===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com), Gamerhelp (www.gamerhelp.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2006 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== Section Z FAQ [NES] July 22, 2006 Daniel (FecalLord) Engel fecalord [AT] gmail [DOT] com ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Controls (C) Items (D) Walkthrough - (D-01) Sections 00-19 - (D-02) Sections 20-39 - (D-03) Sections 40-59 (F) Thanks (G) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) CONTROLS ############################################################################### The controls for this game are as follows: Dpad - Move your character. Right - Scroll weapons. A - Fire right. B - Fire left. A+B - Choose STS [uses 4 units of energy, touch STS to activate/equip it]. Select - Activate/choose selected weapon. Start - Pause. ############################################################################### (C) ITEMS ############################################################################### Speed - These look like an "S" and speed up your movement a little. Energy - These red items refill 3 units of energy when picked up. Megasmasher - One of the 5 weapons other than your default laser. You fire V-shaped shots that are taller than your normal laser. Flashbuster - This weapon fires a 3-way spread shot at medium range. Megabuster - This weapon is a tricky one to get, but well worth it. It pretty much combines the megasmasher and the flashbuster. So you have a 3-way spread shot at medium range, that's also made up of the larger v-shaped shots. You need to have both of the other weapons in your inventory to get it, then you equip one as you pick up a second copy of that weapon. Flash Bomb - This STS kills all enemies on the screen when touched. Crash Ball - This STS surrounds you and spins, dealing damage to enemies that it touches. ############################################################################### (E) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy You will find the walkthrough for the entire game in the sections below. You need to keep in mind that touching an enemy directly will kill you, but their shots may only damage you. You also lose a life if you get stuck behind an object as the section scrolls. When you touch an enemy, you just lose a life. If you lose all of your health, then you get put back to section 00. ############################################################################### (E-01) SECTIONS 00-19 ############################################################################### This game has many branching paths, with plenty of optional stages or sections. I will provide step for each section and recommendations on which paths to take and which to avoid. The path that I recommend for this third of the game is: 00-01-02-04-06-05-07-08-11-09-06-12-13-14-16-18-17-19. ---------- Section 00 ---------- This short section has a small wave of enemies up high followed by one down low and a larger wave up high. After these enemies you go down to enter section 01. ---------- Section 01 ---------- This stage has a vertical line of 4 enemies on either side of you, so destroy both. A small wave up high and another down low is next, and 4 turrets appear at this point. Destroy two large waves to reach the end of the section. Up = Section 02 **harder, megasmasher** Down = Section 03 **easier** ---------- Section 02 ---------- After a pair of turrets you have to deal with some new harpoon enemies on both sides. The enemies die in one hit, but they fire a lethal harpoon that can handle 4 hits [the harpoon also explodes in a ring of shots after a few seconds]. Shoot the red ball down low to get the Megasmasher weapon [switch to it with select]. Watch for turrets up ahead while you destroy harpoon enemies, then deal with some mine-shaped enemies that fly down to the ground, across the bottom and then straight up again. After this group of enemies are the exits. Up = Section 04 **flashbuster** Down = Section 03 ---------- Section 03 ---------- There are two large robots crawling above and below. Unfortunately they take about 8-10 hits to destroy, but they're the only enemies in this whole section. Up = Section 06 Down = Section 04 **flashbuster** ---------- Section 04 ---------- Destroy opposite lines of enemies and watch for turrets, four waves alternate from the top and bottom next [watch for the flashbuster down low and take it]. They fly to the left edge of the screen, and come back right towards the middle. Two large waves are up next, followed by the exits. Up = Section 06 **yes** Down = Section 01 **no, backtracking** ---------- Section 05 ---------- This section has no enemies, so just choose an exit. It's also the only way to get to section 07, which is where you want to go eventually [unless you're destroying the generator]. So section 05 is a milestone. If you go to section 07, then you can move on with the game. If you go to section 05, then you have the option of getting more weapons and a helpful energy upgrade on future paths. Up = Section 07 **barrier shield** Down = Section 08 **flash bomb STS** ---------- Section 06 ---------- This is the first section since sections 00 and 01 that you MUST pass through. These kinds of sections are going to be called milestones from now on. The section has waves of harpoons [just the harpoons, not the enemies] flying from the right and some turrets. The harpoons are the biggest threat, since they kill you with one hit. Shoot those in your way as you try to dodge the rest and the turrets shots. The lower exit is your first locked exit and you lose a life if you take it. Instead you want to head for section 11 and destroy the generator there. Once you've done that, you can come back here and use the exit like normal. Up = Section 05 **yes** Down = Section 12 **locked** ---------- Section 07 ---------- Kill the jumpers that run along the ground and jump from the left, then avoid the turrets shots. Four parasites are next as well as a buster shield down low. Shoot more jumpers to find the exits, and shoot up at the top of the screen when the parasites appear to find your first warp [green in colour]. Go inside the warp to find more exits. Normal: Up = Section 08 **flash bomb** Down = Section 11 **generator** Warps: Left = Section 05 **no, backtrack** Right = Section 12 **milestone** ---------- Section 08 ---------- Attack a line of red wiggling enemies on your left to start this section, then deal with a small curving ships from all corners as turrets appear. Shoot down low after the pair of turrets for a warp to the flash bomb STS. Fight off some satellite enemies that create rings of shots and more turrets to reach the exits. Up = Section 05 **no, backtrack** Down = Section 11 **generator** ---------- Section 09 ---------- Shoot twin lines of enemies at the start and harpoon enemies afterwards. Watch for the twin red domes on the ground and start shooting at the very bottom in the next opening for a warp. Enter the warp to find your first energy room, where there are two beams. Touch one of them to get some energy restored. For this room, the right beam gives you 2 units back and the left gives 10, so touch the left. Shoot more harpoon enemies and a pair of large waves, above and then below for the exits [both lead back to section 06]. ---------- Section 10 ---------- Kill a pair of large robots and take the megasmasher from the platform, then destroy 3 more pairs to reach the exits. Up = Section 08 **flash bomb** Down = Section 09 **energy room** ---------- Section 11 ---------- The thin enemies that appear here don't fire at you, but they explode into two vertical bouncing balls. Shoot them when they're in the wider parts of the tunnel, then fly past them as they spread. Keep right until you find the generator, which has a green core firing two types of shots at you. The basic shots fly straight left, and the others track you as you move. I find it works well to fly back left as these shots approach you, then go down and right along the bottom and curve back left to the middle once more. Repeat this until the core is destroyed, which makes the locked exit in section 06 unlocked and safe to use. Take the energy upgrade to raise your maximum by 8 units, then use the exits. The locked door in section 06 is now open. Up = Section 09 **energy room** Down = Section 10 **megasmasher** ---------- Section 12 ---------- This section starts with jumpers while two groups of parasites appear. There is a tall blue object in the floor coming up, and you want to shoot near the top around that point to find a warp. Take the warp for your first metal-eater room. Shoot them and take any items inside, then return to the section. Fight another group of parasites and some jumpers to reach the exits [section 16 is the next milestone, a generator is there]. Up = Section 13 **megasmasher** Down = Section 14 **energy room** ---------- Section 13 ---------- No enemies here, just take the megasmasher on the ground and choose an exit. Up = Section 16 **generator** Down = Section 14 **energy room** ---------- Section 14 ---------- Turrets and twin lines of enemies start off this section, then shoot up high for a warp to an energy room. The left beam inside gives you 5 units back, while the right gives back 1. A few small curving waves of enemies from different corners are next, then 2 big waves for the exits. Up = Section 16 **generator** Down = Section 18 **go here after the generator** ---------- Section 15 ---------- This fast section starts with twin lines, then moves to satellites and curving waves [turrets are present during all of this]. If you can survive all of that, then you can take either exit to reach section 18. ---------- Section 16 ---------- Shoot the thin enemies when they're in the wider parts of the tunnel, then fly past them as they spread. Keep right until you find the generator. This generator is extremely annoying to destroy, but using a barrier shield makes it a lot easier. Use one and line up your shots, then just fire as fast as you can. The shield absorbs as many shots as it can, then you take a bit of damage before the generator is destroyed. Take the energy upgrade afterwards and choose an exit. Up = Section 15 **fast section** Down = Section 18 **no enemies** ---------- Section 17 ---------- Shoot twin lines of enemies at the start and a pair of small waves, then deal with turrets and two large waves. Grab the barrier shield on the ground and shoot more turrets, then take the exit to the boss in section 19. ---------- Section 18 ---------- No enemies here, simply choose an exit. Up = Section 16 **generator** Down = Section 17 **locked, barrier shield** ---------- Section 19 ---------- This is the first boss of the game, there are 3 total and he is pretty easy. The boss slowly moves back and forth across the screen and fires two spreading waves of shots. Your shots bounce off him unless his mouth is open, which is when you want to attack. After about 15-20 hits, the boss is dead. Take the energy upgrade and use the exit to section 20. There's a new checkpoint in the game after the first two bosses. So you start at section 20 now if you die, instead of section 00. ############################################################################### (E-02) SECTIONS 20-39 ############################################################################### The path that I recommend for this third of the game is: 20-21-24-25-28-29-20-21-30-31-32-33-34-20-22-35-36-38-39. ---------- Section 20 ---------- Shoot the lines of enemies and turrets to start things off, then take the flash buster underneath the platform. Destroy some curving waves to find the exits. Up = Section 22 **milestone, barrier shield** Down = Section 21 **crash ball STS** ---------- Section 21 ---------- Shoot some turrets and parasites, then quickly shoot down low for a warp. Take the crash ball STS from inside and return to the section. Shoot a few more turrets to reach the exits. Up = Section 24 **megasmasher** Down = Section 30 **locked, barrier shield** ---------- Section 22 ---------- Shoot some U-path enemies and take the barrier shield on the ground, then destroy some turrets and two large waves. Up = Section 21 **crash ball STS** Down = Section 35 **locked, energy room, megasmasher** ---------- Section 23 ---------- Shoot the small waves first and kill some U-path enemies, then deal with curving waves. About 5 large waves and more curving waves are up next, then satellites from the left and the exits just beyond. Up = Section 25 **slow section** Down = Section 20 **backtrack, flashbuster** ---------- Section 24 ---------- Shoot two pairs of large robots and grab the megasmasher under the platform, then shoot a few more and pick an exit. Up = Section 23 **fast section** Down = Section 25 **slow section** ---------- Section 25 ---------- This stage starts with a new geyser enemy, they spit out arcing shots and are somewhat like turrets. Pick the top or bottom and destroy those in your way while speeding past the shots of the rest, then pick your exit. Up = Section 28 **megasmasher, flashbuster, energy room** Down = Section 26 **slow section, metal eater room** ---------- Section 26 ---------- Take the middle path as you deal with the thin enemies, then rush through the damaging barrier and shoot for a warp. Go inside and take any items, then return to the section. Go down to the bottom as you see the second barrier and shoot left for a second warp, then go through if you want to go to section 20 or 22. Otherwise stay away from the middle and shoot past the enemies to the exits. Normal: Up = Section 27 **fast section** Down = Section 21 **backtrack, crash ball STS** Warps: Left = Section 22 **milestone, barrier shield** Right = Section 20 **backtrack, flashbuster** ---------- Section 27 ---------- The only enemy in this stage is U-path enemies, but you need to watch out for damaging barriers. The barriers always come in twos and you go lower for the first and higher for the second. So dodge between them while avoiding/killing the enemies, then pick an exit. Up = Section 28 **megasmasher, flashbuster, energy room** Down = Section 29 **generator** ---------- Section 28 ---------- Shoot the jumpers and parasites and take the flashbuster from the ground, then watch for turrets. Look for a lone turret up ahead and shoot at the top above him to find a warp. Go inside for an energy room and use the left beam to restore 10 units [versus 2 from the right beam]. Return to the stage and fight more jumpers, then take the megasmasher on the ground. Fight off more jumpers to reach the exits. Up = Section 29 **generator** Down = Section 27 **fast section** ---------- Section 29 ---------- Shoot the thin enemies and fly past them as they spread. Keep right until you find the generator. This generator can be annoying to destroy, but using a barrier shield makes it a lot easier. Use one and line up your shots, then just fire as fast as you can. The shield absorbs as many shots as it can, then you take a bit of damage before the generator is destroyed. Take the energy upgrade afterwards and choose an exit. The locked door in section 21 is now open. Up = Section 24 **megasmasher** Down = Section 20 **backtrack, go here** ---------- Section 30 ---------- Shoot some small waves and some turrets up ahead, then grab the barrier shield from the ground. Destroy some U-path enemies before shooting curved waves, parasites, then pick an exit. Up = Section 22 **milestone, barrier shield** Down = Section 31 **no enemies** ---------- Section 31 ---------- There's no enemies here, so just take the exit to section 32. ---------- Section 32 ---------- In this section you fight the same boss that you fought earlier in section 19. Use the same strategy to beat him and go through the exit to section 33. ---------- Section 33 ---------- This fast section has you dodging barriers low/high like in section 27. The enemies include large waves and U-path enemies until you reach the exits [both lead to section 34]. ---------- Section 34 ---------- Shoot the thin enemies and fly past them as they spread. The locked door in section 22 is now open. Up = Section 23 **fast section** Down = Section 20 **backtrack, go here** ---------- Section 35 ---------- Shoot the parasites and take the middle path, then cross the damaging wall and shoot for a warp. Use the left beam inside to restore 10 units of health, then return to the section. Take the upper route next if you want the megasmasher, or take the lower route and shoot left for a warp. Inside the warp you can go to sections 21 or 27 if you want. Otherwise kill the parasites and go right to the exits. Normal: Up = Section 36 **energy room** Down = Section 37 **flashbuster** Warps: Left = Section 21 **crash ball STS** Right = Section 27 **fast section** ---------- Section 36 ---------- Kill the harpoon enemies in this section and shoot near the top for a warp. Use the left beam inside to restore 15 units of health [versus 3 units for the right beam]. Up = Section 38 **milestone** Down = Section 35 **energy room, megasmasher** ---------- Section 37 ---------- Kill the geysers and U-path enemies as you dodge the barriers and take the flashbuster on the ground. Head right a bit more to find the exits. Up = Section 36 **energy room** Down = Section 38 **milestone** ---------- Section 38 ---------- Destroy some parasites and take the only exit to the second boss in section 39. ---------- Section 39 ---------- This is the second boss of the game, and he's harder than the first. The boss slowly moves around the room and fires four spiked balls on the diagonals. Each one of these shots bounces once and explodes the next time. You need to avoid the balls and the boss himself, while you shoot him. Use a barrier shield if you have one to make things easier. After about 20-25 hits, the boss is dead. Take the energy upgrade and use the exit to section 40. You start at section 40 now if you die, instead of section 00 or 20. ############################################################################### (E-03) SECTIONS 40-59 ############################################################################### The path that I recommend for this third of the game is: 40-42-41-44-45-46-48-47-49-41-43-42-41-43-51-52-53-55-54-56-57-58-59. Use the 42-41-43 loop as many times as needed to get full health and a barrier shield before heading to section 51. I also recommend using this loop before going to section 57, because the final boss is very close. ---------- Section 40 ---------- Shoot twin lines of enemies and turrets, then thin out some curved waves to find the exits. Up = Section 42 **barrier shield** Down = Section 41 **megasmasher, energy room** ---------- Section 41 ---------- Kill the twin lines of enemies and some turrets, then shoot curving waves of enemies and grab the megasmasher from the ground. A pair of new laser robots appear, so shoot along the ground for a warp. Use the left beam inside to restore 15 units of health [versus 3 units for the right beam], then return to the section. Now you need to shoot some new spinner enemies, and stay near the middle as you blast them and dodge their shots. Up = Section 44 **flashbuster** Down = Section 43 **no enemies** ---------- Section 42 ---------- Shoot parasites, jumpers and turrets, then grab the barrier shield on the ground. Shoot through more jumpers to reach the exits. Up = Section 41 **megasmasher, energy room** Down = Section 57 **milestone, flashbuster** ---------- Section 43 ---------- There's no enemies here, so avoid the walls and pick your exit. Up = Section 42 **barrier shield** Down = Section 51 **locked, milestone** ---------- Section 44 ---------- Shoot some new laser soldiers in this stage and some turrets up ahead, then roast some parasites and take the flashbuster on the ground. Shoot some more of all 3 enemies to reach the exit to section 45. ---------- Section 45 ---------- There's a miniboss here that fires spreading rings of shots as he moves around the room. Try your best to weave between the shots as you keep firing on him, and use a barrier shield if you want an easier time. After about 15-20 hits the boss changes forms. Now there's a teleporting circle of 8 smaller enemies, so try not to get touched by any of them. Keep shooting them and avoiding their shots instead. Once one takes enough hits it becomes a darker circle and won't take any more damage. Get all 8 enemies to this point to win the fight, then you can take the energy upgrade and use the exit to section 46. ---------- Section 46 ---------- Kill two large robots and take the megasmasher on top of the platform, then destroy two more robots and use the exits. Up = Section 50 **fast section** Down = Section 48 **barrier shield** ---------- Section 47 ---------- Fight some parasites and jumpers before the turrets appear, then watch as you pass a large platform and under a lower wall. There's a 5x2 platform here and a gap in the ceiling. Shoot right at the top just after this gap to find a warp. You WANT to take this warp, so go inside, then you can go to section 49 by taking either path inside. If for some reason you don't want to take the warp, then you get to fight U-path enemies and laser soldiers to reach the normal exits. Normal: Up = Section 46 **backtrack, megasmasher** Down = Section 50 **backtrack, fast section** Warps: Left = Section 49 **generator** Right = Section 49 **generator** ---------- Section 48 ---------- Destroy twin lines of enemies and pick up the barrier shield on the ground, then start shooting jumpers. Up = Section 46 **megasmasher** Down = Section 47 **milestone** ---------- Section 49 ---------- Shoot the thin enemies and fly past them as they spread in this open area. Keep right until you find the generator, which has no blocks that you can use for cover this time. The locked door in section 43 is now open. Up = Section 41 **megasmasher, energy room** Down = Section 57 **milestone, flashbuster** ---------- Section 50 ---------- This fast section has U-path enemies as the only foes. So shoot or avoid them as you weave between the barriers [usually above or through the middle]. Up = Section 48 **barrier shield** Down = Section 47 **milestone** ---------- Section 51 ---------- Fight off some harpoon enemies and some jumpers, then take the exit to section 52. ---------- Section 52 ---------- This section has you fighting the second boss from section 39 once more. Use the same strategy as before and use the barrier shield if you want to make things easier. Keep shooting him until the exit to section 53 appears, then take it. ---------- Section 53 ---------- Shoot the thin enemies and parasites here, then take the upper route and shoot up top for a warp. Go inside and use the left beam to restore 15 units of health [versus 3 units for the right beam], then return to the section. Destroy some more thin enemies to reach the exits. Up = Section 54 **flashbuster** Down = Section 55 **fast section, barrier shield** ---------- Section 54 ---------- Shoot twin lines of enemies and a wiggler, then take the flashbuster down low. Shoot up in the gap above and to the left of that item to find a warp. Take the warp unless you want to backtrack and get more energy or a barrier shield. Inside the warp room, both sides lead to section 56. If you don't take the warp, then you get to fight of laser soldiers to reach the normal exits. Normal: Up = Section 53 **energy room** Down = Section 55 **fast section, barrier shield** Warps: Left = Section 56 **generator** Right = Section 56 **generator** ---------- Section 55 ---------- Shoot the twin lines of enemies and small waves as you dodge the platforms. Take the barrier shield on top of a platform, then destroy U-path enemies, spinners and satellites. Up = Section 53 **energy room** Down = Section 54 **flashbuster** ---------- Section 56 ---------- Kill three twin lines of enemies and keep right until you find the generator. You can use the top left corner for cover if needed. The locked door in section 57 is now open. Up = Section 42 **megasmasher, energy room** Down = Section 57 **milestone, flashbuster** ---------- Section 57 ---------- Kill geysers and parasites as you take the flashbuster on the ground, then shoot more of both as you hit the exits. Up = Section 43 **no enemies** Down = Section 58 **locked, no enemies** ---------- Section 58 ---------- There aren't any enemies, so simply fly right to the final boss in section 59. ---------- Section 59 ---------- Try your best to weave between the tight barriers, then go right to face off with the final boss. This guy has four turrets on your left that you can destroy for items as they respawn. He also has a barrier in front of him that reflects your shots. You need to shoot the red balls at the top and bottom of this barrier to get rid of it temporarily. At this point you can shoot the boss freely and deal some damage to him. Use your barrier shield at the start, once that's gone you should shoot away the turrets and one half of the barrier as you score some hits. Repeat this until your health gets lower, then just focus on the turrets for items. It's a longer battle, but if you play it safe like this, you should come out on top in the end after about 30-40 hits and finish the game! ############################################################################### (F) THANKS ############################################################################### Thanks go out to the following contributors: Mr Nutz Seal80 ############################################################################### (G) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here.
