Legal Crap & Contact Info & Credits --- 2. What is this game? +Intro Kingyo Chuuihou! Tobidase! Game Gakuen is a Japan game released by Jaelco in 1994, for the Super Famicom (no SNES). The game is based on the anime Kingyo Chuuihou! Tobidase! (or Goldfish Warning), which had a lot of nonsensical humor and is mainly aimed for kiddies. Anyway, back to the game, it's a party game consisting of LOTS of different minigames, and is really really fun. I would recommend playing this game, either against the computer(s), or against your two other friends (the game can hold 3 players max). Alright, here's a rule: NO ROM BEGGING. You should be smart enough to find it yourself. --- 3. Menus Buttons: A - Choose (goes to next menu) B - Cancel (goes to previous menu) At the first menu, you get three choices. If you don't have three controllers connected to the console, the third option will be left out. In this menu you'll have to choose how many human players there are: one, two, or three (if you have 3). Then there's the second menu where you choose your characters. Unless you are playing a 3 players game, player 1 is responsible for choosing the computer opponents. As far as I know, all the characters are the same. But if he/she/it was chosen as a computer opponent, they'll have some style of play that kinda makes them stand out. Anyway, after choosing all 3 characters, you get two choices. The first one (A) is to go through 3 years of school, which will last for some time. The second one (B) is playing an individual game with your friends (kinda like a practice mode). After the first choice (A), you get a menu with 4 options. Basically you choose on how many minigames to play each semester (there are THREE semesters a year, mind you), from three to six. After the second choice (B), you get a big table on the left, and a small table on the right. First you choose a subject on the big table. After you chose a subject, the cursor will move to the table on the right, where you choose the year for that particular subject. However, not all subjects require you to choose a year. Read the 'Games' section for each individual game. --- 4. Characters As far as I know, all characters have the same attribute. There are six selectable characters: Appearances: Wapiko - Pink hair, standard Japanese female student clothes Aoi - Blonde male, green jacket Chitose - Blonde female, pink dress Shuuichi - Dark hair, standard Japanese male student clothes Tamiko - Brown hair, blue vest with female student clothes Bad Cow (translated) - Uhhh a cow with a scar on its face AI traits: AI traits means that this character, if used by the computer, has certain traits that'll make them good or bad at something. Wapiko: No certain trait, sometimes she just stands there and does nothing. Aoi: Good at English subjects (mostly quizzes). Chitose: No idea... Shuuichi: Good at Math subjects (mostly quizzes). Tamiko: Good at Art. Bad Cow: Good at Sports, makes random guesses at quizzes. Other trivial characters that's in the game: E.T. Principle: The Principle of the school. Appears in some quizzes and the graduation ceremony. Has two antennas on his head. E.T. Policeman: A policeman with two ehh antennas on his head. Appears in 3rd year Social game as well as the graduation ceremony. E.T. Science guy: A guy with two antennas on his head. Appears in all Science games to give instructions, and the graduation ceremony. Female teacher: Pink shirt. She appears in 1st year Social and 3rd semester Misc games. Male teacher: Wears a suit with glasses. Only appears in 2nd year Math. Classroom teacher: Wears a suit with glasses. Appears between games in the classroom to announce scores and stuff. Gyopi: Flying pink goldfish! Tanakayama: Wears a suit with glasses. He is sent as a 'spy' by the rival school to destroy this school. Appears on 3rd year Sports. Additional note: Chitose is the school board president and student president. --- 5. Games First, all games give you points. By the end of each semester (there are 3 each year), you get a 'grade report' where the classroom teacher announces your total point. After that, you'll be on vacation, where you get to choose from 3 cards. The one with the highest score (total so far) will get to choose first, the second highest gets the second, and the third highest gets the leftover card. Then by score order the card will be flipped, and you can get bonus points, or lose certain points. The most you can go is 100 for each side. Sometimes you don't get bonus points nor lose points. After the vacation, the one with the lowest score (total so far) will get the goldfish. Then he/she/it can get to choose a subject. The choosing subject dialogue is a roulette. Press A to stop it from rolling and you'll choose a subject. After choosing the subject you'll play a minigame. What the goldfish does, is that it'll double the score gained from the game if that character wins. It won't change sides until the semester ends, and once a new semester starts the goldfish will fly to the player with the lowest total score so far. Here are the games: -- 1st year: Chinese: Quiz If you can't read Japanese, the fun of the random choice is here! There are 4 possible answers for each question. If your AI opponents are 'dumb' they'll answer as fast as they could, and usually they'll get the wrong answer. Then you'll probably be left with a 50/50 chance. You can answer BEFORE the first answer appears, but that would be kinda weird. Each question is worth 20 points, and if you have a wrong answer you'll lose 10 points (no points lost if you are at zero). Remember that the 10th question (last question) is worth 50 points. In addition, remember that you can STILL choose an answer that somebody had wrong (e.g. Bad Cow chose B, and you can choose B after him). Math: Puzzle A puzzle/Tetris game. This is easy if you're used with puzzle games like Puzzle Fighter from Capcom. Remember that if the blocks reach the top you're bai bai. Two or more blocks of the same shape, when put together, will be cancelled. Press the A button to switch the blocks when they're falling down, and hold down to have it drop faster. If you (or your opponent) executed a combo (cancelling one type of block after another), then your opponent will get an animal block. If you performed a 2 hits combo they'll get one animal block, 3 hits with 2 blocks, and so on. Animal blocks can't be cancelled unless something next (but not under it) to it are cancelled. One cancel with two blocks is 2 points, and further cancelling depends on the number of blocks involved. Animal block cancels give you no points. Winner is decided when somebody reaches 100 points first. Science: Shooting A vertical shooter. Press A to shoot. Hit the viruses, and don't get hit, or you'll lose 5 points. I think a virus is worth 3 points. The game ends when the timer reaches zero. Social: Quiz If you can't read Japanese, the fun of random is for you! The same format as 1st year Chinese. English: Puzzle A puzzle/Tetris game. Match the capital letters with the small letters and they'll cancel. Same format as 1st year Math. Sports: Short Race Race to the finish by mashing A and B (or X and Y) alternatively. There are various 'checkpoints' which gives you points. The first one to reach a checkpoint gets 20, the second 10, and the third 5. Same for the finishing line. Arts: Pic building The basic concept is to have the pieces built together to form a picture. You'll start with 4 empty blocks this year. Go down to the bottom table, press A (or Y) to grab a picture (the picture will be highlighted) and then walk back to your picture, press A to put it down again. If you put it at the right place, you'll hear a cheer from your character and you get 5 points and you can't take it away again. if you had it at the wrong spot, press A to remove it. You can only put a piece in your area. When you're done, you'll automatically walk back to where you started, and your score is the base score + the time left on the timer. Remember that you can get to, say the right side, by holding left and go into the curtains. And vice versa. The pieces are usually ordered a bit at the bottom. Start with the one closest to you, then move on to the next one, and so on. -- 2nd year: Chinese: Puzzle This one is hard. It really helps if you're adept at Chinese, because you'll kinda need your Chinese knowledge to survive. Basically you'll have to put two antonyms together and they'll cancel each other out. If you can't read Chinese, try to put two characters of the same color BUT with different looks. The same format as 1st year Math. Math: Quiz This is a bit easier since some questions give you numbers as answers. Try thinking of the relationships between the number provided in the questions and relate it to the answers (if these question has numbers in it). Otherwise, make random guesses. Same format as 1st year Chinese. Science: RPG! This is fun. First you choose 3 foods, then they'll calculate the stats for your character. The top one is Attack (damage dealt to enemy), second one is Speed (determines character's order in the party), third one is Evade (chance of evading an enemy's attack), fourth one is Defense (anti-proportional to damage dealt from the enemy), and the last one is the total HP. In the battle choose an enemy by pressing A, B, or Y. Then you'll attack the enemy (depending on the order) and then the enemy will attack you. This game ends when the enemies are all killed (or the other way around, but it's rare). You get 40 points for killing an enemy, and the one with the highest HP at the end gets 40 points as well. My advice is to get chocolate (usually hidden in the question marks) first because it's a great boost of Attack and HP, which'll help you get more points. Social: Search You'll start in a field of bricks. At the top right corner a flag will show up, and you'll have to look for an identical flag in the field by pressing A when facing at a certain direction. If you have photographic memory you shouldn't have much problem. Getting a right flag gives you 20 points. The game ends when timer reaches zero. English: Shooting A more advanced shooting game but with the same basic concept. Shoot at the guy, and when he spreads out his HELLO attack attack the alphabets. Then grab the kanji characters they created. A kanji letter has 3 points, and if you get hit by the cats' projectile, you'll lose 5 points. Just try to get the kanji characters, because they're the ones which'll give you points. Only shooting at the English characters will not give you points. When the timer reaches zero, the game ends. Sports: Penalty Kick One player will be kicking the ball, and the other two players, one front and one behind, will be trying to stop the ball from hitting the net. After 3 tries, the players will switch places. First goal is 20, second goal is 40, and third goal is 60. Saving the ball would not give you points. Kickers press forward, right or left with A, and 'savers' can stay neutral, or hold left or right. If the ball is deflected and hits the guitar guy, the cat will punch him. No points though. Arts: Pic building Basically the same as 1st year Arts, but this time you get to deal with moving pictures. You start with 3 pictures. -- Year 3 Chinese: Quiz See 1st year Chinese. Math: Puzzle Have two blocks add to 10 and it'll cancel. You cannot use three or more blocks to add up to 10, it MUST be two blocks. Kinda hard. Same format as 1st year Math. Science: Shooting Shoot the aliens! An alien is worth 3 points. After killing a bunch of aliens, you get to face the boss. Beating the boss gives you points, I believe about 10-15 points. Social: Save the World You control a satellite, and at the upper right corner is a screen showing where the monster appears. In the rotating globe the monster's location is showed as a blinking red dot and you'll have to shoot at that dot. A successful hit will get you 20 or 30 points. Getting hit by the monster's beam only stuns you, it takes no point off you. The game ends when the timer reaches zero. English: Search This is hard as well. You'll start in a field of ice and you'll have to look for the missing letter that would make a complete word. Each correct answer will give you 20 points. Some of the questions are tricky, like _AT where you'll have to replace _ with an alphabet. There's a lot of choices, but they only accept one. Sports: Bomb Arena You'll start in an arena with bombs. The goal is to 'move' the bomb and kill other players with it. By standing at a certain direction, you'll have the bomb slide that way when you press A when the bomb's near you. Every player starts with 5 hearts, and the first two to reach zero loses, or when the timer reaches zero. A successful hit (by you) will give 10 points, and when you're the only player standing, you'll get points from the timer as well. Tanakayama will provide the bombs by teleporting into the field. Arts: Pic building This one looks hard, but really it isn't. However, you start with moving pictures, with zero pieces for you to start with. Basically the same as 1st year Arts. The pieces located at the bottom follow some sort of order. *hint hint* -- Misc. There is also a Misc subject where it changes every semester. So you have 3 Misc subjects in a year. 1st Semester: Beach This one is really really fun. First your character starts on a beach, and then you pick up trash (by pressing A) along with other things that came with the wave to gain points. Usually trash gives you 10 points, and other things (except beach balls) gives you 20. If you got 'hit' by the wave you'll lose 30 points. In addition to picking up trash and other stuff, you can pick up a beach ball. To throw it at a certain direction, hold that direction and press A. Then your character will hurl the ball at that direction. If the ball hits a player, he/she/it loses 10 points. To avoid being hit by a beach ball, press and hold A to evade. 2nd Semester: Hurdles Basically it's 1st year Sports with cats replacing the checkpoints. This time around, you'll have to jump over the cats by pressing any direction. If you have a successful jump you'll get 20 points. At the end of the race, winner gets 20, second gets 10, and last gets 5. My suggestion is to jump before you reach the cat. Your characters can jump pretty far, so that's not a real problem. 3rd Semester: Concert The female teacher will play a piano and hint on which button she wants you to press. The first one to react with the right button gets 5 points, and after the first one, 2 points. If you didn't react you won't lose any points, but you'll get a 'oops' look from your character. If you had the wrong button pressed, you'll get 2 points off. The key is to do a bit of guessing - there's some pattern to the buttons. And yes, pressing a random button helps more than not pressing any at all. -- Graduation At the end of the last (3rd year), there will be a Graduation Ceremony held by the E.T. Principle. Usually he'll hand out awards that are worth 300 to 500 points. Sometimes there are no awards. I think it's random. The game ends after the Graduation Ceremony. The one with the highest score wins the game and a diploma is shown. --- 6. Update history v0.1: Wrote the FAQ --- 7.
