I lost my game with 299/300 cards. I have no clue where I put it my cartridge, but hopefully will find it soon. Since I haven't been able to find it for a few days now I've decided to go ahead and release this version of the FAQ. Please DO NOT e-mail me any more card statistics people, I've got all 300! I just gotta find my damn game to type the rest up. ;p NOTES ON THIS UPDATE: The complete SNK and Action card lists are still not up yet, but I have made a number of changes and additions to this FAQ based on the english version. Changes include: - Reworked Capcom section to reflect English changes. - Added details on how to get all the "S" cards. - Added a few sections about the difference between versions. - A few other minor changes... ---------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTICE: I know this FAQ is incomplete, and the odds are at times it won't be updated that much. To be blunt, I've been getting rather bored of writing FAQs, and after this one(in addition to updates to my other FAQs even- tually) I may not write anymore. (Well, maybe a movelist when the fighting game version of SNK vs. Capcom comes out ;p). Anyways, to sum up... please don't e-mail me asking when this FAQ will be updated or anything along those lines(including asking for an updated version made for you personally... believe it or not, ppl actually ask for that!). ---------------------------------------------- ||-----------------|| ||Table of Contents|| ||-----------------|| 1. Basic Rules 2. Version Differences 3. Japanese/English Version Changes 4. Menu Translations 5. Card List 6. Secrets 7. Credits ---------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE JAPANESE AND ENGLISH VERSIONS The two different language versions are entirely compatible(with the exception of the infared connection which is not supported by the english version). Also, if you are wondering why the "Card Album" data option does not work that is because it is meant for Snk Vs. Capcom Match of the Millenium, not for transference between two versions of Card Fighters. ---------------------------------------------- .----------------. | 1. Basic Rules | '----------------' One of the key points to playing this game is, obviously, knowing how to. :) And, because it is in Japanese, many of those reading this FAQ probably have no clue what the hell to do. Here, I'll quickly go over the basics of play and such. (( IMPORTANT NOTE )) The following rules and such were written based on the Japanese version, and while none of the fundamental rules have changed some of the terminology has. Over the next few updates I may update these rules to reflect the official translation. --------------- Getting Started --------------- At the beginning of a match 2 things will happen. 1) Both you are your opponent's cards are shuffled. 2) A roullette system is used to choose who goes first. Your opening strategy will greatly depend on this. During the actual match, you and your opponent will take turns consisting of a few different possible actions. At the beginning of each turn you will draw a new card from your deck into your current hand, and it is possible some special abilities(see further down) may be used automatically at this point. Each match, both you and your opponent have a number of hitpoints. The object is to use your cards to take down your opponent's hitpoints to 0. This isn't anywhere near as straight forward as it sounds though, as to reach that goal you must battle through your opponent's cards. ---------------------- The Two Types of Cards ---------------------- There are two types of cards you collect throughout the game: Character Cards and Action Cards. Characters Cards are your standard cards, with which you attack, defend, etc. Action Cards however are used then discarded, and perform various effects. Some Action Cards may do damage to your enemy's Character Cards, some even skip Character Cards and do a bit of damage against your opponent directly! Damage is only the beginning when it comes to Action Cards though... Action Cards can also do anything from allow you to withdraw more cards from your deck, take back a defeated card, give you back some hitpoints, and a lot more! ---------------------------- Cards in Play, in Hand, etc. ---------------------------- First off, you have a deck of 50 cards. At the start of a match you get to withdraw the first 5 cards from the deck(in addition to the 1 card you will draw at the beginning of your first turn) into your starting hand. Any card in the deck can be considered your reserve, as until they are brought into your hand they are completly useless. So, now both players have a hand of cards, which on average is made up of about 5-7 cards(but can become considerably less or more depending on your strategy). The cards in your hand can not be used in offense, defense, etc, but they are the cards from with which you have immediate acess to call forth a replacement for a defeated card into play, and where your unused Action cards are held. The cards you are actively using will be refered to as "In Play" for the purpose of this FAQ(the actual terminolgy when translated may be a little different). Each player can have up to three cards in play at any given time. Your In Play cards are the ones you actively use to deal out(and take) damage. ---------------- Taking Your Turn ---------------- Once your turn starts there are a number of actions for you to do: 1) You can bring one card in your hand into play. 2) You can use a card in your hand to power up one of your cards already in play(see further down for more on these "Helpers"). 3) Use action cards, provided you have enough SP(see further down). 4) Make an attack(see further down... again). 5) Use a special ability of one of your cards currently in play. 6) And after you are satisfied that you have done all that you can/want to do of the above, you can end your turn. And of course after you end your turn, it is your opponent's chance to do all of the above. If you attack with a card(or cards) you will not be able to use them to defend against your opponent's cards during their following turn. In other words, if your enemy has some extremely powerful cards in play, don't blindly send all your cards in to attack, as they could easily whipe you out in one turn since you would be totally defenseless. :) When you bring a card into play for the first time, it can not attack or use it's special ability immediatly, but it CAN defend against your opponent's attacks. --------- Attacking --------- Any cards who have not just been brought into play or have been adversely affected by an opponent(through an Action Card or Character's Ability) can attack. The way battles work is this... 1) You choose the cards you want to attack. Lets say that you attack with a Ryu(Z) and Ken card. Ryu(Z) has a BP of 500 and Ken has a BP of 700. 2) Your opponent would then have the choice to defend against your attack or simply let it go by. But lets say your opponent fought back, using a Nakoruru(BP 600) against Ryu and a Nash(BP 600) against Ken. 3) The battle begins! Since Ryu(Z) has 500 BP, he would do 500 damage to Nakoruru, taking her down to 100 BP remaining. Since Nakoruru has 600 BP(at the start of the attack) she would do 600 damage to Ryu taking him down to -100 BP. In other words, bye bye Ryu. Ken would then proceed to do 700 damage against Nash, reducing him to -100 BP as well, but Nash would also do his original 600 BP worth of damage against Ken reducing Ken to 100 BP. 4) Now lets pretend that you attacked with Ryu and Ken, but the only defense your opponent brings out is Nash to fight Ken. Ken would kill Nash, Nash would reduce Ken to 100 BP like before. Ryu however, unopposed, would do his 500 damage against your opponent's HP(usually 2000), thus reducing their HP by 500(to what would be about usually 1500). Attacking requires a lot of forethought and strategy, as you NEVER want to leave yourself open to an all out beat down from your opponent. Also, if you are attacked, it is important to know whether or not you can benefit from not retaliation. For example: If you have 2000 HP, and your opponent has 800 HP left. Your Opponent attacks you with Nash, Ryu, and Sakura(600 BP/500 BP/500 BP). This adds up to 1600 HP worth of damage. But, if you happen to have out a card of someone like Vega(Bison) who has 800 BP(or for that matter two cards that add up to 800 BP) to do damage with, don't defend. You will take 1600 damage, reuducing you to 400, but when its your turn, your opponent will have no defenses to stop you and you will kill them so that it doesn't matter that you now have only 400 HP left! In addition to the usual attacks, you can do a special attack with multiple cards. To do a joint attack with two cards, it costs 5 SP, and three cards costs 10 SP. What this essentially does is combine these cards attack into one, and allows the attack to continue on even after an attack verse a defending card is done. Here is an example: 1) You choose to use Dhalsim(BP 400) and Nash(BP 600) in a joint attack, in that order. 2) Your opponent can only choose one card to defend against a joint attack, so lets say they choose Zangief(BP 700). 3) The attack commences... Dhalsim first does 400 BP daamage to Zangief, and Zangief does 700 BP damage to Dhalsim. This kills Dhalsim and reduces Zangief to 300 BP. The Nash comes in. Zangief does 300 BP damage to Nash and Nash does 600 BP damage to Zangief. This kills Zangief and reduces Nash to 300 BP. 4) Now this is where the real benefit of this type of attack comes in. Nash will go on past Zangief and do his remaining 300 BP damage against your opponent's HP! This attack is very useful, but don't think it is neccesarily always better than the standard attack. For example, say you had three cards out with 400 BP each, and your opponent had out a single card with 1200 BP. If you did a joint attack, their one card would kill all of yours and you'd kill off their card. However, if you did all normal attacks and they retaliated(which they most definitly would unless their next attack was a killing blow) then you would do 400 BP damage to their card, lose one card, and do 800 BP damage to your opponent's HP! Wow, I used a lot of exclamation marks in this section. ---------------------------------------- SP and Use of Action Cards and Abilities ---------------------------------------- Everytime you bring a new card from your hand into play, you gain a certain number of SP depending on the card. SP stands for Soul Points, and are used for things such as using most Action Cards and some Chara Card's Special Abilities. If you choose to use an Action Card, they will usually take away some of your SP. For example the card "Engoshageki" will use up 4 SP and allow you to do 300 damage to an enemy Chara Card of your choice. There are 3 types of Special Abilities, each denoted by a different shape. They are: Triangle - Used when brought into play. Square - You must manually choose to use the ability. Circle - Lasts the entire time the card is in play. Special Abilities that use SP seem to be pretty uncommon though they do exist. Some simply will do an attack such as not allow an enemy Chara Card to attack for their next turn, others however are a true penalty. Take the card "Vlodia" for example. Vlodia is a non-rare card with 1000 BP... this may sound great, but is significantly balanced out by making it so you have to have 10 SP to use the card in the first place. --------------------- Chara Card Statistics --------------------- Each of your Character Cards(called Chara Cards for short) are unique in a number of ways. BP: This is essentially your Hit Points and Damage rolled into one. As you take Damage from your enemy, your attack lowers as well. For Example: Ken has a BP of 700. This allows him to do 700 points of damage if he attacks. If he is attacked however by, lets say, Sakura who has a BP of 500, Ken's 700 will kill Sakura's 500, and Sakura's 500 will take Ken down to 200. From then on Ken can only do up to 200 damage(unless augmented by a helper or Action Card). SP: This is how many SP points bringing the Chara Card into play gives you. SP is used for a large number of things, such as using Action Cards, Joint Attacks, and for some Special Abilities. Special Ability: This is noted by either a circle, square, or triangle to the left of the BP amount. If the character does not have a special ability then there is simply no shape. Each character's ability is different, and used in different ways. For example, when brought into play Nakoruru will give you back 500 HP. Ryu(Z) however will be able to use an Action Card in your hand to do a hadoken on an opponent's card doing damage, and putting the used Action Card back into your deck. When you view your character in full screen status it will detail what that character's special is. Unfourtunatly for most people this description is all in Japanese. :) Helpers: To be honest, I'm not really sure what to refer to this statistic as, but Helpers will do for now. When you look at the in depth card statistics, it will list several names of other characters in the top right corner(beneath the affiliated company logo and a card number). If you use any of the cards listed as helpers, on the card while in play it will get an additional 300 BP. For example Ryu(B)(from Breath Of Fire) has Nina(also from BoF of course) as a helper. If you had Ryu(B) in play, you could use Nina on Ryu(B) and Ryu(B) would get an extra 300 BP. A card is layed out as below: (Note, the two following examples are taken from Nakoruru's card.) ___________________ | ________________ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Portrait | | < This is the Character's | | | | Picture. | | | | | |______________| | | |CHARACTER NAME| | < This is (obviously) the | |--------------| | Character's Name. | | %% BP 600| | %% = Special Ability Icon | | SP + 4| | BP = Battle Points | |______________| | SP = Soul Points |__________________| When you view the card in full screen the screen is layed out like: ______________________ | _______ | No.S035 | < "No.S035" means SNK | |Card | | SNK | card #35 | |seen | '''''''''| | |here.| Helpers: | < These are the card's | | | *Galford | possible helpers. | |_____| *Rimururu| | .................. | ||Special Ability || < This is their Special || +500 HP || Ability's description. ||__________________|| '''''''''''''''''''''' ---------------------------------------------------- What do the (P), (Z), and (B) mean after some names? ---------------------------------------------------- The (Z) and (B) are obvious, but the (P) through me off until I read through a section of SNK's website. First off, (Z) denotes that the character version is from the Street Fighter Alpha (Zero in Japan) series. (B) just references to the other Ryu from the Breath of Fire series. (P) is rather obscure however, and denotes a "plain-clothed" version of the card(only Kyo and Morrigan have (P) versions). .------------------------. | 2. Version Differences | '------------------------' The Capcom and SNK supporter versions both have a lot of various differences (like Pokemon). Heres a quick list of the ones I know about (and all are confirmed on the SNK website): ____________________________________________________ SNK | CAPCOM -------------------------|-------------------------- - The main characters; | - The main characters; Shin and Kei in the | Cap and Comet in the SNK version. | Capcom version. | - Blue Mary, Geese, | - Karin, Alex, Mr. Karate, | Akira(Unmasked), R Shiki(Slash), Maxima, | Arrimaa, Mecha Zangief, are all exlusive to | are exclusive to the the SNK version. | Capcom version. | - Beat Gemant 10 times | - Beat Gemant 10 times for Orochi, and 30 | for Lucifer, and 30 times for Lucifer. | times for Orochi. | - Special title screens | - Special title screens unique to the SNK | unique to the Capcom version including | version including Mai Nakoruru Vs. Japanese/English Version Changes | '-------------------------------------' Well, I've noticed a few differences between the English and Japanese version and here they are.... - The character bio screens were entirely removed... - Fei Long's name was screwed up and made Fei Ling... - Chon Shou's name was also screwed up and made Chong Shou... - Other typos galore... - Practically all the Action cards were renamed... - Minor graphical changes to reflect the english langauge... - A lot of player's names were changed(such as Gemant to Mask)... - Guy and Rose's places were switched... - It seems that both places that there is a weird link option(the crate in the back room of the Lost World and the arcade machines in the bottom left of Neo Geo World) have been removed entirely... If there are any more character name screw-ups, Im going to have to start a list of them here... because like hell I'm going to acknowledge the wrong names within the card list in this FAQ... And while not a quite a change between the two versions, there is an error in the "Tri-Quiz" description. It says you can use it as a "Grenade", "Prayer", or "Showtime!" when there is no "Prayer" card and they mean "Grace". One of the things that was not changed that I was sure it would be is that while it is called the Resident Evil mansion in the game, the little icon where the coin goes later was left saying "Bio-hazard". Overall, this is an ususually very crappy translation. The character dialouge is practically unreadable at parts... Hopefully this will all be corrected in future presses of the game. .----------------------. | 4. Menu Translations | '----------------------' I have written FAQs including the Japanese text for comparison before, and it seems to be pretty well received. If you would like me to add the Japanese text here too, please e-mail me and I'll add it in the next update. :) --------- Main Menu --------- This is the menu you bring up when you press "Option" while walking around. Status Card Save Message Correspond(lit. Communicate) The "Status" screen shows the following: ______________________ | _______ SC COIN | | |Pic | * * * | | |Here_| * * * | | Name | |--------------------| | CPU: -- -- -- | < Vs. The "Save" screen brings up a simple Yes and No option. Yes saves and No doesn't. ;p (Yes is left, No is right.) The "Message" option allows you to choose the message speed. The order is: "Slow / Medium / Fast". This final option, "Correspond", is for things such as playing versus games over a link cable and such. The other options under it are below. Battle(Vs. Game) Give Cards Receive Cards Connection(Transfer Card Data to MotM) Establish Wireless Connection ----------- Card Screen ----------- When you open the card screen, you will see a list of your current decks as well as four options at the bottom. The options are as follows: Manage Decks Set Current Deck Card Album Change Deck Name Manage Decks lets you choose which cards you want in your Decks, create new decks(if you have at least 50 unused cards), and delete decks. When you choose the option you first choose a deck(or a blank space to make a new deck). From there you change the number of which card you want. When you want to leave the Manage mode press "B" until it gives you three options at the top in Japanese. The Options are in order: "Exit(and save changes) / Delete Deck / Exit(and don't save changes)". Card Album lets you view a list of the cards you have collected(like the Pokedex in Pokemon). Set Current Deck lets you choose which deck to use in combat if you have more than one. Change Deck Name simply lets you rename your decks of course. :) ----------- Combat Menu ----------- This will be the most important part of the game, so it would probably be best to memorize what does what. The list is from left to right, top to bottom. Look at/Use current Hand Examine Cards Explanation(ex: Directions) Attack Abilities End Turn Look at/Use current Hand allows you to look at the data of your current hand and bring them into play. When you choose a card on this screen the options you get are Bring into Play Data Examine cards lets you look at the Data of cards in Play, as well as defeated cards for both players. Explanation enters a screen that is filled with the instructions on how to play... in Japanese. Attack will, obviously, do an attack. When attacking if you are given multiple options, the ones with the numbers are 2 and 3 card joint attacks. Abilities will allow you to call upon one of your In Play card's special ability. End Turn... Hmm... I wonder what it does. ;p ------------ Under Attack ------------ Whenever you are attacked you get three options, here they are from left to right, top to bottom. (*) - Means unconfirmed. This is stuff that people have sent me and I trust the information enough to post it, but I have not personally confirmed. (More or less, if you can't get something with a * to work, e-mail me and I will ask the person who sent it in a bit more about it.) If an asterik is by a character's name that means the entire card is unconfirmed. --------- SNK CARDS --------- __________________________________________________________ ########################################################## S001 - Terry (from Fatal Fury series) Rarity: B BP: 1000 SP: + 3 Helpers: Andy ? They are: Capcom | SNK -----------------------+------------- 0% | Terrry Vs. Ryu | ??? 50% | Mai Vs. Chun-Li | ??? 90% | Iori Vs. Akuma | ??? (Note: I have the SNK ones, I just have to check what they are.) -------------------- Hear Chun Li's Music -------------------- You can listen to the classic music from Chun Li's stage by going in Plaza Capcom and looking at one of the vertically placed arcade machines on the left side of the first room. It is the one just above the blonde haired kid on the middle row of machines(the ones with their screens facing left). ------------------------- Hear Psycho Soldier Music ------------------------- Similar to the above, you can also listen to music from King of Fighters at Neo Geo Land. The song has been identified to me by someone as the Psycho Soldier theme from King of Fighters 97 and below. Anyways, to listen to it talk to the kid in the top right of Neo Geo Land and answer his question "yes"(left option). You will fight him in a quick round of King of Fighters(just text, not like a mini-game ;p) and you will get to hear the music. -------------- Megacrash Card -------------- After you beat the game, go fight Gemant in the upstairs cafe at Neo Geo Land. After that go to the backroom of the Lost World(to see how to get back there look at how to get the Reset Button card above). Gemant should be standing in the top middle of the room. Now you can open that cabinet in the top right without that guy stopping you! ------------- Slot Machines ------------- You can play the Slot Machines in Plaza Capcom. When you win you get a huge number of the same card you bet. PAYOFFS: 777 - x30 3 Birds - x15 3 POW - x15 3 Bats - x8 3 Cherries- x8 3 Bullets - x4 .------------. | 7.
