Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Mario Party 3 is the newly-released game in the series of the highly popular party game for the Nintendo 64. It was recently released in the US, and it is by all means MUCH better than the first two games of this series! There are new characters and options, plus there are 70 BRAND NEW mini-games to try! If you liked the previous two games in the series, then you should definitely pick up a copy of this game soon! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Story -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In the center of the vast universe, a remarkably bright star was born. It was a star that is born only once in a thousand years, the Millenium Star. According to legend, whoever possessed this mystical star was destined to become the Superstar of the universe. However, since the Millenium Star was but a newborn, it fell from the starry sky. Around that time, Mario and his friends were all happily relaxing when suddenly the Millenium Star came crashing down. Mario and his friends soon began arguing about who should keep the Millenium Star. Suddenly, the Millenium Star gave off a brilliantly bright flash of light. And with that bright flash, Mario and his friends were transported inside a toy box! "Greetings. I am the Millenium Star. You must pass my test to prove yourself worthy of possessing me. You must journey across many lands and collect the Star Stamps. If you can collect all seven, I shall accept you as the top Superstar in the universe." ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. In the Story Mode, there is some sort of story you're following which involves playing on many game boards and trying to collect the most Stars. After you go through the movie sequences that tell the story, you'll be brought to the main game area. In Party Mode, you automatically get brought to the main area. There are a few things you can do at that point: Mushroom Castle: Here, you can enter either of the side rooms to listen to sound tests. You can enter the middle room and talk to the red or green Koopas to view some game records. Party Map/Blue Star: Here, you play the regular 4-player boards. You must play each one in order in Story Mode, but you can select any one you want in Party Mode. Mini-Game Room/Yellow Star: You cannot access this area while playing in Story Mode. However, in Party Mode, you can go here and play any mini-games you already revealed in the game itself. Duel Map/Red Star: Here, you and another character will play on a special battle map, where you must use helpers to defeat the other person and win. Millenium Star: In Story Mode, select this silver star to hear about how you're being graded when completing the boards, in the form of Star Levels. Below, I'll list the 4 ranks and the requirements for each Star Level in each game mode. =========== Star Levels =========== In Story Mode, you are given a rank in the form of a Star Level after completing each Battle Royal or Duel Maps. The four ranks are S, A, B, and C; each one is gained according to your performance in the board maps. If you manage to beat Story Mode with high ranks, there will be hidden areas unlocked in the game (check the Secrets section of this guide for more detailed information). Here, I'll list those requirements for each rank: S Rank ------ Battle Royal: Win the board and have at least 2 more Stars than the 2nd place winner (after the bonus stars are given out). Duel: Win the board and have at least 3 more pieces of the heart than your opponent. A Rank ------ Battle Royal: Win the board and have at least 1 more Star than the 2nd place winner (after the bonus stars are given out). Duel: Win the board and have at least 2 more pieces of the heart than your opponent. B Rank ------ Battle Royal: Have the same amount of Stars as the 2nd place winner, but win the board by having more Coins. Duel: Win the board and have at least 1 more piece of the heart than your opponent. C Rank ------ Battle Royal: Have the same amount of Stars and Coins as the 2nd place winner, but win by rolling a higher number on the dice block. Duel: Have the same amount of pieces of heart as your opponent, but win by having more Coins. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6. Story Mode Guide -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Pre-Game Settings ----------------- Before you start Story Mode for the first time, there are a few settings you must adjust before you play, including the player you wish to use (Waluigi and Daisy are NOT accessible in Story Mode), the difficulty setting of the game, and if you want all mini-games or just the easy ones. Those settings are kept until you complete Story Mode or if you start a new file. Also, you play for 15 turns on each board in this mode. Game Order ---------- Story Mode is a little different than the rest of the game because of the set order you do things in. Here is the order in which you take on the regular (also known as Battle Royal Maps), the Duel Maps, and which Star Stamp you win and where: Battle Royal Map 1 - Chilly Waters Duel Map 1 - Gate Guy (Wit Star Stamp) Battle Royal Map 2 - Deep Bloober Sea Duel Map 2 - Arrowhead (Kindness Star Stamp) Battle Royal Map 3 - Spiny Desert Duel Map 3 - Pipesqueak (Strength Star Stamp) Battle Royal Map 4 - Woody Woods Duel Map 4 - Blowhard (Love Star Stamp) Battle Royal Map 5 - Creepy Cavern Duel Map 5 - Mr. Mover (Courage Star Stamp) Daisy Duel Map - Backtrack (Beauty Star Stamp) Waluigi Battle Royal Map - Waluigi's Island (Mischief Star Stamp) VS. Millennium Star (Stardust Battle) After you beat the first 5 regular/Duel boards, Daisy will appear and you'll have to play her on the Backtrack Duel board. When you beat that, you will then be challenged by Waluigi, and you'll play him on his regular game board, known as Waluigi's Island. After you beat his board, the Millennium Star will be floating in the air in the main area. Select it and you'll have to play against it in a mini-game where you must defeat Millennium Star. Information on this game will be at the end of the Mini-Games section of the guide. When you beat that, you will have completed the entire Story Mode and the credits will show. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 7. Items -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There is a wide variety of items that you can obtain throughout the levels to help you and/or harm others. You can buy most of these items from the Item Shops run by Toad or Baby Bowser, get them as prizes in Item Games, or have them given to you randomly when landing on an Item Space. Here, I'll list all the items along with their prices if bought, who you can buy them from, and what they do. Regular Items ------------- Mushroom Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When used, you get to hit 2 dice blocks instead of one (for that turn only) and the numbers on both blocks will combine and that's how much you'll move. If you get the same number on both blocks, you'll gain 20 Coins as an added prize. Skeleton Key Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Toad or Baby Bowser Information: You can unlock locked doors in your path with this Key. It disappears after you use it, though. Poison Mushroom Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When you use this, the character you used it on will only be able to roll from 1 to 3 on the dice block when it's their turn (only lasts for one turn though). Reverse Mushroom Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When used, it makes the character used on move in the other direction on their turn. Cellular Shopper Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When used, you can summon Toad or Baby Bowser and buy an item from them on the spot. Warp Block Price: 5 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When used, you trade places with a random character on the board. Plunder Chest Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: You can steal another character's item with this. You can pick who to steal from, but you don't choose which of their items you get. Bowser Phone Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When used, you can summon Bowser and send him after another character. That person must then go through Bowser's roulette and accept whatever happens. Dueling Glove Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When used, you and the character of your choice must wager an amount of Coins and play a Duel game to decide who wins them. Lucky Lamp Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When used, Mushroom Jeanie appears and causes the location of Millennium Star to change, meaning that the star location on the board will change to a random place. Golden Mushroom Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When used, 3 dice blocks appear for you to use. The amounts on each will combine and that's how far you move. Bowser Suit Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When used, it outfits the character used on with a Bowser suit. After they hit the dice block, whoever's in their path gives you 20 Coins. Boo Repellant Price: 10 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When you have this item, if anyone sends Boo after you to steal Coins or Stars, this spray will scare it away. Boo Bell Price: 15 Coins Buy From: Baby Bowser Information: When used, you can summon Boo to steal Coins or Stars from other players. Magic Lamp Price: 20 Coins Buy From: Toad Information: When you use this item, you can summon a genie to take you to Millennium Star so you can buy a Star. It's recommended that you have 20 Coins to spare before using this, or you'll just be wasting this item. Item Bag Price: 30 Coins Buy From: Toad or Baby Bowser Information: When you buy this item, you can get random items from it by hitting it. Rare Items ---------- Note that the following items are rare, and therefore cannot be bought from any shop. You obtain them by either landing on an Item Space, getting them from Hidden Blocks, or from within Item Bags. Koopa Card Price: Cannot be bought Information: If you have this item, you'll automatically be able to take all the Coins out of a Koopa Bank when you pass it on the board. This item is EXTREMELY rare, and can only be gotten from an Item Space. Barter Box Price: Cannot be bought Information: When you get this rare item, you can use it to trade all your items for another player's items. Lucky Charm Price: Cannot be bought Information: Use this to make the Game Guy appear, then you can send him to another player to play a Gambling mini-game. It's another really rare, but sometimes useful, item. Wacky Watch Price: Cannot be bought Information: When used, it causes there to be 5 turns remaining in the current game. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 8. Game Boards -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ================= Battle Royal Maps ================= Chilly Waters ------------- Blue Spaces: 52 Red Spaces: 12 Bowser Spaces: 6 "!" Spaces: 3 Battle Spaces: 6 Happening Spaces: 9 Item Spaces: 11 Koopa Bank Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: If a character is on a space along the upper, left or right sides of the board, and someone steps on a "?" Space, an Action Event will start. A giant snowball will start rolling along the north path and any characters in its way must jump or they'll be pushed to the right side. The snowball will then roll along a side path, and anyone who gets in its way will be sent to the end of the path. However, this Action Event may not occur if the snowman does not wake up after you land on a Happening Space. If that's the case, then consider yourself lucky! Hazards: In the middle area of the board, it is very icy. From the center, you will see several paths branching out with small hills dividing that area from the rest of the board. If you get to that middle area and choose a path, you'll have to go up the small hill to proceed. Most of the time you do, but if you don't, you're stuck on the space before the hill until your next turn. Deep Bloober Sea ---------------- Blue Spaces: 44 Red Spaces: 4 Bowser Spaces: 5 "!" Spaces: 3 Battle Spaces: 5 Happening Spaces: 16 Item Spaces: 12 Koopa Bank Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: At the upper-left section of the map, there are several Happening Spaces lined up. There is a giant vacuum-type creature sitting alongside that area. If you step on one of those spaces, it'll start to suck you in, so press A repeatedly to avoid being sucked in. If you can't escape, you'll be shot in whatever direction the arrow on top of it was pointing towards. Hazards: There is an intersection between two paths at the left side of the board. When you try to pass, a shark will let you pass only if you push a button on a panel. If you push the wrong button and pass, a Bullet Bill will shoot you so you end up going down the opposite path. If you aren't shot, then you just continue on the path you want. Also, in between the two parallel middle paths sits a giant Bloober. If you step on a Happening Space on either of those paths, the Bloober will pull you to the other path, and vice versa. Spiny Desert ------------ Blue Spaces: 56 Red Spaces: 6 Bowser Spaces: 5 "!" Spaces: 3 Battle Spaces: 6 Happening Spaces: 9 Item Spaces: 11 Koopa Bank Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: Near the middle of this board, there is an intersection where you can choose to either continue along the path, or go through the desert. Going through the desert requires you to press A to jump over the catcus in the way. If you don't jump, you'll be sent all the way to the side of the board. Hazards: There are 2 sections of the board where the path goes in a circle around a sand pit. There are also many Happening Spaces around it as well. If you step on one, whoever is standing around that center area will be sucked in and brought to the other circular area on the board. Woody Woods ----------- Blue Spaces: 48 Red Spaces: 7 Bowser Spaces: 4 "!" Spaces: 2 Battle Spaces: 5 Happening Spaces: 9 Item Spaces: 13 Koopa Bank Spaces: 1 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: At one intersection in the upper-left area of this board, there's a giant tree. It'll tell you about two types of fruit within its branches, then offer you the chance to pick one of them. You must pick either the left or the right fruit, then after you pick one, you find out what you'll get (either you get to roll again, or you get some Coins). Hazards: When you come to some intersections, you'll see a large hole next to a signpost with an arrow on it. If you land on a Happening Space before that, you'll cause the mole inside the hole to come out and change the direction the sign's pointing, making it so you can only pass in whatever direction it's pointing at. Creepy Cavern ------------- Blue Spaces: 50 Red Spaces: 6 Bowser Spaces: 4 "!" Spaces: 2 Battle Spaces: 5 Happening Spaces: 14 Item Spaces: 10 Koopa Bank Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: There are two sets of train tracks that travel from the left side of the board to the right side. If you move along the spaces on the tracks and the train is at the station, you'll be given the option to jump on the train by the Thwomp onboard for 5 Coins. After you pay, the Action Event starts; you must press A at the right time to jump onto the train, or else you'll be stuck on that side of the board and will have to continue normally. Hazards: In the two middle paths going up and down, there's a giant Whomp that's lying across one side of the path. If you have a Skeleton Key, you can use it to make the Whomp fall back across the other side, giving you access. If you land on a Happening Space near this blockade in the path, it'll make the Whomp switch sides so it blocks the opposite path instead. If you land on a Happening Space on the train tracks, the train will come and make you run down the track to a safe spot at the end. Waluigi's Island ---------------- Blue Spaces: 45 Red Spaces: 19 Bowser Spaces: 4 "!" Spaces: 2 Battle Spaces: 5 Happening Spaces: 10 Item Spaces: 9 Koopa Bank Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Item Shops: 2 Action Event: At the north end of the circular path, you have the option to jump across the water to an intersection. A light will spin around the 3 arrows at the other side, and the Action Event is to jump so you'll land when it's pointing in the direction you wish to go. Hazards: At the south area of the map, there's a circular path with a few Happening Spaces on it. If you land on one of the Happening Spaces, the timer in the middle counts down from 5. If it reaches zero (by landing on Happening Spaces several times), the dynamite will go off and all players on the surrounding path lose all their Coins! In the upper-left area of the map, there's an island you can only access by crossing one of two drawbridges connected to it. If you land on a Happening Space near one of those bridges, one bridge will lower while the other one will raise. Also, on that island, the spaces change with each turn, so be careful if you go there! ========= Duel Maps ========= Gate Guy -------- Basic Spaces: 15 Mini-Game Spaces: 2 Power-Up Spaces: 1 Backwards Spaces: 4 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Happening Spaces: 3 Information: There is a path going down through the middle of this board. Both ends of it are guarded by gates, and you must pay 5 Coins if you want to go down that path. Alongside that middle path sits a Belltop, and each time you pass him, he'll count down from 5. Once it reaches zero, both characters will play a Duel Game and whoever wins will get 20 Coins. Arrowhead --------- Basic Spaces: 17 Mini-Game Spaces: 3 Power-Up Spaces: 2 Backwards Spaces: 2 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Happening Spaces: 2 Information: There's nothing of real importance in this level. It's just a basic and very straightforward board. In the middle area, the Belltop is there and when he counts down to 0, you enter a Duel Game with the opponent for a chance to win 20 Coins. Pipesqueak ---------- Basic Spaces: 13 Mini-Game Spaces: 1 Power-Up Spaces: 1 Backwards Spaces: 4 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Happening Spaces: 2 Information: At each of the 4 corners of this board, you are given the option to continue on the path or jump into the pipe to get across to another point on the board. Also, the Belltop is at the halfway point on the bottom path, and you should know the drill on him by now. Blowhard -------- Basic Spaces: 12 Mini-Game Spaces: 2 Power-Up Spaces: 2 Backwards Spaces: 0 Game Guy Spaces: 6 Happening Spaces: 3 Information: At the middle intersection of this board, there is a giant fan in the floor. When you pass over it, it switches the position of your partner(s), which can be to your advantage if you're lucky. Also, the Belltop counts down each time you pass through this middle intersection. Mr. Mover --------- Basic Spaces: 18 Mini-Game Spaces: 2 Power-Up Spaces: 3 Backwards Spaces: 1 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Happening Spaces: 3 Information: Along the south end of the board, there's a conveyor belt that moves in one direction. After each turn, it changes direction from moving left to right, or vice versa. Backtrack --------- Basic Spaces: 8 Mini-Game Spaces: 2 Power-Up Spaces: 2 Backwards Spaces: 5 Game Guy Spaces: 2 Happening Spaces: 2 Information: In each of the 5 corners of this star-shaped map, there is a Backwards Space. If you land on one, it'll switch the direction that the sign nearby is pointing, causing you to move in the opposite direction for your next turn. It also switches the position of your partner(s) in the process. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 9. Duel Map Helpers Guide -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In the special Duel Maps, you and one other player must battle each other using helpers. Each character comes with a helper when you pick them, and each one has its advantages and disadvantages. The only way to win in these Duel Maps is to attack the other player with your helper characters. Each helper can perform a certain amount of damage from the opponent, and they have a certain amount of damage they can take before being defeated. If an attack does more damage than required to knock out your partner, the left over is carried on to you. For example, if I attacked the opponent with Snifit as my partner, and they had Toad behind them, the Toad would only absorb the 1 damage needed to kill it, and your opponent would take the 1 damage left over. Here, I'll list information on each helper along with information on each one. Koopa Troopa Comes with: Mario Attack: 1 Stamina: 2 Salary: 1 Coin per turn Goomba Comes with: Luigi Attack: 2 Stamina: 1 Salary: 2 Coins per turn Toad Comes with: Peach Attack: 1 Stamina: 1 Salary: 1 Coin per turn Advantages: When you land on a space with the opponent's mark on it, you won't have to pay any Coins. Bob-omb Comes with: Wario Attack: 1 Stamina: 1 Salary: 2 Coins per turn Disadvantages: When it attacks, it'll self-destruct after attacking. It also avoids your opponent's partners and attacks them directly. Boo Comes with: Yoshi Attack: 2 Stamina: 1 Salary: 3 Coins per turn Advantages: When attacked, the attacks go right through it, so it can't get hurt by attacks. Also, when an opponent's partner attacks, Boo will attack your opponent for the same amount of damage that they took from you. Disadvantages: When attacked, the attack will go right through Big Boo and hurt your character. Whomp Comes with: Donkey Kong Attack: 0 Stamina: 4 Salary: 3 Coins per turn Disadvantages: Since it has no attack power, it can't attack the opponent, but its high defense makes up for that. Snifit Comes with: Daisy Attack: 2 Stamina: 2 Salary: 5 Coins per turn Advantages: At the beginning of each turn, it'll give your character a few extra Coins. Piranha Plant Comes With: Waluigi Attack: 3 Stamina: 1 Salary: 5 Coins per turn Advantages: It sometimes makes an extra die appear, allowing you to roll to move even more spaces in one turn. Chomp Comes with: N/A Attack: 1 Stamina: 2 Salary: 6 Coins per turn Advantages: When it attacks, it attacks both the helper between it and the opponent, as well as the opponent, taking the same amount of power from each. Thwomp Comes with: N/A Attack: 0 Stamina: 2 Salary: 4 Coins per turn Advantages: This helper can defeat one of your opponent's helpers in one hit. Mr. Blizzard Comes with: N/A Attack: 1 Stamina: 3 Salary: 2 Coins per turn Advantages: This helper can attack the helper standing on the far side of your opponent, causing damage. Baby Bowser Comes with: N/A Attack: 1 Stamina: 1 Salary: 3 Coins per turn Advantages: Despite the amount of Attack Power he has, Baby Bowser takes several hearts from the opponent when he attacks. Basically, multiply the Attack Power by 3 and that'll be the number of hearts taken away. However, his attack has a 60% success rate of attack. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 10. 4-Player Mini-Games -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Aces High --------- Game Rules: Climb into a place with 2 types of missiles, then shoot down your rivals. Game Guy Mini-Games -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Throughout the different boards, you'll most likely land on a Game Guy Space sooner or later. When you do, Game Guy will appear and take all your Coins, then whisk you away to a randomly selected Game Guy mini-game, where you can either come back with more Coins than you started with, or none at all! It's the ultimate game of chance and luck! The four random mini-games are listed below for your convenience. Game Guy's Lucky 7 ------------------ In this mini-game, there are 7 steps; you advance up them according to the number you hit on the dice block. First Game Guy will go, then you will go afterward. The objective is to get to the highest step without falling off at the top, and to get higher than Game Guy. You have the option to hit the dice block a second time, but you should only do that if you're on a really low step. If you're still lower than Game Guy, you lose; end up on the same block as or higher than Game Guy, you win. Game Guy's Magic Boxes ---------------------- There are two chests; Toad sits inside one, and Baby Bowser in the other. The curtain will hide the chests as they move around, then you have to guess which chest Toad is in. If you get the one with Toad, you'll win 2x the amount of Coins you bet, then have the option to continue guessing (you can play this up to 3 times in one round) in hopes of winning more money. Game Guy's Roulette ------------------- You place a bet on which space the shell will stop at. If the shell stops where you placed your bet, you win however many Coins that space was worth (consult the list on the right side of the screen for more details). Of course, the smaller the space you bet on, the more Coins you'll win! Game Guy's Sweet Surprise ------------------------- Here, you'll see a large Bow-Wow and a small Bow-Wow sitting in front of 2 cakes. The objective here is to bet on which one will finish their cake first. The larger one almost always wins, although I've never seen it lose, so that's your best bet on winning here. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 17.
