's one of the reasons I own a PS3. >_______>" Anyway...this should give you guys a good idea of how to succeed in Neo Turf Masters as well as any other golf game you pick up. I'm going to attempt to give you all the principles of becoming a good (videogame) golfer! [: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 03. The putting in this game is a joke but I find that chipping the ball in is much tougher than most games since the physics of the ball rolling after bouncing isn't that great. Japan: Everything is pretty much straight forward, sometimes you have to slice ball around trees or shoot the ball shorter to avoid water on your opening tee. Nothing too tricky here. U.S.A: Same thing as Japan but the wind is a little bit of a problem this time around. Adjust accordingly. Overcompensate your shot for the wind and slice the ball in the opposite direction of the wind to allow the ball to settle nicely. Germany: Very similar to Japan, just with longer holes. Keep the same strategy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 04. OVERVIEW AND GAME CONTROLS - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- +--------------+ | Characters | +--------------+ · Young Hero - Driving: 3/5 - Accuracy: 3/5 - Skill: 3/5 - Recovery: 3/5 - Putting: 3/5 The Young Hero has the most well rounded stats and doesn't specialize in everything. I tend to use him to make my life seem bland. MLIA. · Technician - Driving: 2/5 - Accuracy: 4/5 - Skill: 5/5 - Recovery: 4/5 - Putting: 3/5 The Technician would be excellent in this game if chipping the ball in was actually an achievable skill. Overrated imo. · Veteran - Driving: 1/5 - Accuracy: 2/5 - Skill: 4/5 - Recovery: 5/5 - Putting: 2/5 He's epic at getting the ball out of the rough or bunkers. Other than that? Nothing really useful. I wouldn't ever use him simply because I aim for perfection and being able to get out of something I'm never in is kinda useless. · Shot Maker - Driving: 4/5 - Accuracy: 5/5 - Skill: 2/5 - Recovery: 2/5 - Putting: 4/5 BEST. CHARACTER. EVER. Seriously, this guy is the man! He drives a decent distance, has perfect accuracy and his putting is phenomenal. His only downside is that his meters are fast and recovery is bad but with practice, it won't matter. When recovering, compensate that he only hits the ball around 60% of the power on the meter. · Power Golfer - Driving: 5/5 - Accuracy: 1/5 - Skill: 1/5 - Recovery: 1/5 - Putting: 1/5 Worthless. 'Nuff said. · Putt Master - Driving: 3/5 - Accuracy: 2/5 - Skill: 4/5 - Recovery: 2/5 - Putting: 5/5 Meh. He's second best in the game to the German shot maker. If you can't get used to Shot Maker's faster bars, use him. You'll still have to compensate for recovery, which is great because they have the same recovery. Once you've mastered the Putt Master, switch over to Shot Maker. · Overview Screen This is the screen that appears after your scorecard and the hole's par and distance. This is very important and you'll want to take note of a few things. REST: Total distance from the hole. WIND: The direction displays as a compass arrow and it also shows you how powerful the wind is. CLUB: At the bottom, beside your stance. DRVE: Your drive total shows how far your club can shoot. MAP: The map of the hole is displayed on the right column. Using the left and right arrows, you can adjust where your shot will go. Please note the crosshair on the map. It will show you directly where your shot will LAND. This does not include bounce or roll, which you'll have to calculate into your shot. What you'll want to do is find a safe spot on the fairway to shoot towards, accounting for the wind. Adjust based on wind direction: -Left: Move your shot right. -Right: Move your shot left. -Up: The wind is going with your shot. Don't shoot as hard or switch clubs. -Down: The wind is going against your shot. Shoot harder or switch clubs. When you're ready to make your shot, press A. · Shot Screen This is the screen directly after the overview screen. Here, you'll be able to view your character at his shot. Notice that the indicators from the overview screen all stay visible. The shot screen is where you'll make the actual shot (No shit, Sherlock!) as well as adjusting your stance. If there is a tree or other obstacle directly in the way of your shot, adjust your stance accordingly. If you press left, you'll get a Hook. If you press right, you'll get a slice. You can adjust the curve of your shot up to two times, which will make it spin more. Another use of stance adjustments is to make the ball drop on slopes when there is wind going left or right, as noted earlier in the guide. When you're ready to make your shot... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 05. POWER AND ACCURACY METERS - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By now, you should have been able to notice the two meters on the left. These are your power and accuracy meters, up and down. Once you press A in the Shot Screen... The power meter will move up and down. Press A again when you think the power is just right. 100 means 100% and the dotted line is 50%. If you hit it over the 100 line, the ball won't spin properly and you won't always get the right control. Anyways, after your power is decided... The accuracy meter will move up and down. Press A when the bar is as close to the middle line as possible. Hitting it above the line will move your shot left and hitting it under the line will move your shot right. If you hit the bar in the red zones, you will miss your shot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 06. PUTTING - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Putting is a bitch. Well...sort of. This game's putting is fairly easy. It works just the same as the power meter, but the correct way to putt is to always shoot with less power rather than more. Overpowering your putts will knock it out of the green and you'll end up wasting a shot placing it back on and then you'll have to putt again, etc... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 07.
