After I noticed that there was no FAQ for Marsupilami on GameFAQs, I decided to write one. This FAQ will eventually contain all the information you need to beat the game. ############################################################################### 2) Version History ############################################################################### Version 0.1, 30th July 2005: Submitted the FAQ. ############################################################################### 3) Story (Taken from Instruction Manual) ############################################################################### Some months ago, Marsupilami and his pal Bonelli, the elephant, were happily playing in their jungle home when suddenly someone turned out the lights. Unknown to them the notorious hunter Bring M. Backalive had been stalking them for days, waiting for an opportunity to pounce. This mercenary fellow had been touring the jungle, looking for interesting animals to sell to his friend the circus owner, and had decided that Marsu and Bonelli fitted the bill nicely. When Marsupilami and Bonelli awoke some time later, they realised that they were trapped in cages along with many other miserable looking animals. Over the following months Marsu and Bonelli were forced to tour the globe with the circus, giving twice daily performances. Most of the time they had no idea where they were. The work was gruelling, the food was poor, and Marsupilami was increasingly homesick for his wife and three small children. He decided that by hook or by crook, he and Bonelli would escape and find their way home. At last an opportunity presented itself. The lazy animal trainer had fallen asleep at the food table, leaving the keys to the animals' cages beside him. Marsupilami made use of his long tail to hook the keys off the table and into his hands. Quickly he released himself and his friend Bonelii, and was about to leave when he decided to open all the other cages too - hopefully in the ensuing chaos he and Bonelli would be assured of an easy getaway! In his task as self-appointed saviour of the lumbering Bonelli, Marsupilami must guide his unwitting friend through hazardous terrain in the journey from the circus to their beloved jungle home. Bonelli, of course, has absolutely no idea where they are going, and it is up to Marsupilami to find the way home and ensure Bonelli gets there in one piece. The player will have direct control of Marsupilami (and his amazing multi-purpose tail!), who must fend off enemies, negotiate obstacles and make sure Bonelli completes the journey safely. Bonelli, however, is not under direct player control and is simply influenced by the actions of his small friend. ############################################################################### 4) Game Overview ############################################################################### ******************************************************************************* A. Tail Selection ******************************************************************************* During the adventure, you will pick up various icons. These icons will give Marsu the knowledge of particular uses of his amazing tail. When an icon is picked up, it appears in the tail option bar at the top of the screen. To select a particular tail option, press the Start Button to pause the game. One of the icon boxes will be flashing, this is the currently selected tail action. To change your selection, press left/right on the +Control Pad. When the chosen action is flashing, press the Start Button to return to the Overworld Screen. When the C Button is then pressed, Marsu will perform your chosen tail action. If you have a six button Control Pad for your Mega Drive/Genesis, pressing the X Button will move the highlighted box to the left and the Z Button will move it to the right. With a six button Control Pad you do not have to pause the game to select a tail action. The tail actions available in the game are as follows: 1. Steps ----- When this is used, Marsu's tail changes automatically into a set of steps, allowing Bonelli to reach platforms onto which he is normally unable to climb. 2. Mouse ----- When activated, this turns Marsu's tail into the head of a mouse. Bonelli is terrified of mice. If he sees this, he will panic and charge in the opposite direction, allowing nothing to get in his way! Bonelli can smash his way through objects such as rocks, crates, gates, etc. 3. Winch ----- The winch is used to get Bonelli to platforms which even steps will not get him up to. You are only able to winch Bonelli up when he is sitting down. To get the winch working, lay a piece of fruit down where you wish to winch him up from. Bonelli will stop to eat the fruit. Marsu must then jump onto the platform above Bonelli and, when facing him, press the C Button to activate the winch. Bonelli will then grab hold of Marsu's tail and haul himself up onto the platform. 4. Pole Vault ---------- The pole vault is used to get Marsu over really large gaps that he cannot otherwise cross. To use the pole vault, go near to the edge of the gap you wish to cross, and activate the tail. If you are in the correct place, Marsu will be flung over the gap and will be able to continue the adventure. 5. Parachute --------- The parachute allows Marsu to glide to the left or right when jumping off tall platforms. It lets him glide out to tail icons and other objects that can't be reached with a normal jump. 6. Hammer ------ There are some objects throughout the game that obstruct Bonelli's path and cannot be passed even when using the mouse icon. To dispose of these objects, collect the hammer icon and, when standing next to the object you wish to remove, actvate it. It will subsequently be smashed to pieces! 7. Shield ------ When activated, this effectively creates an "umbrella" under which Marsu and Bonelli are safe from falling objects such as rocks. The shield can also be used as a bridge for Bonelli. When Marsu stands near a gap, the shield effect can bridge it. 8. Lever ----- This is used to dislodge large objects. For example, when a big rock is moved from above a seesaw, a catapult effect occurs. To activate it, press the C Button when standing next to the item you wish to move. 9. Fruit ----- To help Marsu control Bonelli there are various types of fruit scattered throughout the level. As well as giving Marsu extra points, the fruit can also be used to stop Bonelli for a few seconds while you prepare the next part of Bonelli's journey. To drop the fruit, press down on the +Control Pad and the A Button at the same time. 10. Combat ------ Marsu's main defence is using his tail as a fist. To 'punch' an opponent, press the A Button and Marsu will punch out in that direction. Some enemies take more than one punch to be defeated and others have to be hit from behind to be beaten. 11. Bridge ------ There are certain places in the game where Marsu can use his tail as a bridge for Bonelli. If there is a gap with a short post next to it, punch out using the A Button. Marsu will automatically grab onto the post, thus forming a bridge. To let go of the post, release the A Button. ******************************************************************************* C. Pickups & Powerups ******************************************************************************* 1. Hearts ------ These replenish Marsu's energy. 2. Alarm Clock ----------- When picked up, this will give you an extra 30 seconds to complete the level. 3. Yellow Stars ------------ These replenish Marsu's energy. 4. Tignass ------- Marsu's great friend and helper Tignass, the humming bird, has followed Bring M. Backalive and, now Marsu has escaped, is there to help Marsu and Bonelli get back to their jungle home. As you play the game (in Easy and Medium mode only), Tignass will periodically fly by with advice as to which tail icon you should be using next to get Bonelli past the next obstacle. ******************************************************************************* D. Hints & Tips ******************************************************************************* - If you are stuck for what you should do next, then look out for Tignass. His advice will always help you. - Use your fruit sparingly. Once it is all used up, you will not be able to pause Bonelli's progress when you need it most. - Look out for the bonuses hidden around the level. That extra time and energy can come in very, very handy! - When the stage timer reaches zero, the time will be over and you'll lose a life. Try to get through the stage quickly to avoid this. - If Bonelli is walking too slowly for you, use the Mouse icon to scare him into running in the direction you are going. - Make sure to dispense with the enemies in the stage first. If they attack Bonelli, he will start walking in the opposite direction. ############################################################################### 5) Walkthrough ############################################################################### NOTE- To fully complete the game, you must find Marsu's three children. When entering a particular stage, a cage containing one of the children will be shown on the intro screen. This means that one of the children is located somewhere on that stage. If you rescue Marsu's three children and successfully complete the game, you'll get the good ending. ******************************************************************************* A. The Circus - Stage 1 ******************************************************************************* Grab the Steps icon nearby and drop fruit on the platform above Bonelli. Use the Steps to allow Bonelli to climb up. While he eats the fruit, use the Steps again. When Bonelli finishes eating, he will climb up the steps. Take out the Circus Lion Tamer. Use the fruit/steps method again to help Bonelli get past the cages. Grab the Mouse icon and deal with the Circus Lion Tamer. Use the Mouse to scare Bonelli. He will run past the brown pole and cause the Winch icon to fall from above. Dispose of the Lion Tamer and drop some fruit. While Bonelli eats it, use the Winch to haul him onto the platform. Dispose of the Circus Lion Tamer and drop fruit on the ground and on the platform above. Use the Winch icon and the Steps icon to get Bonelli onto the platform with a barrel of water on it. Bonelli will drink the water and walk off the platforms. When he approaches the ring of fire, jump onto Bonelli and he'll put out the fire with the water. Go past the boy to complete the stage. ******************************************************************************* B. The Circus - Stage 2 ******************************************************************************* After defeating the Juggling Clown, jump onto Bonelli to avoid the small balls. Grab the Steps icon and the Pole Vault icon. Use the Steps icon to get Bonelli past the platforms. Deal with the Clown while avoiding his custard pies. When Bonelli walks into a hole, drop a fruit on the left side of the seesaw. While Bonelli is eating, jump onto the right side and he'll be catapulted up to the platform above. Grab the Mouse icon near the barrel of water. Use it to scare Bonelli and he'll cause a plank to fall onto the barrel. Use the Steps icon to get Bonelli past the barrel. Take out the Clowns and jump onto the "POP!" glass container. Rescue Marsu's child before pushing the container to the left. Jump onto the container again and hold down the A Button to create a bridge for Bonelli to cross. After Bonelli crosses the bridge, release the A Button and go past the girl to complete the stage. ******************************************************************************* C. The Circus - Stage 3 ******************************************************************************* Grab the Steps icon on the highest platform and use it to get Bonelli past the platform on the ground. You can use the trampoline to take some fruit nearby. You'll have to defeat the Seals to progress. They can throw balls at you. Jump up to dodge them. After defeating the two Seals, use the Steps icon to help Bonelli. ############################################################################### 6) The Bonus Levels ############################################################################### ******************************************************************************* A. River Clean Up ******************************************************************************* Rubbish has been dumped in the river, and Marsu cannot stand to see pollution wherever it may be. Therefore, Marsu must swim through the water (using the +Control Pad to manoeuvre him Left, Right, Up and Down) and collect each piece of rubbish one by one (by touching it with the end of his tail), then swim back to the surface with it. When Marsu reaches the surface, the object will automatically disappear. This bonus game ends when all the rubbish has been removed, when the timer reaches zero or Marsu runs out of energy. ******************************************************************************* B. Battle Of The Marsus ******************************************************************************* Marsu's rival, Mars Le Noir, in his constant quest to become the greatest Marsu ever, follows Marsu and Bonelli through the whole adventure and challenges Marsu to a fight for glory. Marsu must dodge Mars Le Noir's attacks while trying to punch him back. The first Marsu to lose all his energy is declared the loser. ############################################################################### 7) Game Lists ############################################################################### ******************************************************************************* A.
